Mon Mar 26 2012 | 22:41 | Ryan Theriot sent for X-rays on nose |
Ryan Theriot was sent for X-rays after being hit in the face by a pickoff throw Monday. |
Theriot left Monday's gave after a pickoff throw bounced off his glove and hit him in the face. Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said that while the 32-year-old infielder was "bleeding profusely," he didn't think his nose was broken. We should learn more about his status on Tuesday. |

Fri Jan 27 2012 | 12:58 | Ryan Theriot agrees to deal with Giants |
Giants signed SS Ryan Theriot to a one-year contract. |
The deal was reported earlier and has now been confirmed by the club. CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the contract is for $1.25 million, with $750,000 more possible in incentives, but it's interesting to note that the deal is not guaranteed. But, barring something unforeseen, Theriot should make the Opening Day roster and is probably the favorite to start over Brandon Crawford. He produced an unimpressive .271/.321/.342 batting line with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances in 2011 for St. Louis. |

Fri Jan 27 2012 | 12:06 | Heyman: Giants sign veteran Ryan Theriot |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Giants have signed free agent infielder Ryan Theriot to a one-year deal. |
Heyman says he'll receive $1.25 million guaranteed, with a possible $750,000 more in incentives. It's probably the best possible landing spot for Theriot, as he's likely the favorite to start at shortstop over Brandon Crawford. The problem is that he can't really play shortstop anymore and hit an unimpressive .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances in 2011 for the World Champion Cardinals. |

Wed Jan 11 2012 | 14:51 | Report: Reds, Rays interest in Ryan Theriot |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Reds and Rays are in on free agent infielder Ryan Theriot. |
Theriot wouldn't start for either team, but he could be useful as a backup middle infielder. The 32-year-old was non-tendered by the Cardinals last month after batting .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances in 2011. He has a .775 career OPS against left-handed pitching. |

Mon Jan 2 2012 | 21:41 | Braves' interest in Ryan Theriot 'overstated' |
David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution suggests that the Braves' reported interest in free agent infielder Ryan Theriot is "overstated." |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported last week that the Braves were one of the clubs interested in Theriot, but O'Brien suspects that the club wants a stronger defender to back up rookie Tyler Pastornicky at shortstop. Additionally, he writes there's a "decent chance" the Braves could wait to see who becomes available during spring training. As for Theriot, he has also reportedly drawn interest from the Reds, Mets and Rays in recent weeks. |

Fri Dec 30 2011 | 13:33 | Reds have Ryan Theriot on the backburner |
Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said he's had conversations with Ryan Theriot's representatives, but the two sides aren't close to a deal. |
"We're trying to get a hitter first," Jocketty said. What the GM is saying is that the Reds are eying an upgrade to their outfield first, with Theriot sitting on the back burner. The Braves, Rays and Mets have also been mentioned as potential landing spots for the free agent infielder. |

Thu Dec 29 2011 | 12:46 | Braves, Rays, Mets interested in Theriot |
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Braves, Rays and Mets are among the teams interested in free agent Ryan Theriot. |
Theriot probably wouldn't be guaranteed a starting role on any of those teams, but all three could certainly use another infielder. The 32-year-old was non-tendered by the Cardinals earlier this month after batting just .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances in 2011. Troy Renck of the Denver Post reported earlier this week that the Rockies also have interest. |

Wed Dec 28 2011 | 08:51 | Report: Rockies have interest in Ryan Theriot |
Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies have some interest in free agent Ryan Theriot. |
The Rockies are currently projected to have some combination of Jonathan Herrera, Chris Nelson and D.J. LeMahieu at second base next season, but they are also considering some more experienced alternatives. Theriot, 32, was non-tendered by the Cardinals earlier this month after batting just .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances this past season. The level of their interest isn't clear and it's not known whether negotiations have actually taken place. |

Tue Dec 13 2011 | 00:03 | Cardinals non-tender INF Ryan Theriot |
Cardinals non-tendered INF Ryan Theriot. |
As expected, especially after the Cardinals agreed to a two-year deal with Skip Schumaker. Theriot, 32, batted just .271/.321/.342 with one home run, 47 RBI, four stolen bases and a .662 OPS over 483 plate appearances this past season. The Astros are among the teams who could have interest now that he's a free agent. |

Sat Dec 10 2011 | 12:42 | Report: Astros could pursue Ryan Theriot |
According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Astros could pursue Ryan Theriot if the Cardinals decide to non-tender him. |
The Cardinals are reportedly not satisfied with Theriot's defense and are committed to Daniel Descalso as their starting second baseman next season. The fact that they recently selected Erik Komatsu in the Rule 5 draft also indicates his return is unlikely. In addition to the Astros, Heyman suggests that the Mets, Braves, Reds, Blue Jays and Royals might have interest. |

Fri Oct 28 2011 | 16:02 | Ryan Theriot at 2B, hitting leadoff in Game 7 |
Ryan Theriot is starting at second base and hitting leadoff for Friday's Game 7 of the World Series. |
We figured Theriot would get the start against left-hander Matt Harrison, but the bigger news is that he supplanted Rafael Furcal in the leadoff spot. It's not a surprise, though, as Furcal has really scuffled during the series. He's down to the No. 7 spot in the order. Allen Craig, as expected, is starting in left field for Matt Holliday and is batting second. Skip Schumaker gets the call again in center field over Jon Jay. |

Sat Oct 22 2011 | 16:07 | Theriot starting at second base in WS Game 3 |
Ryan Theriot is starting at second base Saturday in Game 3 of the World Series against the Cardinals. |
Nick Punto is the better defensive option, but Theriot is a solid singles hitter against left-handed pitchers and the Rangers are starting southpaw Matt Harrison. Lance Berkman is serving as the Cards' DH and Allen Craig is playing right field. |

Sun Oct 9 2011 | 12:28 | Theriot starting at 2B |
Ryan Theriot is starting at second base for the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLCS. |
With Skip Schumaker (oblique) unavailable, Theriot and Nick Punto will share time at second base, and it's Theriot that gets the first shot. Jon Jay is also back in center field after not starting Game 5 of the NLDS. |

Wed Oct 5 2011 | 05:24 | Theriot goes off for 4 hits in Game 3 of NLDS |
Following an inspired two-hit performance in Game 2 of the NLDS, Ryan Theriot collected four singles and stole a base in Tuesday's Game 3 loss to the Phillies. |
To put this in perspective, Theriot's last multi-hit game came on August 28. The career .282 hitter has batted seventh each of the last two games. But keep in mind that he led off in 87 games this year. While Rafael Furcal was acquired to set the table, don't be surprised if manager Tony La Russa shuffles his lineup facing elimination on Wednesday. |

Mon Oct 3 2011 | 00:10 | Cardinals rally to even series with Phillies |
Ryan Theriot smacked a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in a run to help the Cardinals beat the Phillies 5-4 on Sunday night and even the NLDS series at 1-1. |
Theriot also gutted it out after a pair of harsh collisions at second base, the latter of which came in the eighth inning, when Chase Utley took him out to avoid a double-play throw. The Cardinals trailed 4-0 in the second inning and took out starter Chris Carpenter after the third, but were able to rally back in Philadelphia thanks to five unanswered runs scored and six shutout innings thrown by a combination of six relievers. Game Three is scheduled for Tuesday in St. Louis, with Jaime Garcia squaring off against Cole Hamels. |
