Amarista is doing his best to earn an Opening Day roster spot by batting .349 with two homers, 13 RBI and a .992 OPS this spring. He still may get squeezed out, though, if the Halos only carry Maicer Izturis as a utility infielder.

Amarista, 22, is 7-for-48 (.146) with two doubles, a triple and four RBI in two stints with the Angels this season. He likely won't get much playing time down the stretch, but is capable of playing the outfield and both middle infield positions.

Angels purchased the contract of INF Alexi Amarista from Triple-A Salt Lake.
He'll give the Angels another option for their infield while Maicer Izturis is on the mend from a hamstring injury. Amarista, 22, was batting .455 with two homers and 16 RBI over his first 61 plate appearances with the Bees this season. He has a .325 batting average over parts of five seasons in the minor leagues.
