Tue Feb 21 201202:23Ayon struggles against athletic Thunder bigs
Gustavo Ayon started off his week quietly on Monday, scoring just four points on 2-of-5 shooting with five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks in 21 minutes.
The good news is that Ayon's reviews were mostly good, but the Thunder's Serge Ibaka was just too much for him tonight. Ayon was also left on the bench during the fourth quarter as the team's second unit battled back from a 26-point deficit, so Monty Williams rode them to the finish. The steal and two blocks illustrate the upside with Ayon, so don't let one game against one of the league's best teams deter you here.

Fri Feb 17 201223:14Ayon records second straight double-double
Gustavo Ayon double-doubled again on Friday, racking up 13 points and 11 rebounds in the Hornets victory over the Knicks.
Tonight marks the second consecutive double-double for Ayon, and he makes for a solid pickup with Carl Landry (knee), Jason Smith (concussion) and Emeka Okafor (knee) all currently sidelined. All three players aren't expected to return before the All-Star break, so Ayon will continue to get a ton of run at least until then, if not longer.

Thu Feb 16 201202:18Ayon double-doubles with 12 points, 12 rebs
Gustavo Ayon will start at power forward for through the All Star break, and scored 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting with a season-high 12 rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes.
Carl Landry (knee), Jason Smith (concussion), and Emeka Okafor (knee) are all out through the All Star break at least, making Ayon a must-own player in 8/9 cat, 12-team leagues. Ayon didn't have a block tonight, but has averaged just 1.0 blocks in 15 minutes per game, a figure that is sure to increase in his new role.

Tue Feb 14 201201:17Ayon nears double-double in win over Jazz
Gustavo Ayon started at power forward due to Emeka Okafor's knee injury and scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting with nine rebounds, one steal, and three blocks in 36 minutes on Monday against the Jazz.
Ayon had a similar opportunity with guys injured on Friday and had a dud, so it's not entirely clear that he can be productive when given the minutes. Then there's the Monty Williams issue, too. But with the youth movement on in New Orleans and the various injuries hitting the frontcourt, Ayon is worth a look after this nice outing.

Mon Feb 6 201211:39Gustavo Ayon to get starting nod?
Beat writer Jimmy Smith suggests Gustavo Ayon could start at power forward in Monday's game against the Kings.
Jason Smith (concussion) is "likely out," Carl Landry (knee) is sidelined indefinitely and Chris Kaman just rejoined the team on Sunday.

Tue Jan 31 201200:25Ayon scores eight points with two boards
Gustavo Ayon scored eight points on 4-of-6 shooting with two rebounds, one assist, two steals, and one block in 18 minutes off the bench on Monday.
Ayon made some slight noise on Sunday with eight points, seven boards, and three blocks in 25 minutes, but as you can see his minutes and production are much too wacky for an add in 12-14 team formats.

Sun Jan 29 201223:04Gustavo Ayon plays well again on Sunday
Gustavo Ayon played 25 minutes and had six points, seven rebounds and three more blocks in Sunday's bad loss to the Hawks.
Ayon is a very intriguing player when he gets minutes, but his playing time is as erratic as any player in the league. He had 16 points on Wednesday, but didn't score on Friday, and hadn't scored in four of his previous five games coming into this one. He's worth watching, but tonight's line looked to be more a garbage-time situation than anything else. Carl Landry was benched and played just 14 minutes tonight, but we're guessing the lopsided score was largely responsible for the move. Unless you're in a very deep league, Ayon belongs on waivers for now.

Thu Jan 26 201200:01Gustavo Ayon scores career-high 16
Hornets big man Gustavo Ayon hit 8-of-10 shots for a career-high 16 points, two rebounds, three steals and a block in just 17 minutes on Wednesday.
He has apparently passed Chris Kaman on the depth chart, as Kaman was deactivated tonight, despite being healthy. But Ayon is averaging just three points per game and simply got hot in limited run tonight. He's definitely worth keeping an eye on, but unless you're in a very deep league, isn't worth a pickup after tonight's impressive line. And by the way, the Hornets have won just three games this season and are losers of nine straight.

Thu Jan 19 201223:12Ayon not getting it done for owners
Backup F/C Gustavo Ayon played just two minutes in Thursday's loss to the Rockets.
Ayon showed some promise with a three-game stretch in which he averaged 8.0 points, 5.3 boards, and 1.6 blocks, but he's still much too inconsistent to hold down a rotation spot. We'll let you know if he makes noise again.

Monty Williams has been impressed by the play of Gustavo Ayon.
Ayon is averaging 8.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in just 17.6 minutes over the last three games, and could be in line for an increase in playing time. Owners in deeper leagues should pay attention.

Tue Jan 17 201217:06Gustavo Ayon impressing off the bench
Gustavo Ayon is averaging 8.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks over the last three games.
Ayon is impressively doing that damage in just 17.6 minutes per game. The Mexican-born undrafted rookie is playing ahead of Carl Landry and saw more minutes than Jason Smith on Monday. Still, there's not much long-term upside here. Ayon's ceiling is a classic energy big that sparks the second unit.

Fri Dec 30 201112:10Gustavo Ayon recieves work visa on Friday
Gustavo Ayon has received his work visa and can now participate in practices and games for the Hornets.
GM Dell Demps said that he's cleared and available to play, but because he is still learning the system, the Hornets will bring him along slowly. Without the benefit of training camp or a fluency in English, Ayon might not see the court for a while. He's not someone fantasy owners need to track with several others ahead of him in the rotation.

Thu Dec 29 201107:01Gustavo Ayon still awaiting work visa to play
Gustavo Ayon is still waiting for his work visa.
General Manager Dell Demps expects Ayon to be cleared to play in the very near future and blamed the delay on the holidays. Ayon can be safely ignored by fantasy owners even when he does hit the court.

Mon Dec 26 201109:45Hornets big man Ayon has visa issues
Hornets big man Gustavo Ayon is having visa issues and isn't currently allowed to play with the team.
New Orleans hopes to clear up the issue on Monday so that Ayon can play vs. the Celtics on Wednesday. His availability isn't likely to make any difference to the Hornets' rotations, as their frontcourt consists of Emeka Okafor, Chris Kaman, Carl Landry and Jason Smith.
