Mon Oct 22 201200:22Brooks provides instant offense off bench
Aaron Brooks hit 4-of-5 shots and a 3-pointer in 18 minutes of Sunday's preseason win over the Lakers, finishing with 16 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Brooks is talented, but has to deal with not only starting point guard Isaiah Thomas, but also Jimmer Fredette in order to get enough minutes to make a difference. For now, Brooks has no fantasy value as long as he's locked into a bench role, but he'll be worth keeping an eye on all season long.

Tue Oct 16 201202:10Brooks scores 16 points in start at PG
Aaron Brooks started at point guard and scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in Monday's preseason win over the Blazers.
That was the good, but he struggled on defense and turned the ball over twice to just one assist -- but don't be surprised if the Sac media tries to manufacture a PG controversy. Isaiah Thomas took Brooks' predetermined role as the low-minute guy from the last preseason contest, and Jimmer was given an extended run down the stretch which was predictably a disaster. Above all this game was played with practically no defense, especially by the Blazers, and we'll be looking to the future to figure out where this position battle is heading. As of right now, Thomas is still the favorite to start and get the larger share of minutes.

Mon Jul 16 201217:30Aaron Brooks agrees to deal w/ Sacramento
The Kings and free agent Aaron Brooks have agreed on a contract, according to multiple sources.
Brooks himself Tweeted "Sacramento Kings," so this is a done deal, though the terms of the contract aren't yet known. The signing has some very interesting implications -- it suggests that the Kings don't view Isaiah Thomas as ready (or capable, at 5'10") of being their full-time starting PG, it confirms that they don't view Jimmer Fredette as ready (or capable) of being a heavy-minutes PG, and it suggests that they won't move Tyreke Evans back to PG rather than his less-preferred SF position. Brooks could very well start this year, but there's no lack of competition for minutes.

Sun Jul 8 201222:56Rockets coach meets w/ FA Aaron Brooks
Rockets coach Kevin McHale reportedly met with unrestricted FA Aaron Brooks on Sunday.
Houston has a standing offer to restricted FA Jeremy Lin worth about $30 million, but the Knicks will match it. Having lost Goran Dragic and Kyle Lowry this summer, they are understandably eager to woo Brooks, a starting-caliber PG. During his Most Improved Player season in 2009-10, Brooks averaged 19.6 points, 2.5 threes, 2.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 0.8 steals, while starting all 82 games and averaging 35.6.

Sat Jul 7 201200:40Suns withdraw qualifying offer to Brooks
The Suns withdrew their qualifying offer to Aaron Brooks on Friday.
They weren't expected to keep Brooks and we expect him to be picked up pretty soon, with the Rockets being in the lead to obtain his services.

Fri Jul 6 201221:35Rockets interested in Aaron Brooks
The Rockets are interested in bringing back restricted free agent Aaron Brooks.
The Suns aren't likely to match an offer now that they have Goran Dragic and Kendall Marshall, and the Rockets have a gaping hole at the position. Rockets beat writer Jonathan Feigen said the Rockets have no interest in Ramon Sessions or Raymond Felton, and in the case of Sessions it contradicts an earlier report out of ESPN Dallas. That would seemingly indicate that Sessions lands in Dallas and Brooks lands in Houston, but that's pure speculation. Feigen says a deal in Houston is not imminent and not tied to the team's offer on Jeremy Lin.

Thu Jul 5 201217:42Mavs targeting Brooks, Foye, maybe Sessions
The Mavericks, who are stunned at losing Jason Kidd to the Knicks on Thursday, are now said to be targeting free agents Aaron Brooks (restricted), Randy Foye, and possibly Ramon Sessions (both unrestricted).
Both the Mavericks and Rockets have huge holes to fill at point guard, and while the three aforementioned players all have talent, they're not exactly who teams want as a starter running their offense. The Mavericks could be in for a long season.

Fri Jun 29 201208:42Suns officially extend tender to Aaron Brooks
The Suns have officially extended a qualifying contract offer to Aaron Brooks, making him a restricted free agent.
This was an expected move. The Suns will now be able to match any offer the team receives on Brooks, but the club probably won't be willing to overpay after drafting Kendall Marshall on Thursday night.

Tue Jun 26 201210:30Suns will extend qualifying offer to Brooks
The Suns will extend a qualifying contract offer to Aaron Brooks, making him a restricted free agent.
Some forgot about Brooks last season after he played out the year in China, but he's back and will return to the NBA next year. Phoenix can't pursue a sign-and-trade scenario with Brooks because he was not on the team's payroll last season, but the team could certainly look to keep him should Steve Nash depart in free agency.

Wed Jun 20 201209:20Brooks, Hinrich, Felton options for Lakers?
Aaron Brooks, Raymond Felton and Kirk Hinrich could all be on the Lakers' free agent radar if Ramon Sessions signs with a different team.
To be clear, this is just speculation from ESPN LA's Dave McMenamin, but all three names make varying levels of sense for the Lakers with the mini midlevel exception. After Sessions opted out of his deal, the Lakers will need to make backup plans in the case that he signs elsewhere. While Brooks is a restricted free agent and the Suns could match any offer, both Hinrich and Felton are unrestricted free agents and could be willing to take a pay cut in order to play for a contender.

Sat May 5 201210:32Aaron Brooks: Suns' restricted free agent
Aaron Brooks' status as a restricted free agent is complicated by the Suns' impending decision about free agent Steve Nash.
If Nash re-signs in Phoenix, then the Suns would almost certainly let Brooks sign elsewhere, but if Nash leaves they'll be looking for a new starting PG. Brooks was clear about how he views his role in the NBA, saying, "If I'm not a starter, I'm definitely trying to be Sixth Man of the Year."

Thu Apr 5 201214:27Brooks not expected to join the Suns now
Beat writer Paul Coro does not expect Aaron Brooks to join the Suns this season.
Brooks' Chinese team lost in the Finals, 4-1. He's now eligible to sign with Phoenix, but it's not a likely scenario with Steve Nash, Sebastian Telfair and Ronnie Price all healthy. Brooks will become a restricted free agent this offseason if the Suns don't sign him now.

Thu Mar 29 201214:24Aaron Brooks still in Chinese Finals
Aaron Brooks' team is in the Chinese Basketball Association finals.
Brooks' Guangdong Southern Tigers trail Stephon Marbury's Beijing Ducks 3-1 in a best-of-seven series. Once the series is over, Brooks will be allowed to re-sign with the Suns as a restricted free agent. It's unclear if the Suns wish to bring Brooks back as Sebastian Telfair has held down the backup point guard job nicely.

Thu Mar 8 201214:07Aaron Brooks nearing the Finals in China
Aaron Brooks' team is still alive in the Chinese Basketball Association playoffs.
Brooks is the star of the Guangdong Southern Tigers, who are one win away from the CBA Finals. Once the season is over, he'll be free to sign with the Suns. If no deal is reached, he'll be a restricted free agent this offseason -- just like Wilson Chandler's situation with the Nuggets.

Thu Feb 2 201214:43Aaron Brooks averging 20.5 points in China
The Suns will retain restricted free agent rights on Aaron Brooks once his team is eliminated from the Chinese Basketball Association playoffs.
For what it's worth (very little), Brooks is averaging 20.5 points and 4.8 assists in China. His team is in first place, so he's not expected to be eligible to return to the NBA until March. Brooks may choose to sit out the rest of the NBA season in search of a multi-year deal this summer.

Thu Nov 17 201109:05Aaron Brooks signs with Guangdong in China
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Aaron Brooks has reached an agreement to play for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China.
The team has been linked to fellow point guard Rodney Stuckey, but Brooks' signing would seem to indicate that Stuckey is no longer an option. Brooks, a restricted free agent, is allowed to sign in China but will not be able to return until the close of the Chinese season.

Fri Sep 9 201109:49Aaron Brooks not so keen on Maccabi deal?
Aaron Brooks has reportedly discussed a deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv for whenever the NBA season gets underway.
The talks have been confirmed by multiple sources, but momentum in the NBA's lockout negotiations may have "scared" Brooks. It sounds like his interest in playing in Israel has waned for the moment, but any stall in CBA talks could prod him to join Jordan Farmar in Maccabi's backcourt.

Thu Sep 8 201122:42Report: Brooks flirting with Maccabi Tel Aviv
Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly after Suns backup point guard Aaron Brooks, according to Eurobasket.com.
There isn't much smoke here, and until there is we're throwing this report in the pile of reports that have come to pass without any movement. As a RFA with a $3 million qualifying offer from the Suns, and having made just under $4 million in his career, he would have to be desperate to risk injury overseas.

Sat Jul 30 201109:53Report: Aaron Brooks considering China offer
Aaron Brooks is reportedly considering an offer from a team in China.
Brooks already endorses multiple Chinese products and is very popular there due to his time with Yao Ming and the Rockets. Players don't typically earn huge salaries in the Chinese Basketball Association, but the opportunities for marketing are tremendous.

Wed Jul 27 201111:24Point guard Aaron Brooks loves Phoenix
Aaron Brooks, a restricted free agent, says he loves playing for the Suns, despite being a backup to Steve Nash.
"How's Phoenix? I love Phoenix," he said. "I think they like me, too. They picked up my qualifying offer, didn't they?" After surprisingly losing his job to Kyle Lowry in Houston, Brooks probably likes telling people he plays behind Nash.
