Owings had a very disappointing spring, and will look to build on last season's decent rebound effort. Parrino has received a long look this spring. After a sluggish period that saw his batting average drop to .184, he now sports a slightly more respectable .228/.302/.456 triple slash. With four long balls and a couple of steals, don't be surprised if he meets the Padres' utility infielder needs on Opening Day. | ||||||

He'll take the place of James Darnell, who was sent back down to the minors following Wednesday's game. Parrino, 25, is a .264/.368/.398 career hitter in the minor leagues, but batted .315/.393/.511 with 12 homers, 56 RBI and a .905 OPS over 357 plate appearances between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson this season. He'll mostly function as a backup at second base and shortstop and is unlikely to have much in the way of fantasy value. | ||||||
