Gavin Floyd (elbow) will throw live batting practice on Wednesday.
It will be the first time he's thrown to hitters since last May's Tommy John and flexor muscle surgery. Floyd has already thrown plenty from the mound and incorporated all his pitches, and this is the next step in the rehab process. The Braves are hoping he'll be ready to join their rotation in mid-to-late May.

Tue Dec 17 201311:03Report: Floyd left money on table for Braves
Gavin Floyd turned down a bigger offer from the Orioles to sign with the Braves, according to the Baltimore Sun.
The 30-year-old inked a one-year, $4 million contract with Atlanta on Monday. Baltimore countered with a two-year offer that could have been worth up to $20 million with incentives. The Orioles insisted on the second year because Floyd isn't expected to be healthy until May. Floyd, who posted a 4.22 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over seven years with the White Sox, will attempt to rebuild his value in 2014 and try out free agency again next winter.

The 30-year-old right-hander will try to rebuild his value once he makes it back. He had a 4.22 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in his seven years with the White Sox.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that Gavin Floyd could complete a deal with the Braves by Monday.
David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported on Saturday that a deal between the two was close. The particulars of the contract are not yet known. Floyd is coming off surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament and a torn flexor tendon in his elbow, but he's hoping to be major league-ready by mid-May.

Sat Dec 14 201317:37Braves closing in on deal with Gavin Floyd
David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is hearing the Braves and Gavin Floyd are close to an agreement.
The Braves haven't been rumored to be in on Floyd, with O'Brien identifying them as the "mystery team" reported previously. There's no word on the terms of a possible deal, but a one-year deal is likely with Floyd still recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Braves were said to be interested in Jeff Samardzija as well, so this deal may effectively take them out of the running for the Cubs' ace.

Tue Nov 19 201318:13Orioles monitoring Gavin Floyd's progress
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have been monitoring Gavin Floyd's progress from his elbow surgeries.
Floyd underwent surgery in early May to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow. He was originally given a 14-19 month timetable to return, but Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors reported Tuesday that Floyd should be cleared around early December to resume throwing off a mound. Floyd is from the Baltimore area and would make for a nice gamble on a one-year, incentive-laden deal.

Fri Oct 25 201308:49Gavin Floyd activated from DL
White Sox activated RHP Gavin Floyd from the 60-day disabled list.
It's just a procedural move to get him back on the 40-man roster. Floyd is an impending free agent and will miss most of the 2014 campaign after having a pair of surgeries on his right elbow in May.

Wed May 8 201318:24Gavin Floyd has successful surgery
Gavin Floyd underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament and flexor muscle in his right elbow.
The surgeon told the White Sox that the operation "could not have gone better." However, since he needed two major areas operated on, the recovery is expected to be 14-19 months rather than the standard 12 months for Tommy John surgery. With that timetable, Floyd probably shouldn't be counted on for a whole lot in 2014. He'll be a free agent over the winter.

Mon May 6 201314:38Gavin Floyd will undergo Tommy John surgery
Gavin Floyd needs Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and is expected to miss the next 14-19 months.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported the news this weekend and it was confirmed by the White Sox on Monday. Floyd will be out for the remainder of the 2013 season and a large chunk of the 2014 campaign. He had a 5.18 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 25/12 K/BB ratio in 24 1/3 innings this year before injuring both his flexor muscle and ulnar collateral ligament in late April. Floyd, 30, will be a free agent in November.

Fri May 3 201313:04Gavin Floyd likely needs Tommy John surgery
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that Gavin Floyd "tentatively" plans to have Tommy John surgery.
The main issue with Floyd's elbow is a tear of his flexor muscle. However, his ulnar collateral ligament is also unstable, and if a doctor just went in to operate on his flexor muscle, there's a good chance the ligament would be damaged further. Floyd will receive a third opinion on Monday, but, barring a surprise, expect him to have season-ending surgery.

Thu May 2 201323:20Second opinion confirms elbow tear for Floyd
A second opinion on Gavin Floyd's right elbow has confirmed a tear of his flexor muscle.
He will get a third opinion from Dr. David Altchek on Monday in New York. Floyd admitted Thursday that surgery is a possibility, and it seems likely that he'll have an operation if Altchek offers a similar diagnosis. If Floyd does go under the knife, it will probably end his season.

Thu May 2 201312:14Floyd seeking multiple opinions about elbow
Gavin Floyd is seeking multiple medical opinions on the status of his strained right elbow.
Floyd has officially been diagnosed with a flexor muscle strain in his right elbow and was placed on the 15-day disabled list earlier this week. An MRI taken Saturday ruled out any major structural damage, but this is the right-hander's third elbow injury in the past 11 months and he is hoping to finally get some useful answers.
