Tue Dec 3 201319:39Wil Nieves to sign with Phillies
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Phillies will sign Wil Nieves.
No word on whether it's a major or minor league deal. Nieves has batted a surprising .299/.323/.381 over the last two seasons for the Rockies and D'Backs, but he's a career .242/.283/.314 hitter whose value lies with his glove. Nieves figures to compete with Erik Kratz for the Phillies' backup catcher job behind Carlos Ruiz.

Mon Aug 6 201215:53Diamonbacks sign C Wil Nieves
Diamonbacks signed C Wil Nieves.
No word yet on the financials, but we suspect Nieves will make the veteran's minimum until the end of the season. This is a situation of good timing for both player and organization. The Rockies designated Nieves for assignment earlier this month and Nieves cleverly elected free agency instead of a demotion to Triple-A. With Henry Blanco headed to the disabled list (presumably), Arizona desperately needed a veteran backup on short notice. Nieves carries no fantasy value.

The Rockies designated Nieves for assignment earlier this month after he batted .298 (14-for-47) with a home run and five RBI in 16 games. Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports that the Diamondbacks are set to sign the .226 career hitter. With Henry Blanco (hand) likely headed to the disabled list, Nieves would back up Miguel Montero.

Wed Aug 1 201213:49Rockies designate C Nieves for assignment
Rockies activated C Wil Nieves from the 15-day disabled list; designated him for assignment.
Nieves batted .298 (14-for-47) with a home run and five RBI in 16 games with the Rockies this season prior to hitting the disabled list in the early part of July with turf toe. He's just a .226 hitter in the big leagues, but could draw interest from a catching-starved team.

Fri Jul 20 201219:35Nieves to start rehab assignment on Monday
Wil Nieves (toe) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday.
With the rumors swirling around that Ramon Hernandez may soon be traded, Nieves would likely assume the backup catcher's role behind Wilin Rosario once he is healthy enough to return. He'll return to an uninspiring .221/.268/.289 line through his first 47 at-bats.

Wed Jun 15 201113:45Brewers sent C Nieves outright to minors
Brewers sent C Wil Nieves outright to Triple-A Nashville.
It's surprising he managed to stick around this long. Nieves was batting just .140 with two doubles over his first 50 at-bats with the Brewers. George Kottaras will take his place on the active roster.

Fri Apr 1 201109:07Nieves draws start over Kotteras
Wil Nieves drew the Opening Day start at catcher over George Kotteras.
"It wasn't flipping a coin," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke assured. "Just watching (Nieves) in spring training, catching, and trying to figure out when I was going to catch George." The manager added that "how they do is going to dictate how much they play." Jonathan Lucroy (finger) isn't expected to be out long, and neither Nieves nor Kotteras is worth a short-term play while they're in a timeshare.

Fri Dec 10 201012:45Brewers finalize contract with Wil Nieves
Brewers signed C Wil Nieves to a one-year, $775,000 contract.
Nieves passed his physical Friday and officially inked the new deal. He batted just .203/.244/.310 with three homers and 16 RBI over 158 at-bats this past year for the Nationals, but he's the Brewers' No. 2 catcher as of right now. Obviously that won't afford him much in the way of fantasy value.
