Fri Feb 10 202313:152023 NBA Trade Deadline Breakdown - Fantasy Basketball Impacts
The NBA trade deadline has officially come and gone and we had one of the most active deadlines in recent memory with some big stars being dealt. Kyrie, KD, and Westbrook are all heading to new teams and we have been covering those trades and their fantasy impacts here at RotoBaller. But there were plenty of other lesser-known players who were dealt in the last few days and I wanted to go through and make sure we don't overlook some of these trades as some of those deals may even have more fantasy impact than the big moves. So here are some other trades that went down and my two cents on the increase or decrease in value that we should expect from the players involved for the remainder of the 2022-2023 fantasy basketball season.

Moves That Matter

These are very much in order of how much they matter. Let's start with the Spurs sending their starting center back up North where he started his career.Jakob Poeltl to the RaptorsI am a huge Poeltl fan and was close to acquiring him on multiple teams before the deadline. It was a curious move by Toronto to be buyers instead of sellers at the deadline, but Poeltl gives them the presence at the five they have been lacking all season and allows Siakam to shift over and play PF where he belongs.Poeltl is no longer a shutdown candidate and has legit top-50 upside with his multi-category abilities. His departure also makes ... [More]
Thu Feb 9 202323:29Kevin Durant Traded to Suns - Fantasy Basketball Impact
As hectic as this year's NBA trade deadline has been, with 28 out of the 30 teams making at least one trade, early Thursday morning at 1:00 am, a blockbuster trade went down that not many expected. However, if you had read my previous article, you could have gotten a glimpse of the future thanks to my magic ball, as the first "potential trade" I wrote about was sending Kevin Durant to none other than the Pheonix Suns.Kevin Durant is undeniably a top-three player and arguably even the best in the NBA right now. It's not surprising to hear how stunned the NBA world was after seeing this trade, as the Suns sold a huge chunk of their future for the Nets superstar but were somehow saved from involving Deandre Ayton in the trade!Any average NBA fan knows how much of an impact future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant has on any team, but to emphasize just how much, check this out: The Suns went from odds of +1800 of winning the finals to +450 on Thursday morning after the huge trade, now only behind the Boston Celtics, who lead the race with their odds being +350.

Kevin Durant's Season Recap

Durant (knee) has been sidelined for over a month after getting hurt on January 8 against the Miami Heat and remains without a timetable to return to make his debut with the Suns. Before getting hurt, the 13-time All-Star was averaging 29.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.8 steals, 1.8 blocks, and 36 minutes in 39 appearances this season.
Thu Feb 2 202308:02James Harden Comes Just Shy Of Triple-Double In Win
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden was just one rebound shy of a triple-double in the team's 105-94 win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. He ended the game with 26 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, and one steal while shooting 7-for-13 from the floor, 6-for-10 from deep, and 6-for-7 from the line. His seven turnovers weren't the best for fantasy managers in category leagues but higher turnover numbers are expected. Harden continues to enjoy a resurgence in both fantasy terms and his career.

Sat Jan 21 202320:54James Harden Won't Play Against Sacramento
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden (foot) won't play on Saturday versus Sacramento. The 33-year-old will get the night off to rest the right foot injury that held him out for nearly a month. Without Harden on the floor, De'Anthony Melton may take his spot in the lineup. Melton has started 33 times throughout the 2022-23 campaign, averaging 11.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 steals, giving him plenty of upside for fantasy managers against the Kings.

Fri Jan 20 202309:35James Harden Bags Another Triple-Double In Win
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden collected his fourth triple-double of the season in a 10-point win over the Portland Trail Blazers. The 33-year-old registered 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 14 assists on 6-for-11 shooting and 3-for-4 from the line. While Harden's scoring isn't what it used to be, his all-around contributions have still made him very valuable in every fantasy format. Historically, he's put up better stats in February and March rather than January which could really help push some fantasy managers into the playoffs.

Sun Jan 15 202307:59James Harden Tallies 31 Points, 11 Assists Versus Utah
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden posted his fifth consecutive double-double in Saturday's matchup against Utah, helping the team to a narrow 118-117 victory. His final assist came when Joel Embiid hit the game-winner with 5.1 seconds left on the game clock. Before helping Embiid to ice the game, Harden scored 18 points in the fourth quarter himself. He was 11-for-19 from the field for the night and shot 4-for-10 from deep, adding six rebounds to his tally. The Beard's shot tends to go missing on some nights, but he has recorded at least 11 assists in five straight contests and the run includes two triple-doubles. It's been extremely difficult to keep him quiet, and the L.A. teams will get to find out exactly how hard it is next.

Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden had his playmaking ability on full display but still suffered a 19-point blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. The former MVP ended the game with 24 points, 15 assists, six rebounds, one steal, and seven turnovers while hitting six of his 13 shots and five of his 10 attempts from beyond the arc. Despite some of his best playmaking efforts, the Sixers could not match the offensive firepower of the Thunder who made 51.2% of their shots. Sat Dec 31 202219:17James Harden Resting On Saturday
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden (rest) won't suit up for Saturday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The superstar guard will sit this game out due to rest management because of his right foot issue. His absence should mean an increased workload for Shake Milton and De'Anthony Melton on Saturday. Both players should be considered strong streaming options with Harden on the sideline. The expectation is that Harden will return for their next contest.

Fri Dec 23 202223:06James Harden Compiles Career-High 21 Assists Versus Clippers
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden accumulated 20 points in the win over the Los Angeles Clippers. He also had a career-high 21 assists while adding 11 rebounds and a steal. Harden has only scored less than 19 points twice in his eight contests since returning from a lengthy layoff. Although his shooting percentages haven't been the best, fantasy managers will accept it as long as he continues to contribute in other areas. The Sixers have now won their last seven games, so Harden and company will look to stay hot against the Knicks on Christmas.

Wed Dec 14 202212:52James Harden Dishes Out 15 Assists On Tuesday
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden put his playmaking ability on full display on Tuesday night. The veteran star finished the 20-point blowout win with 21 points, 15 assists, seven rebounds, and five steals on 7-for-13 shooting and 4-for-7 from deep. His six turnovers weren't a great part of the game, but when he provides a near triple-double with five steals, that can be overlooked. Over the last three games, Harden has averaged a crazy 14.3 assists per game. While his assists are up from last season, his turnovers are down and his shooting percentages are going up too. Harden has been an elite fantasy option when healthy.

Mon Dec 12 202207:55James Harden Hands Out 16 Dimes
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden kept the offense ticking with 16 assists in Sunday's 131-113 win over Charlotte. His playmaking almost resulted in a triple-double as well, with him scoring 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting and grabbing nine rebounds. Harden, who was 3-for-8 with the three-ball, also had one block and posted four turnovers in 38 minutes. The Beard had an awful night in his return from injury against Houston on Dec. 5, but he has since then recorded back-to-back games with double-digit assists while averaging 23.5 points. Harden has been bagging 22.2 points and 10.4 assists for the whole campaign with 6.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals, so he's been quietly having a very good season, while Joel Embiid has taken the center stage.

Tue Dec 6 202207:59James Harden Struggles In His Comeback Game
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden didn't have a happy return to the lineup on Monday, shooting just 4-for-19 from the field and settling for 21 points in a 132-123 loss to the Rockets. His only makes came from downtown with 11 attempts, and the Beard notched nearly half of his points at the foul line with a 9-for-10 effort. His line also included four rebounds, seven assists, two steals and seven turnovers in 38 minutes. This was actually a dream spot for Harden to stuff the stat sheet, as the game needed double overtime to decide the winner, but he simply couldn't shake off the rust after sitting out a month with a tendon strain in his right foot. He should start to get better with each outing now, and fantasy managers have plenty to look forward to, as Harden looked great on the court prior to his injury.

Sun Dec 4 202215:13James Harden On Pace To Play Monday
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden (foot) said after Sunday's practice that he's on pace to play in Monday's game against the Houston Rockets. The superstar guard has been sidelined since November 3rd due to a right foot sprain. There is no word on whether or not Harden will be limited during his first game back. Regardless, fantasy managers should make sure to get Harden in their lineups if he's active. De'Anthony Melton and Shake Milton will take a hit in fantasy value with Harden returning to the roster. However, the Sixers are still banged up, so both Melton and Milton should continue getting significant playing time.

Thu Nov 3 202215:00James Harden Ruled Out For A Month
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden (foot) has been ruled out of action for a month. The Beard has been diagnosed with a right foot tendon strain. The news comes after Joel Embiid (illness) sat out for the third time in four games Wednesday against Washington. It's currently unclear if Embiid is able to return Friday against the Knicks. Either way, Tyrese Maxey is set for a huge role going forward, and Harden's absence will also boost De'Anthony Melton's fantasy stock, although he missed Wednesday's game with a back problem and might need some time to recover.

Tue Nov 1 202208:58James Harden Matches Career High With 17 Assists
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden assisted everybody and their mother Monday night against Washington, matching his career high with 17 assists in a 118-111 road win. He added 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting to complete his fourth double-double of the campaign and registered seven rebounds with two steals and four turnovers in 38 minutes. The Beard might not be as an active scorer as he used to be anymore, but he remains a very productive player for fantasy teams and his playmaking can be godly at times. The Wizards will be in trouble against Harden again Wednesday night. Joel Embiid (illness) might be back for that one as well, which will drop De'Anthony Melton from the starting unit. He had 16 points in Monday's win, while Tyrese Maxey continued his hot stretch with a 28-point effort.

Mon Oct 24 202222:10James Harden Still Searching For First Triple-Double
Philadelphia 76ers guard James Harden has been dominant to start the year, narrowly missing a triple-double in Monday's win over the Indiana Pacers. Harden finished with 29 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds, five three-pointers and two steals in 35 minutes. Harden's flirted with a triple-double in all of his game's this year as head coach Doc Rivers continues to use him in a Magic Johnson-like role. Harden is looking like a steal at his late first round ADP, but has a tough match up with his next opponent. The Toronto Raptors allow the second-fewest points and third-fewest assists to opposing guards this season.
