Joe Thatcher (shoulder) threw off a mound in extended spring training Sunday.

The left-hander has been battling discomfort since the Catcus League schedule began and now looks unlikely to be ready for the start of the regular season. Padres manager Bud Black admitted Tuesday that it's "getting close" as to whether Joe Thatcher (shoulder) will be ready to start the season on time.
Thatcher has been sidelined for the duration of the exhibition schedule due to shoudler soreness. While he has been doing some long-tossing and is scheduled to throw on the side later this week, there's no timetable for him to get into a game. The Padres won't rule Thatcher out yet, but he has to make some strides rather quickly here.
