Thu Feb 28 201301:19Chris Kaman surprise starter for Mavs
After picking up a DNP-CD on Tuesday, Chris Kaman was surprisingly in the starting lineup (instead of Bernard James) for the Mavericks on Wednesday, finishing with six points, four rebounds, three assists and a block on 3-of-5 shooting in 22 minutes.
Neither the minutes or production were all that exciting, but at least he played, right? Kaman played eight minutes in his first game back from a concussion on Sunday and sat out Tuesday before tonight's line. He's worth monitoring going forward, but with Elton Brand coming on and Rick Carlisle's apparent indifference to using Kaman, he doesn't look like a must-own fantasy center after his last three games. Watch him closely going forward.

Wed Feb 27 201301:16Chris Kaman benched on Tuesday
Chris Kaman got a DNP-CD on Tuesday after racking up four points and four rebounds in eight minutes in his return on Sunday from a concussion.
We get the sense Rick Carlisle's not a big Kaman fan and didn't mind him being out with his concussion. Elton Brand has been coming on and played well tonight, with 12 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, and we're guessing Carlisle just doesn't have a serious plan to get Kaman back into the rotation right now.

Mon Feb 25 201308:40Carlisle very pleased with Kaman's return
Rick Carlisle said that he was "very pleased" with Chris Kaman's return from a concussion against the Lakers on Sunday.
Kaman played eight minutes and had four points with four rebounds, but Carlisle will likely easy him in after initially returning to action. Kaman wasn't playing more than 24 minutes per game routinely before his concussion, so it would be a mild surprise if he suddenly stumbled into a larger role.

Sun Feb 24 201316:26Kaman plays eight minutes in return Sunday
Chris Kaman played eight minutes in his first action since January 27 and had four points, four boards and one turnover against the Lakers on Sunday.
He missed exactly four weeks with a concussion and Dallas will likely keep him on a tight leash. The Mavs have some depth in the frontcourt and Kaman isn't really worth owning in standard leagues with a slew of other hot free agents out there.

Sun Feb 24 201301:54Chris Kaman (concussion) available on Sunday
Chris Kaman (concussion) will be available to play on Sunday.
Kaman has missed 10 consecutive games, but he's in a contract year and has been eager to shake the notion that he's injury prone. "Hopefully, I'll get a few minutes tomorrow," Kaman said. "The headaches are gone, so I'm clear. I'm going to play. It's been too long." He was averaging 11.5 minutes in the two games before his concussion, and there's no reason to think Rick Carlisle has had a change of heart.

Sat Feb 23 201315:12Chris Kaman practices on Saturday
Chris Kaman (concussion) practiced again on Saturday.
He practiced on Thursday for the first time since January 28 and it's looking more likely that he'll be back on Sunday vs. the Lakers. Bernard James went off with seven blocks on Friday and has been coming on, so Kaman probably won't need to play 24 minutes per game for Dallas in the near future. Unless it's out of desperation for a center, he shouldn't be owned in standard leagues just yet.

Thu Feb 21 201315:00Chris Kaman practices on Thursday
Chris Kaman practiced on Thursday for the first time since January 28 and he could play as soon as Sunday.
Dallas will take on the Lakers and they haven't missed him too much lately. The Mavs have won four of their last five and Kaman seems unlikely to play against the Hornets on Friday. Elton Brand and Bernard James figure to lose some value with Kaman back in the fold.

Fri Feb 15 201309:50Chris Kaman said he had a slight setback
Chris Kaman (concussion) said he recently experienced "a really bad headache" after a workout and was told to slow his recovery by team doctors.
Kaman has been dealing the concussion for over two weeks and there's no timetable for his return. Head injuries are notoriously difficult to predict and one setback can cost a player days if not weeks of recovery time. Bernard James, Elton Brand and Brandan Wright will continue to see more time as long as Kaman is sidelined.

Wed Feb 13 201307:57Chris Kaman experiencing continued headaches
Chris Kaman, who has passed the NBA-mandated concussion test, has not been cleared to play due to continued headaches.
Kaman was initially injured on January 28 and there is still no timetable for his return. Rick Carlisle will not provide any updates on Kaman until he's ready to practice, so while he's out, expect Bernard James, Elton Brand and Brandan Wright to continue to step in.

Tue Feb 5 201315:05Chris Kaman doing some light shooting
Chris Kaman (concussion) was spotted doing some light shooting Tuesday.
Kaman still hasn't been cleared to practice, but he appears to be getting closer. He's scheduled to take the NBA's concussion test -- which he calls the "stupidest test ever -- again on Wednesday. Note that even before going down, Kaman had been relegated to a bit role on the Mavs' bench.

Tue Feb 5 201309:16Chris Kaman remains out with concussion
Chris Kaman remains out with a concussion.
"We'll let you know when he's available to start practicing," coach Rick Carlisle said. "That's the thing that will be next in the process of coming back." Kaman has been out indefinitely since sustaining the concussion in late January, and while he remains sidelined, his minutes will be split between Brandan Wright, Elton Brand and Bernard James.

Thu Jan 31 201321:35Kaman (concussion) travels back to Dallas
Chris Kaman went back to Dallas for further testing on his concussion and he might not join the team on their current road trip.
He's out indefinitely with the injury and the Mavericks will likely use a patchwork approach to replace his 23.7 minutes per game this season. Kaman can be left on the waiver wire in most leagues until he gets clearance to take part in practice. Bernard James, Elton Brand and Brandan Wright gain some value in deeper leagues.

Wed Jan 30 201308:47Chris Kaman out indefinitely with concussion
Chris Kaman is out indefinitely with a concussion.
Kaman did not play on Tuesday and is now out indefinitely following Kaman experiencing headaches and dizziness. Bernard James got his second straight start at center without Kaman available but played just 15 minutes, while Elton Brand played 17 minutes and Brandan Wright played 15. It appears to be a center by committee approach in Dallas.

Tue Jan 29 201320:49Chris Kaman out Tuesday with concussion
Chris Kaman will miss Tuesday's game against the Blazers with a concussion.
Consider him day-to-day for now, but it's possible that Kaman could miss several games with the injury. Elton Brand should be the primary beneficiary in his absence.

Tue Jan 29 201314:35Chris Kaman misses shootaround
Chris Kaman (head) did not participate in Tuesday morning's shootaround.
Kaman reportedly bumped his head in practice on Monday. If we didn't know better, we would suspect this has something to do with his recent demotion and subsequent pouting. Since losing his starting center job two games ago, Kaman is playing just 11.5 minutes per night.

Mon Jan 28 201310:24Chris Kaman unhappy with his role right now
Chris Kaman is not happy with his current role in the Mavericks rotation.
Signed to a one-year, $8 million contract in the offseason, Kaman was relegated to just 11 minutes on Sunday while rookie Bernard James started at center. "It's frustrating," Kaman said, "so I'd rather not talk about it and get myself in trouble if I say some things I shouldn't." Kaman also said, "it's not really fun sitting over there playing 10, 15 minutes a game."

Sun Jan 27 201323:00Chris Kaman benched, plays 11 minutes
Chris Kaman played just 11 minutes and had six points and five rebounds on Sunday.
He's behind Elton Brand and just about every other big man on the depth chart right now, but that doesn't mean he won't be relevant for Rick Carlisle in two weeks. But if you want to drop Kaman for a hot free agent, no one would blame you.
