LF Rafael Ortega is taking advantage of an opportunity brought on by the left knee injury to LF Daniel Nava. Ortega is hitting .412 (7 for 17) in his last five games, and is hitting .276 overall, batting in the No. 2 spot ahead of CF Mike Trout. Ortega also is tied for the major league lead with three outfield assists, even though he's played in just eight games.

CF Rafael Ortega started at the position for the first time in four years Monday night. Ortega made his last start in center field in 2012 for the Colorado Rockies. At the plate, Ortega collected two infield singles in four at-bats to raise his average to .280 (7-for-25).

PH Rafael Ortega collected his first career pinch-hit and first career pinch-hit RBI in the eighth inning Wednesday to drive in Kole Calhoun.

OF Rafael Ortega was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake City to take Nava's spot on the roster. Ortega was in the lineup in left field for the Angels on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and a stolen base.

Ortega was designated for assignment Monday.

The Cardinals claimed Ortega off waivers over the winter, but in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, he will now pass through the waiver process again.
