Sun Aug 4 201311:29Tony Sipp designated for assignment
Diamondbacks designated LHP Tony Sipp for assignment.
Sipp has been up and down this season, posting a 3.86 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. He's struck out over a batter per inning, though, and was pretty good the previous two years for the Indians. The southpaw is sure to draw some interest on waivers.

Tue May 21 201303:09RP Tony Sipp may be in line for regression
Tony Sipp's walk rate (6.0) and strike-to-walk rate (1.38) are the highest and lowest of his career, respectively.
Sipp's only pitched 12 inning over 18 appearances, so it's not time for Kirk Gibson to panic, but the left-hander will be playing with fire if he can't iron out his control issues. His 3.75 ERA is better than last season's 4.42, but Sipp's peripherals suggest that he was a better hurler in 2012. The improvement in ERA is entirely tied to Sipp keeping the ball in play. He's surrendered only one bomb after giving up nine last year.

Thu Jan 17 201318:10D'Backs avoid arbitration with Tony Sipp
Diamondbacks and LHP Tony Sipp avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $1.275 million contract.
It's a nice score for the 29-year-old left-hander, who posted a 4.42 ERA and 51/23 K/BB ratio across 55 innings in 2012 while earning close to the major league minimum. He was arbitration-eligible for the first time.

Tue Dec 11 201221:53Tony Sipp lands in the desert
Diamondbacks acquired LHP Tony Sipp from the Indians in a three-team trade.
Though he posted a 4.42 ERA in 2012, Sipp has been a largely reliable reliever for the Indians over the last four seasons, compiling a 3.68 ERA and 1.26 WHIP while striking out just over a batter per inning. He's held left-handed batters to a .215/.292/.414 line in his career, but he's not a specialist, as righties have hit just .209/.324/.403 off him. Sipp will help set up for J.J. Putz.

Wed Aug 17 201100:04Sipp ejected from Tuesday's game
Tony Sipp was ejected from Tuesday's game against the White Sox in the bottom of the 10th inning.
Sipp was already leaving the game at the time, but he had some words for first base umpire Wally Bell, who called Alejandro De Aza safe on a bunt single on the previous play. He allowed two hits over one-third of an inning before being replaced by Chris Perez.

Sat Jul 2 201110:26Sipp, Pestano to share closing duties
Indians manager Manny Acta said Vinnie Pestano and Tony Sipp will share the closer duties until Chris Perez returns from the bereavement list.
Perez left the team before Friday's game after the death of his grandmother. He's expected to be back with the team Sunday, but the bereavement list rules say a player must stay on the list for at least three days, so he won't be available until Monday. Sipp (2.41 ERA, 0.89 WHIP) and Pestano (1.52 ERA, 0.88 WHIP) have both been fantastic this season.

Fri Feb 18 201118:31Indians will mix and match in 8th inning
Indians manager Manny Acta said his plan is to mix and match with Tony Sipp, Rafael Perez and Joe Smith in the eighth inning until someone "grabs that job and runs away with it."
It's worth noting for those in leagues that count holds, as well as those that feel the need to get closer insurance for Chris Perez. Sipp is the most intriguing name of the three, having posted a 10.2 K/9 rate over his two seasons. The side-arming Smith almost exclusively faces right-handed batters and Perez is coming off back-to-back disappointing seasons.
