McFarland was optioned to short-season Aberdeen on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

The procedural move allows the Orioles to activate the newly-acquired Alejandro De Aza, who will be available off the bench Sunday. McFarland will return to the Orioles on Tuesday, when Aberdeen's season will have been completed.

McFarland will be activated from the bereavement list Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

McFarland has been out since Sunday, but as expected, he'll be back with the Orioles for Thursday's series finale against the Angels. The team has yet to announce a corresponding roster move.
