Pena is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Tucker Barnhart will take over behind the plate, pushing Pena to the bench after two straight starts. Pena is batting .295 with a .369 OBP for the season and likely deserves a larger share of the workload, but Barnhart has more experience with the likes of Mike Lorenzen and Josh Smith from his time in the Reds' farm system.

Pena is out of the lineup for a second straight day Wednesday against the Pirates.

While catchers normally receive a day off here and there, it's a bit surprising that Pena will sit for the second day in a row and the fourth time in six games. Tucker Barnhart will again start in his place, batting seventh for the Reds.

Pena started four of the last five games, so Tucker Barnhart will get the nod Tuesday night. Neither catcher has provided much pop this season, but with a .292 batting average, .365 on-base percentage and 15:19 K:BB ratio, Pena should continue to get most of the at-bats.

He's delivered credible work at catcher in the absence of Devin Mesoraco, as Pena sports a .302 average and has walked more times (17) than he's struck out (14). However, with no homers and bottom-dollar counting stats (just 11 RBI and 11 runs in 48 games), his fantasy value is largely limited to two-catcher or NL-only formats.

While the 33-year-old doesn't have a big bat (23 career home runs), he is on pace for career highs in hits and runs scored. Further, his role as the primary option behind the plate Cincinnati seems secure with Devin Mesoraco (hip) expected to play left field upon his return.

Pena is out of the lineup Monday against the Phillies.

Pena will receive another day off behind the plate Monday following two starts Saturday and Sunday. The veteran backstop sits at .280/.360/.333 through 41 games this season, but has gone just 2-for-16 in his last four games plus a pinch hit appearance. Tucker Barnhart will receive the start behind the plate Monday, batting seventh for the Reds.

Pena is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Padres, MLB.com's Jamie Ramsey reports.

Pena and Tucker Barnhart have been alternating starts over the last week or so, but Pena is probably still the better bet for playing time, as he's surprisingly produced a .371 on-base percentage this season.

Pena is not in the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.

Pena will take a seat for a regular day off, giving way to Tucker Barnhart behind the plate.

Pena has swung the bat well this season, sticking .322/.398/.367 with four RBI and six runs in 28 games. He'll receive his second day off in four contests Wednesday, with Tucker Barnhart starting behind the plate and batting ninth.

Pena went 3-for-4 a double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Braves. He's now hitting .355/.429/.411 on the season.

Pena and Tucker Barnhart have been alternating starts behind the plate lately while Devin Mesoraco can't catch. This is the upper bound of what Pena can do, and he's unlikely to keep this up, but he's not what's wrong with the Reds offense.

Pena is out of the lineup Monday against the Braves.

Pena will receive a day off following a 2-for-4 day at the plate Sunday. He's now collected a hit in four straight and seven of the last eight games, and sits at .333/.413/.377 on the season. Tucker Barnhart will catch for the Reds on Monday, batting eighth.

Pena is out of the lineup for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

This comes as no surprise as Pena started the first half of Saturday's doubleheader. Tucker Barnhart will slot in as the backstop for the nightcap.

Pena is not in the lineup Thursday against the Braves.

Tucker Barnhart will be rewarded with another start after going 1-for-2 with his first home run of the season Wednesday. Pena has seen most of the time in place of Devin Mesoraco (hip) and has fared well, going 13-for-42 with three doubles, eight walks and six strikeouts. Mesoraco isn't expected to be able to catch for another 7-to-10 days.

Pena started Tuesday's game with Devin Mesoraco (hip) out, but failed to record a hit in three at bats.

Pena has started three straight games now with Mesoraco out, but has yet to drive in a run or score one on his own. After the game, Reds manager Bryan Price said Mesoraco wasn't going to be placed on the DL, meaning he could return any day, which would send Pena back to the bench.

Pena (shoulder) is in the lineup again Monday against the Cubs, Jon Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Pena injured his shoulder making a headfirst slide into first base Sunday, but with Devin Mesoraco (hip) back in Cincinnati, he will start again Monday anyway. The Reds called up Kyle Skipworth as insurance behind the plate Monday, and they may need to turn to him if Pena's shoulder should give him any trouble.
