Masterson allowed four runs on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts over five innings in an extra inning win against the Reds on Tuesday
Masterson had another stinker of a start. That makes three out of four poor outings since joining the Cardinals at the trade deadline. The right-hander is 2-1 with a bloated 6.30 ERA for St. Louis. He will try to get things rolling Sunday in Philadelphia.

Masterson (6-7) enjoyed his best start as a Cardinal, throwing seven shutout innings versus the Marlins in a 5-2 win Wednesday.
Masterson had given up five runs in each of his first two starts since the July 30 trade to St. Louis. Wednesday's gem brings the right-hander's record to 2-1 for the Cardinals. Masterson will try to keep it going Monday against the Reds.

Masterson lasted just four batters into the third inning Friday night versus the Cardinals, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and three walks while picking up a couple of strikeouts.
Masterson has had an extremely rough beginning to his tenure in the Cardinals' rotation. In two starts since being acquired from the Indians, the big right-hander has been hammered for 10 earned runs across eight innings. Masterson will be searching for bounce-back performance Wednesday in Miami.

Masterson gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings in a winning effort against the Brewers in his Cards debut Saturday night.
The outing was definitely a mixed bag for Masterson, who failed to take advantage of a righty-heavy Milwaukee lineup on a night where he was spotted a 6-1 lead after the first two innings by the St. Louis offense. Masterson is lined up to face the Orioles at Camden Yards in his second start for the Cards on Friday.
Fri Aug 1 201417:32Masterson (knee) will start Saturday against Brewers
Masterson (knee) will start Saturday against the Brewers, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
There was some confusion as to when Masterson would make his Cardinals debut after the team acquired John Lackey on Thursday, but the team will start Masterson on Saturday and Lackey on Sunday. Masterson was on the DL with a knee injury when he was traded from Cleveland but the Cards formally activated him to the active roster Friday.
Thu Jul 31 201420:59Justin Masterson: (Knee) Could See Start Pushed Back
Following the Cardinals' acquisition of John Lackey, Masterson (knee) is no longer a lock to start Saturday's game against the Brewers, mlb.com reports.
Lackey last pitched Saturday, meaning he's available as soon as needed. It would probably be wise to use Lackey first, but the Cardinals may save him for next week's series against his former team, the Red Sox. Either way, Masterson is still slated to join the starting rotation, be it this weekend or early next week.
Wed Jul 30 201414:55Cardinals make Justin Masterson deal official
Cardinals acquired RHP Justin Masterson from the Indians in exchange for OF James Ramsey.
Masterson has struggled in his walk season, posting a 5.51 ERA over 19 starts. However, he's dealt with a knee issue and the Cards are hopeful that he'll pick things up if that injury is behind him. He should also certainly benefit from a move to the National League. Masterson will make his Cardinals' debut on Saturday against the Brewers.

Wed Jul 30 201414:44Masterson (knee) will make Cardinals debut Saturday
Masterson (knee) will make his Cardinals debut Saturday vs. the Brewers, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports.
In electing to move Carlos Martinez back to the bullpen 10 days ago, the Cardinals already had a pre-existing void in their rotation, which Masterson will be tabbed to fill. He's had a rough go of things this season with a 5.51 ERA over 98 innings, but a 4.08 FIP suggests he could be in line to generate some better results over the final two months of the season.
Wed Jul 30 201414:13Justin Masterson: (Knee) Dealt to Cardinals
Masterson (knee) was traded to the Cardinals on Wednesday, MLB Network's Peter Gammons reports.
The Cardinals were one of several teams rumored to be interested in higher-end options such as the Rays' David Price and the Red Sox's Jon Lester to upgrade their rotation before the deadline, but the high asking price for either pitcher likely motivated the team to settle on Masterson. The 29-year-old was striking out nearly a batter an inning over 19 starts with the Indians, but a 4-6 record, 5.51 ERA and 1.65 WHIP have sullied his fantasy value up to this point. He was set to come off the DL to start for the Indians on Friday, so it's possible his new team might elect to keep him on a similar schedule. Masterson's arrival ensures that Carlos Martinez will remain in the bullpen for the foreseeable future.
Wed Jul 30 201414:07Cardinals to acquire Masterson from Indians
MLB.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Cardinals are set to acquire Justin Masterson from the Indians.
The New York Post's Joel Sherman says the Cardinals will send James Ramsey to the Indians in the deal. Masterson has struggled in his walk season, posting a posting a 5.51 ERA over 19 starts. He's battled a knee injury, though, and the Cards are obviously hoping he's healthy and can improve in a move to the National League. Masterson should make his Cardinals' debut on Saturday against the Brewers. St. Louis presumably is out of picture for Jon Lester and David Price now.

Mon Jul 28 201413:48Indians 'very willing to move' SP Masterson
Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Indians are "very willing to move" Justin Masterson.
Passan says the Indians want "young, controllable starting pitching" in return, which is going to be a tough find. Masterson can become a free agent after the season and owns a rough 5.51 ERA and 1.63 ERA in 98 innings this year. The big right-hander is also on the disabled list currently with a right knee injury, though he's due back Friday night.

Fri Jul 25 201421:31Masterson surrenders five runs in rehab start
Justin Masterson struggled during his second rehab start with Triple-A Columbus on Friday, allowing five runs on four hits over his 6 2/3 innings.
The veteran right-hander struggled mightily with his command, issuing six walks and throwing just 62 of his 108 pitches for strikes. This outing certainly won't help his trade value, and it's likely he'll need at least one more tune-up before rejoining the Indians rotation.

Thu Jul 24 201421:58Teams asking Indians about Justin Masterson
Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that teams have asked the Indians about the availability of Justin Masterson.
Making his way back from a knee injury, Masterson will make his second rehab start with Triple-A Columbus on Friday and could wind up returning with another team. The 29-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season after extension talks with the Indians this spring broke down. Masterson has put up a disappointing 5.51 ERA through 19 starts in his walk year, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him have a nice second half if his knee is right.

Thu Jul 17 201419:56Masterson to begin rehab assignment Sunday
Justin Masterson (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Columbus on Sunday.
That's assuming he gets through a bullpen session on Thursday with no issues. Masterson was placed on the disabled list earlier this month with a right knee injury that's been bothering him since his second start of the season. He shouldn't need more than 1-2 rehab starts before rejoining the Indians' rotation.

Wed Jul 2 201401:40Masterson hits showers early in ND vs. LA
In his return to the rotation, Justin Masterson (knee) allowed three runs and lasted just three innings in Tuesday's no-decision against the Dodgers.
Masterson, whose Sunday start was skipped, was cleared to rejoin the rotation after throwing a pain-free bullpen session Saturday. Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway complimented Masterson's velocity, command and movement in that session. Tonight, he was all over the place, striking out seven but walking three and coughing up seven hits, including a homer. He was yanked after 85 pitches. The right-hander is coming off an inconsistent month in which he logged a 1.42 ERA to win his first two starts of June, but limped to an 0-1 record with a 7.62 ERA in his last three outings. Masterson (4-5, 5.16 ERA) hosts the Yankees next week.
