RHP Cory Gearrin did an admirable job filling in for injured RHP Sergio Romo on Friday night, pitching the Giants out of an eighth-inning jam and protecting a late lead against the Colorado Rockies. He struck out Rockies 1B Mark Reynolds, who had singled in all three previous trips to the plate, and got LF Ryan Raburn to ground out to strand the potential tying run on the bases. Gearrin has allowed just seven hits in 38 at-bats (.184) against right-handers this season.

Tue Sep 8 201519:00Gearrin called up by Giants on Tuesday
Gearrin was called up by the Giants on Tuesday, Chris Haft of MLB.com reports.
A Tommy John survivor, Gearrin turned in a 2.72 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 46:14 K:BB in 43 innings with Triple-A Sacramento after inking a minor league deal with the Giants in the offseason. The right-hander will look to recoup more value over the final month of the season before hitting the open market again, though he isn't likely to be entrusted with many high-leverage innings.
Tue Mar 17 201512:46Gearrin (elbow) reassigned to minor league camp Tuesday
Gearrin (elbow) was reassigned to minor league camp Tuesday, CSN Bay Area's Amy Gutierrez reports.
He continues to rehab from Tommy John surgery that was performed last April, and it would make sense for Gearrin to spend most, if not all of 2015 pitching in the minor leagues.

Gearrin (elbow) signed a minor league contract with the Giants on Friday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
A fourth-round pick in 2007, Gearrin flashed brilliance during his time with Atlanta, but shoulder issues derailed his 2013 season and he missed all of 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. His rehabilitation figures to push at least into May, but the possible reward was worth the minimal risk for San Francisco.
Tue Nov 11 201418:28Gearrin (elbow) released by Braves on Tuesday
Gearrin (elbow) was released by the Braves on Tuesday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Shoulder issues plagued Gearrin's 2013 campaign, and he missed all of 2014 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in early April. Apparently, the Braves decided they couldn't afford to wait for the right-hander to get healthy, and Gearrin will likely have to prove himself before another club thinks about extending him a serious offer.
Wed Nov 5 201416:54Gearrin (elbow) activated from 60-day DL
Gearrin (elbow) has been activated from the 60-day DL.
There's a very good chance Gearrin ends up back on the DL to open 2015, but the Braves had to activated him with the 60-day luxury not afforded in the offseason. Gearrin underwent Tommy John surgery in early April, after battling shoulder tendinitis throughout 2013.
Tue Apr 8 201416:33Cory Gearrin to undergo Tommy John surgery
Cory Gearrin will undergo Tommy John elbow surgery.
The right-hander made the decision Tuesday after getting a second opinion on the partial ligament tear in his right elbow. He's already on the 60-day disabled list and will be sidelined through early 2015.

Fri Apr 4 201408:33Cory Gearrin moved to 60-day DL
Braves transferred RHP Cory Gearrin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move was made to clear room on the 40-man roster for Pedro Beato. Gearrin's injury has been described as a sprained elbow, but there's a good chance he'll wind up having Tommy John surgery. Even in a best-case scenario, the Braves obviously won't have him for a couple months.

Sat Mar 29 201411:20Cory Gearrin has ligament damage
Braves placed RHP Cory Gearrin on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Braves general manager Frank Wren said Saturday that Cory Gearrin's elbow injury has shown "ligament involvement." Of course, Wren used the same terminology when talking about Kris Medlen, who required Tommy John surgery this spring. Gearrin will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews next week, but it sounds like he could be headed for season-ending surgery.

Gearrin left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game with elbow pain, and he's since been diagnosed with with a sprained right elbow. He'll be further evaluated by team doctors in Atlanta, but it's highly likely that he'll be placed on the disabled list to start the year. The 27-year-old reliever had a 3.77 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 31 innings of work last season.

Thu Mar 13 201416:37Cory Gearrin gives up six runs to Cards
Cory Gearrin was charged with six runs -- five earned -- in just one-third of an inning of relief Thursday against the Cardinals.
This may undo a lot of the good work he's done this spring; he had allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Gearrin spent the first half of last year in the majors and was very successful in April and May (5 R in 25 IP) before wearing down, getting demoted and then going on the minor league DL with shoulder tendinitis. Gearrin is out of options, and if he's healthy, he'd be worthy of a spot in some team's bullpen. The Braves, though, have nice depth with or without him.

Mon Mar 11 201315:57Cody Gearrin strikes out side for Braves
Cody Gearrin struck out the side in his scoreless inning Monday against the Nationals.
On another team, Gearrin likely would have emerged as a bullpen fixture last year and wouldn't have anything to worry about this spring. On the Braves, he's still fighting to make the team, even though he's been quite impressive in throwing six scoreless innings and striking out nine this spring. It could come down to whether the Braves want to keep Anthony Varvaro, who, unlike Gearrin, is out of options.

Fri Aug 17 201215:08Cory Gearrin optioned
Braves optioned RHP Cory Gearrin to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Gearrin has been terrific in his short time with the Braves this season, posting a 0.79 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while striking out 11 over 11 1/3 innings, but the team needed to clear a roster spot for Tommy Hanson, and the 26-year-old is the odd man out. He should be back next month.
