Fri Aug 23 201322:41Matsuzaka gives up five runs in Mets debut
Making his Mets debut, Daisuke Matsuzaka gave up five runs over five innings in Friday's loss to the Tigers.
Dice-K gave up a solo homer to Torii Hunter in the first inning and four runs in the second inning, including a massive three-run blast by Miguel Cabrera, but he settled down to retire the final 10 batters he faced. Given the difficulty of the matchup and that he was pitching on three days' rest, the Mets were probably happy to get five innings out of him. There's a good chance he'll stick in the rotation for the rest of the season, but he's unlikely to be a factor in most fantasy leagues.

Daisuke Matsuzaka (oblique) is expected to be activated from the disabled list with Triple-A Columbus in 2-4 weeks.
Matsuzaka has been out since April 28, but the Indians believe he'l be pitching again ''in weeks, not months.'' In five Triple-A starts, Matsuzaka has a 24/18 K/BB ratio and 3.92 ERA. If he can show that he's healthy, Matsuzaka could be an option for the Indians' rotation at some point this season.

Sun Mar 17 201312:26Daisuke Matsuzaka not expected to make team
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that Daisuke Matsuzaka's chances of making the Indians' Opening Day roster "have apparently come to an end."
Matsuzaka struck out five over three innings of one-run ball Saturday in a minor league game, but he's been limited to just three Grapefruit League innings due to a calf injury. "We've got to figure out what to do going forward," said manager Terry Francona. "Because of the setback and coming into camp without throwing bullpens, he's only out to three innings. We're starting to run out of innings. We're going to have to sit down and figure this out and we will." When asked if Matsuzaka would report to the minors or opt out of his contract, Francona said "I'm not ready for that conversation yet."
