Colome (pneumonia) will make his first rehab start at Port Charlotte on Saturday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The Rays haven't offered up a concrete timetable for Colome's return, but it's reasonable to think that he'll need at least two rehab starts in the minors before he's stretched out enough to be activated from the disabled list. If that were to materialize, he would be activated in approximately two weeks.
Wed Apr 1 201513:26Colome (illness) scheduled to throw live batting practice Friday
Colome (illness) is scheduled to throw live batting practice Friday, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE Tampa reports.
The team has been pleased with Colome's progress in his standard bullpen sessions, enough to return him to live BP before the end of the week. While the news has been encouraging regarding Colome, who is working his way back from a bout of pneumonia, there has been nothing to suggest his timetable for a return has been moved up. He must stay on the DL until Apr. 11, and the expectation is that he will remain out for additional week or two beyond that date.
Sat Mar 28 201516:54Colome (illness) completed 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday
Colome (illness) completed a 40-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
The right-hander returned to mound work Monday, tossing 20 pitches at about 70 percent, and doubled his workload in his second of three scheduled bullpen sessions Saturday. Battling back from pneumonia, Colome will open the year on the DL, and it's expected he will remain out for a week or two beyond his earliest possible activation date of April 11.
Sat Mar 28 201510:54Colome (illness) placed on DL
Colome (illness) has been placed on the DL, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Since the assignment is backdated to March 27, Colome will be able to return April 11, five games into the Rays' season. However, he wouldn't be guaranteed to make his return to the field then. Even with Rays' rotation injury woes, Colome isn't likely to be ready until a week or two after his return date, Topkin also reports.
Mon Mar 23 201511:35Alex Colome: (Pneumonia) Throws Bullpen Session
Colome (pneumonia) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session at around 70 percent Monday and everything went well, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.
This was the first of three such planned bullpen sessions as Colome begins to work his way back from a serious illness. With Drew Smyly (shoulder) and Alex Cobb (forearm) ailing, Colome could be called on to join the rotation in mid-to-late April.

Colome (pneumonia) will throw the first of three scheduled bullpen sessions Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Although he's not expected to be ready for the start of the season, Colome could be stretched out enough after one or two turns through the rotation to take a starting job. With Drew Smyly (shoulder) and Alex Cobb (forearm) also delayed to start the year, the Rays will turn to the likes of Nate Karns, Matt Andriese, and Burch Smith to handle larger roles.
Wed Mar 18 201516:29Colome (pneumonia) not expected to be ready for start of season
Colome (pneumonia) is not expected to be ready for the start of the season, the Tampa Tribune reports.
Along with teammates Drew Smyly (shoulder) and Alex Cobb (forearm), Colome's absence to begin the year will test the Rays' organizational depth on the mound. The Rays have not outlined a timetable for Colome's expected return, but it's likely that Nate Karns, Matt Andriese, and Burch Smith will receive chances to start in April. Colome's arrival to spring training was delayed by visa issues, and his setback with the illness will only further slow his effort to get stretched out and prepared to take the ball every fifth day.
Tue Mar 17 201511:11Colome (illness) still in hospital while dealing with pneumonia
Colome (illness) is still in the hospital while dealing with pneumonia, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Colome was expected to be released from the hospital Sunday afternoon, but two days have passed and he still hasn't left. Given that he already missed time because of visa issue, Colome appears increasingly unlikely to crack the Opening Day roster. It's a disappointing turn of events, as the right-hander was expected to compete for a spot in the starting rotation. Not that it should entirely be ruled out, but he doesn't have much time to prepare for the season.

Colome (illness) remains in the hospital but is expected to be released Sunday afternoon, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE in Tampa reports.
Colome is dealing with pneumonia, which has set him back this spring while he battles for a roster spot. He'll likely be limited for at least a few more days while recovering, and it's unclear how it may affect his status for the start of the regular season.
Fri Mar 13 201511:33Colome dealing with pneumonia
Colome is dealing with pneumonia, Roger Mooney of The Tampa Tribune reports.
Colome's spring has been far from ideal, as he was already a late arrival to camp because of visa issues. He just joined the Rays on Tuesday, and he probably won't be able to do much of anything for at least the next few days. It's now unclear whether Colome will be ready for the start of the season, which has to be disappointing for a guy competing for a rotation spot.
Tue Mar 10 201510:53Colome has now joined Rays in spring training
Colome has now joined the Rays in spring training, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
After visa issues delayed his arrival to spring training, Colome has finally joined the Rays at camp. The young righty has been working at the team's facility in the Dominican Republic and expects to be able to take the mound in a game by this upcoming weekend. Colome and Nate Karns are the current favorites in the competition for the fifth spot in the Rays' rotation.

General manager Matthew Silverman said Saturday that he anticipates Colome (visa issues) will join the Rays' spring training "hopefully next week," Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
While he's been waiting to secure the necessary paperwork, Colome has begun throwing at the Rays' facility in his native Dominican Republic. Assuming he's able to arrive in the United States by next week, Colome shouldn't find himself too far behind the rest of the Rays' collection of starters that are battling for the No. 5 rotation spot.

Colome did not record a decision Monday against the Yankees as he allowed six hits and one walk to go along with four strikeouts in 6.2 scoreless innings.
The Rays think highly of Colome and called him up to join their rotation down the stretch. Although he didn't see much action in the major leagues this season, he could work his way into the starting rotation discussion next season with a strong finish to 2014.

Colome will be called up from Triple-A Durham to start Monday's game versus the Yankees, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Now that Triple-A Durham's season has come to an end, Colome will head up to the big leagues to finish the 2014 campaign with the Rays. The 25-year-old righty will be on the bump Monday night in place of another rookie hurler, as Jake Odorizzi has already logged 159 innings this season and is likely to be limited the rest of the way. Colome is one of the Rays' top young arms and has posted a solid 2.45 ERA while allowing just 19 hits across 25.2 innings at the major league level during the past two years. However, those numbers have been accompanied by an unsightly 15:16 K:BB ratio.

Fri Jun 27 201416:48Alex Colome pitches well in spot start
Alex Colome pitched well in a spot start Friday, holding the Orioles to one run over 5 2/3 frames in a 5-2 victory.
Colome was wild (although home plate umpire Tony Randazzo's zone was tiny), walking four, but he struck out three and surrendered just two hits, out-dueling Kevin Gausman. The young right-hander was serving as the 26th man during a doubleheader and will be sent back down, but he made a nice impression.

Colome opened the 2014 regular season on a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug in March. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a promising 2.25 ERA with 12 strikeouts over his first 16 major league innings last season.
