Wed Nov 26 201413:49Rodriguez designated for assignment by Tampa Bay
Rodriguez has been designated for assignment by Tampa Bay.
Rodriguez struggled down the stretch of last season, which likely influenced the Rays' decision to demote him during the offseason. He will now be placed on waivers, but if Rodriguez goes unclaimed, he will be free to sign with any team or accept his assignment to triple-A.
Thu Sep 11 201409:46Rodriguez 1-3 with double in Wednesday's loss to Yankees
Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a double in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees.
Rodriguez ended an 0-for-14 skid with a fourth-inning double in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Yankees. The 29-year-old utility man has seen his playing time drastically dwindle over the last couple of weeks and figures to provide little fantasy value the rest of the way.

Rodriguez went 0-for-3 with a stolen base -- his second of the season -- while starting at third base Saturday in a win over the Angels.
The Rays' right-handed hitting utility man continues to rack up time at a variety of different positions, as he's now been used around the infield, in left field, and as the Rays' DH at various points in 2014. Most of his value comes from the pop he offers when he plays (mostly against lefties), as he's slugging .497 with 10 homers on the season despite a .230 average and .284 OBP.
Tue May 27 201422:19Rodriguez's 3 RBI not enough in loss to Jays
Sean Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, RBI triple, and a sacrifice fly in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
Rodriguez now has back-to-back three-RBI games, having knocked in a trio on Sunday against the Red Sox as well. While Rodriguez has left a lot to be desired in the on-base department, he has delivered a ton of power, as evidenced by his .250/.284/.592 slash line in 82 plate appearances.

Sun May 25 201418:17Rodriguez has PH three-run home run Sunday
Sean Rodriguez hit a pinch-hit, three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Red Sox.
With left-hander Craig Breslow on the hill, Rodriguez pinch hit for Matt Joyce and tagged a Breslow pitch to deep left to break a 3-3 tie. The homer was his team-leading sixth of the season, and he's slugging .548 in 73 at-bats. The Rays may try to find more ways to get his bat in the lineup with the offense -- relative to a struggling Rays team, at least -- he's provided to this point.

Sun May 25 201416:57Sean Rodriguez ejected in altercation Sunday
Sean Rodriguez was also ejected in Sunday's bench-clearing altercation with the Red Sox.
Jonny Gomes and teammate Yunel Escobar were also tossed for their roles in the incident. Rodriguez contributed a pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning before he was given the gate.

Thu May 22 201420:21Sean Rodriguez hits walkoff homer for Rays
Sean Rodriguez hit a walkoff homer in the 11th as the Rays beat the A's 5-2 on Thursday.
The three-run shot was Rodriguez's first walkoff as a major leaguer. He has five homers in just 68 at-bats this season, but he also has a .235 average and a .278 OBP, which is why he wasn't playing a whole lot prior to the Ben Zobrist injury. He'll likely go back to starting mostly against left-handers once Zobrist returns next week.

Thu May 1 201423:24Sean Rodriguez homers, doubles twice
Sean Rodriguez had a homer, two doubles and three runs scored to lead the Rays past the Red Sox 6-5 in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.
Rodriguez has just eight hits this season, but among them are four homers and three doubles. As a result, he's batting .235 and slugging .670. The Rays don't have any good way to get him at-bats against righties while everyone else is healthy, so he'll continue mostly playing against lefties for now. It leaves him with only a little value in AL-only leagues.

Thu Apr 17 201422:56Sean Rodriguez grounds into triple play
Sean Rodriguez grounded into a triple play and homered in an eventful night Thursday against the Yankees.
It was the second time in his career that he's grounded into a triple play. Rodriguez was making his first start in 10 days, as the Rays currently have too many right-handed hitters looking for platoonmates. Rodriguez is certainly worth starting against lefties and he can play just about everywhere, but the Rays also want Logan Forsythe and Brandon Guyer in there against lefties and there isn't room for all of them. Ideally, they would trade Rodriguez and replace him with a lefty bat for the bench.

Wed Mar 19 201408:39Rodriguez (hamstring) returns to Rays' lineup
Sean Rodriguez (hamstring) returned to the Rays' lineup on Wednesday.
The veteran utilityman has been suffering from a tight left hamstring. Rodriguez, who slashed .246/.320/.385 with five homers over 96 games for the Rays last season, is hitting just .188 (3-for-16) with a homer and two steals in Grapefruit League play. The 28-year-old's positional versatility makes him a decent late-round target in AL-only leagues.

Sat Dec 7 201313:01Marlins considering trade for Sean Rodriguez
Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Marlins have discussed internally the possibility of trading for Sean Rodriguez to fill their void at third base.
The Rays are known to have interest in Logan Morrison, whom the Marlins are expected to deal, so the two teams could easily line up for trade purposes. The 28-year-old Rodriguez, who has been known to destroy left-handed pitching, is a career .228/.304/.360 hitter.

Fri Oct 4 201319:11Sean Rodriguez homers in loss to Red Sox
Sean Rodriguez, who has made a habit of crushing left-handed pitching, smashed a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALDS.
Rodriguez got the start in left field due to his ability to crush southpaws, and didn't disappoint by depositing a Jon Lester offering over the wall in left-center to open the scoring in the second inning. Unfortunately for the Rays, it was one of only two runs they would generate in the game, the other coming on a solo blast from Ben Zobrist.

Sun Sep 8 201321:01Sean Rodriguez drives in game-winning run
Sean Rodriguez went 1-for-2 and drove in the game-winning run in Sunday's 4-1 victory over the Mariners.
The Rays entered the eighth inning trailing 1-0 before James Loney tagged Yoervis Medina with an RBI double and Rodriguez followed with an RBI single to put the Rays on top for good. The 28-year-old role player is hitting .247/.316/.356 with three homers and 19 RBI on the year.

Mon Jul 1 201323:55Sean Rodriguez goes 4-for-6
Sean Rodriguez had four hits, including two doubles, and three RBI against the Astros on Monday.
That as many hits as he had for the entire month of June. Rodriguez has only been getting one or two starts per week this year, and Wil Myers' arrival has done nothing to help that. He won't have any fantasy value unless he forces the Rays to play him more.

Sun Jun 16 201303:16UTIL Rodriguez has just one hit since May 26
Sean Rodriguez has just one hit since May 26.
It came on June 11, his only start of the month. Rodriguez has multi-position eligibility and a decent .246/.342/.406 slash line through 69 at-bats, but he doesn't play enough to be relevant in most formats.

Sat Mar 16 201317:01Sean Rodriguez homers versus Red Sox
Sean Rodriguez went 2-for-2 with a two-run homer Saturday against the Red Sox.
Rodriguez homered off Alfredo Aceves in the third and then was hit by the right-hander next time up. It was a splitter that hit him, so it seems unlikely that it was intentional, but there was some jawing afterwards and Rodriguez nearly charged the mound from first base. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed.
