Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez holds a 2.25 ERA with 20 strikeouts over 12 innings for Double-A Reading since being moved to the bullpen.
He's been clocked as high as 97 mph. Gonzalez is still throwing all four of his pitches in relief and eventually could be moved back into the rotation, but for now the Phillies will stick with what's working. "Right now he is doing what he needs to do," said director of player development Joe Jordan. "Long-term, he can end up in the rotation." Gonzalez could get a cup of coffee with the Phils in September.

Phillies transferred RHP Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Gonzalez has been bothered by shoulder soreness this spring and can now be ruled out as an option for Philadelphia's rotaiton until late May. The signing looks like a dud early on.

Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez gave up four runs in an inning Friday against the Orioles.
This should clinch it: Gonzalez won't be Cole Hamels' early-season replacement in the Phillies rotation. He allowed four hits and walked two today, and he's yet to show much in the way of command to go along with his 88-91 mph fastball.

Sat Mar 1 201416:01Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez walks four in debut
Making his spring debut, Cuban defector Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez gave up a run and walked four in 1 2/3 innings against the Yankees on Saturday.
Gonzalez hit 92-93 mph on the gun on his first few fastballs, but then quickly faded to 89-91 mph from there. His control was also problematic, but it's no surprise he had some rust to shake there after essentially two years off. At least his mid-70s curve looked like a weapon. Most likely, Gonzalez is going to start the year in Triple-A.
