Amarista slugged his fourth home run of the year Tuesday, while going 3-for-4 at the plate and adding a double, two RBI and a run scored.
Amarista has been heating up recently, as he is 9-for-25 in his last seven games. Still, Amarista owns just a .242/.292/.313 slash line in 380 at-bats this year.

Amarista provided half of the Padres hits on Friday against Josh Collmenter and the Diamondbacks, as he went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
It looks like the Padres hitters took the night off in this one, although Amarista did his part getting on base while scoring on a Miguel Montero pass ball in the ninth inning. Amarista has been hovering around the .230 mark for most of the season, so don't expect a sudden uptick in hitting stats anytime soon.
Wed Aug 13 201416:10Amarista out of lineup Wednesday against Rockies
Amarista is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Amarista will take a seat after starting three straight, giving way to Yangervis Solarte, who will make his second career start at shortstop. Chris Nelson will slide over to third base to cover Solarte's regular position. With the Padres set to square off against lefty Tyler Matzek on Wednesday, manager Bud Black likely wanted to get another right-handed bat in his lineup.
Fri Jul 4 201421:55Amarista homers in victory over Giants
Alexi Amarista blasted his third home run of the season in Friday's victory over the Giants.
Amarista tagged Matt Cain with the solo shot to get the Padres on the board in the third inning, and it proved to be more than enough run support for Eric Stults. He finished the day 2-for-2 with a double and walk, raising his season slash to .228/.280/.323.

Wed Jun 25 201401:32Amarista has three hits and three RBI in win
Alexi Amarista went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI Tuesday against the Giants.
San Diego has been thrilled with Amarista's defense with Jedd Gyorko (foot) on the disabled list, but the diminutive Venezuelan is best relegated to utility duties due to his weak stick. This was his first three-hit game of the season, and half of his 12 RBI through 65 games have come in just two contests. Amarista, batting .221/.278/.297, is no better than an emergency stopgap NL-only player until Gyorko's return.

Sun Apr 6 201416:21Amarista's three-run shot leads Padres to win
Alexi Amarista hit a three-run, pinch-hit home run in the Padres' 4-2 win over the Marlins on Sunday.
Amarista had just 10 home runs in 700 career at-bats before the pinch-hit blast in the seventh inning. It was a good time for his first hit of the season. Despite the heroics, Amarista is just a part-time player and isn't a factor in fantasy leagues.

Mon Mar 3 201418:10Amarista homers Monday vs. the Giants
Alexi Amarista went 1-for-3 with a solo home run Monday against the Giants.
Amarista started at second base and is competing for a spot on the Padres' bench. However, he could wind up filling in for Chase Headley at third base if Headley continues to be bothered by a strained right calf.

Sun Mar 2 201417:56Alexi Amarista plates one in draw vs. Dodgers
Alexi Amarista went 1-for-3 with an RBI as the Padres and Dodgers played to a 3-3 tie in Cactus League action on Sunday.
Amarista got the start at second base and hit leadoff in manager Bud Black's lineup. He's a favorite to earn a bench spot on the Padres Opening Day roster, and could be pressed into full-time duty if Chase Headley isn't ready for the start of the season.

Sat Jan 18 201411:13Amarista has leg up on bench role with Padres
Bill Center of the San Diego Union Tribune believes that Alexi Amarista has a leg up in the battle for one of the Padres final bench spots due to the fact that he's out of options.
His primary competition for the final bench spot could come down to Ryan Jackson or Tommy Medica, both of whom have minor league options remaining. The 24-year-old also has the versatility to play all three outfield positions and both middle infield spots, making him a very valuable commodity in the National League.

Thu Sep 26 201322:11Alexi Amarista delivers game-winner
Alexi Amarista delivered a game-winning hit in the bottom of the 11th as the Padres edged the Diamondbacks 3-2 on Thursday.
It was Amarista's lone hit in five at-bats. The versatile utilityman was making his sixth start at shortstop tonight. He's also started 52 games in center, 16 at second, five game in left and two at third base. With 357 at-bats, he's played more than the Padres would prefer this year. Still, he's a handy guy to have around.

Wed Jul 10 201301:20Alexi Amarista knocks in two runs
Alexi Amarista tripled and singled to drive in both Padres runs in the win over the Rockies on Tuesday.
Amarista also had a big game Sunday, going 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI. He was in quite a slump for five weeks, but maybe he's pulled out of it now. He remains the Padres' preferred option in center with Cameron Maybin absent.

Mon Jul 1 201322:36Alexi Amarista struggles for Padres
After hitting .232 with just two walks in 56 at-bats last month, Alexi Amarista opened July by going 0-for-3 on Monday.
Amarista has still been pretty solid against righties on the season and he brings a lot of versatility to the table, making him a pretty useful player for the Padres. Still, it would be for the best if they didn't have to use him quite as often as they've needed to with Cameron Maybin out. It's possible they'll start giving Will Venable and Chris Denorfia more looks in center, with Kyle Blanks in right, after Yonder Alonso returns.

Wed May 15 201316:05Alexi Amarista homers, doubles twice in win
Alexi Amarista homered, doubled twice and scored three times Wednesday in the Padres' 8-4 win over the Orioles.
Amarista has homered in back-to-back starts. He has surprising pop for a little guy, with eight homers, six triples and 25 doubles in 404 major league at-bats. Unfortunately, he still hasn't managed to reach base consistently. The Padres will keep using him as a backup at second base and in center field, leaving him little fantasy value.

Wed Apr 17 201301:32Alexi Amarista knocks in four runs
Alexi Amarista singled three times and drove in four runs versus the Dodgers on Tuesday.
Amarista is supposed to head back to the bench Wednesday with Chase Headley coming off the DL, but he made his case for additional playing time tonight. The plan is for him to back up Jedd Gyorko at second base, but he is the better defender of the two and it's not like Gyorko is tearing it up at the plate (.240, 0 HR, 6 RBI in 49 AB). Gyorko will have to turn it on soon to give himself some job security.

Tue Jul 24 201200:21Amarista diagnosed with jammed thumb
Alexi Amarista was diagnosed with a jammed left thumb.
Amarista suffered the injury on a head-first slide when he stole second base in the top of the fifth inning. It's a pretty vague diagnosis on the part of the Padres, so we'll likely hear more after the game.

Fri Jun 29 201202:18Amarista's slam powers Padres over Astros
Alexi Amarista smashed a grand slam home run off Brett Myers with two outs in the ninth inning on Thursday, leading the Padres to a 7-3 come-from-behind win over the Astros.
Amarista has struggled to get his bat going in his Padres tenure, hitting just .233 with a homer and eight RBI over 73 at-bats. What he has provided, however, is tremendous defense at several different positions and the always important "veteran leadership" in the club house. He's seeing the majority of the playing time at second base and could be worth a look as a middle infielder in the deepest fantasy formats.

Sun May 20 201201:03Alexi Amarista scores two runs in victory
Facing his former team, Alexi Amarista went 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in the Padres' 3-2 win over the Angels on Friday.
Amarista will be a fixture in the Padres lineup for as long as he keeps hitting. He's 3-for-8 in his three starts so far. His NL-only upside is very limited, but he has a bit of value as long as he's a regular.

Thu May 3 201221:02Padres acquire Amarista, Roach from Angels
Padres acquired INF-OF Alexi Amarista and RHP Donn Roach from the Angels for RHP Ernesto Frieri.
Amarista has appeared in 23 games with the Angels over the past two seasons and owns a .313/.370/.441 batting line over parts of six seasons in the minor leagues. The 23-year-old has decent speed and can play multiple positions, so he could end up being a useful utility player for the Friars. He'll report to Triple-A Tucson.

Fri Apr 13 201209:27Amarista optioned to Triple-A
Angels optioned 2B Alexi Amarista to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Amarista made the Halos' Opening Day roster on the back of a .339/.351/.554 spring, but had yet to receive an at-bat. With Scott Downs (ankle) ailing, the Angels need to call-up a reliever.
