Thu Oct 21 201016:38Bengie Molina to start in Game 6 of ALCS
Bengie Molina will start behind the plate in Game 6 of the ALCS.
Matt Treanor started in Game 5 and even homered, but Molina has been far more productive this postseason and is the better overall choice. He will be catching the Rangers' Game 6 starter, Colby Lewis.

Wed Oct 20 201000:38Rangers power way to 3-1 lead in ALCS
Bengie Molina went 3-for-4 with a go-ahead three run homer as the Rangers grabbed a 3-1 lead in the ALCS with a 10-3 win over the Yankees on Tuesday night.
Josh Hamilton -- who is making his case for ALCS MVP -- hit a pair of home runs and Nelson Cruz added a two-run shot in the ninth, but Molina's go-ahead three-run blast off A.J. Burnett in the sixth was the killer. Another one of Jon Daniels' midseason acquisitions, Molina is batting .385 (10-for-26) with two home runs and seven RBI during the postseason.
Wed Oct 6 201016:52Molina homers, Rangers take Game 1
Bengie Molina finished 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI Wednesday as the Rangers grabbed a victory in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Rays.
Jeff Francoeur put the Rangers on the board early with an RBI double in the second inning that nearly cleared the center field wall. Molina then singled to score Frenchy and added a solo homer in the fourth as the Rangers coasted to an easy Game 1 win. Matt Treanor is expected to start behind the plate in Game 2 with C.J. Wilson on the mound.
Sat Oct 2 201011:28Molina, Treanor to split postseason catching
Bengie Molina is expected to catch Cliff Lee in Game 1 of the ALDS, however Matt Treanor will catch C.J. Wilson in Game 2.
Molina is most likely to start Game 3 as Treanor is the personal catcher only for C.J. Wilson. This kind of arrangement has been done in the playoffs before as recently as last year when Francisco Cervelli caught another wild pitcher in A.J. Burnett.

Sun Jul 25 201020:24C Molina to keep getting majority of ABs
Bengie Molina will continue to get the vast majority of catching at-bats in Texas.
Molina was being used by the team every three games and then Matt Treanor would play two. But now Treanor is on the DL, Taylor Teagarden is back, and the catching rotation has changed. "Molina is going to be getting most of the time. Teagarden is the backup. Bottom line," manager Ron Washington said.

Mon Jul 19 201019:04Molina out of Monday's lineup
Bengie Molina is out of the starting lineup for the second straight day Monday.
The AL Player of the Week was in the starting lineup on Saturday, but it wouldn't be surprising to learn that his quad is still barking a bit. Matt Treanor will start behind the plate again Monday.

Thu Jul 15 201022:38Molina goes deep for first time as Ranger
Bengie Molina homered Thursday in the victory over Boston.
It was his fourth blast on the season and his first while wearing a Rangers uniform. The longball, a two-run shot, was the lone hit on the night for the catcher, and he is hitting just .185 since arriving in Texas.
Sat Jul 3 201001:34Molina singles in debut with Rangers
Bengie Molina was 1-for-4 in his Rangers debut against the White Sox on Friday night.
Molina received a warm welcome from the crowd at the Ballpark at Arlington. And why not? Rangers catchers have combined to bat just .207/.307/.320 this season. Just about anything is an improvement. Molina's days as a quality mixed league option are likely behind him, but he should benefit with his new surroundings.
Thu Jul 1 201008:46Rangers will not add salary in Molina deal
According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com, the Rangers did not add payroll in order to acquire Bengie Molina.
Basically, nothing will change. The Giants are expected to pay Molina's salary while the Rangers will do the same with Chris Ray. In turn, Olney speculates the Rangers could possibly acquire Cliff Lee from the Mariners without adding any salary. Olney believes the Rangers could flip the contract of another player -- possibly Rich Harden -- while getting the M's to absorb some of Lee's salary. In return, the Rangers would send a package of premium prospects. It's hard to believe the Rangers would give up that much for a rental, but it's a possibility.

Wed Jun 30 201023:28Molina-for-Ray won't be completed til Thurs.
FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi reports that the trade sending Bengie Molina to the Rangers and Chris Ray to the Giants won't be completed until Thursday morning.
The Giants are also getting a player to be named later for their veteran catcher, who has hit just .257 with a .312 on-base percentage, .332 slugging percentage and only three home runs in 202 at-bats. Getting Molina out of the picture in San Francisco should help Buster Posey finally get regular at-bats, and regular time behind the plate where he still needs development. On the flip side, Chris Ray should be a nice addition to the Giants' relief corps.

Wed Jun 30 201022:14Giants get Chris Ray, PTBNL for Bengie Molina
Scott Boeck of USA Today reports that the Giants will get reliever Chris Ray and a player to be named later for catcher Bengie Molina.
The swap only needs approval from Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig, which should come before the night is through. Molina will immediately provide the Rangers with a solid, veteran presence at catcher and should show better power marks in the club's cozy ballpark. Ray, 28, has a 3.41 ERA, a 1.26 WHIP and a 16/16 K/BB ratio in 35 appearances this season. He will pitch in middle relief in San Francisco.

Wed Jun 30 201020:10Report: Texas in serious talks for B. Molina
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Rangers are in serious talks with the Giants about acquiring catcher Bengie Molina.
Moving Molina would allow the Giants to fit youngster Buster Posey into the starting lineup on a more regular basis. The veteran Molina is batting just .257/.312/.332 this season in San Francisco with three home runs and 17 RBI. He'd have an easier time flashing his power potential in Texas. Morosi believes a deal could happen within the next 24 hours.

Sun Jun 20 201010:35Molina missing from Giants' lineup
Bengie Molina is not in the Giants' lineup on Sunday.
Despite his absence, Buster Posey still isn't the starting catcher. He is in the order, but he'll start at first base once again, with Eli Whiteside starting behind the plate. It seems a curious choice, but perhaps the Giants are convinced that Posey simply can't catch at the major league level.

Sun May 30 201009:17Giants' Molina told his job is safe
Giants manager Bruce Bochy told Bengie Molina that his job and playing time were safe even after the arrival of catching prospect Buster Posey.
Molina hasn't really earned that security this season, as he's hitting just .271/.338/.353 and has caught just five of the 39 attempted basestealers. There's certainly virtue in sticking by veterans over a flash-in-the-pan rookie, but that doesn't seem to be Posey. We'll know more when Posey has a few more at-bats under his belt, but if he plays the way he's capable of playing, then keeping him at first base would be something of a waste.
