Jarrod Parker turned in his fourth straight quality start Tuesday, allowing two runs over seven innings in a defeat of the Giants.
Parker got a nice lead tonight, with the A's scoring four times between the second and third innings on their way to winning 6-3. It's the fourth time this year that he's gone without allowing a home run. The A's are 4-0 in those games and 1-6 in the other seven.

Another solid outing for Parker, even if he did allow two homers. He's turned in three straight quality starts, and he has a 22/9 K/BB ratio in four turns this month after finish April with an 18/16 K/BB ratio in six starts.

Sat May 18 201300:57Jarrod Parker goes seven strong against KC
Jarrod Parker pitched seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the Royals on Friday.
The A's didn't go ahead until the bottom of the eighth, so Parker was denied the win after his best performance so far this season. He struck out five and walked two tonight. After opening up 0-4 with an 8.10 ERA, he's 2-1 with a 4.07 ERA his last four times out.

Sun May 12 201300:32Jarrod Parker goes 6 1/3 innings in win
Jarrod Parker yielded three runs in 6 1/3 innings Saturday in a victory over the Mariners.
We were guessing Parker would be optioned out when Brett Anderson returned, but his nice outing tonight, combined with Dan Straily's poor one Friday, will probably keep him in the rotation for now. At 2-5 with a 6.86 ERA, he remains a shaky play in fantasy leagues.

Thu May 9 201315:27Jarrod Parker (neck) will make his next start
A's manager Bob Melvin said Thursday that Jarrod Parker (neck) will be fine for his next start.
Parker left his previous outing with a neck strain, but he's felt fine all this week and was officially cleared Thursday by Melvin and Co. The young right-hander has registered a highly disappointing 7.34 ERA and 1.98 WHIP in 34 1/3 innings (seven starts) this season. He'll try for better Saturday against the Mariners.

Tue May 7 201319:49Melvin doesn't think Parker will miss start
Athletics manager Bob Melvin doesn't think Jarrod Parker (neck) will miss his next start.
Parker has had ongoing neck issues this season and was forced from Monday's start early due to the injury. He's yet to miss a start because of the ailment, though, and Melvin anticipates the righty again being ready to take the ball. "I don't anticipate him missing his next start," Melvin said. "I mean, this is something he actually even dealt with last year at times. I've been wrong before, but he's not going to do anything today, and then play some catch tomorrow, and then hopefully go through his normal routine."

Tue May 7 201309:37Jarrod Parker (neck) uncertain for next start
Jarrod Parker (neck) is uncertain to make his next scheduled start.
Parker left Monday's start due to a neck strain, an issue which has bothered him on and off this season. The young right-hander said that he hasn't been able to get the proper extension on his delivery because of his neck, which could explain some of his early struggles and diminished velocity. If Parker heads to the disabled list, the A's would likely call up prospect right-hander Sonny Gray to take his place in the starting rotation.

Mon May 6 201322:33Jarrod Parker dealing with strained neck
Jarrod Parker had to leave Monday's start early due to a minor neck strain.
Parker has been nursing the injury for a while and thinks it could be affecting his location and possibly his velocity. The A's will monitor him over the next few days before determining whether he'll be able to make his next start. Parker has a 7.34 ERA and 1.98 WHIP for the season and might lose his rotation spot when Brett Anderson returns from the DL.

Mon May 6 201322:22Jarrod Parker gives up four homers in loss
Jarrod Parker yielded four runs -- all coming on solo homers -- in five innings Monday in a loss to the Indians.
Parker struck out a season-high seven tonight, so it wasn't all bad. Still, he's now allowed eight homers in 34 1/3 innings this year after giving up just 11 in 181 1/3 innings as a rookie. He's very much in danger of losing his rotation spot to Dan Straily once Brett Anderson returns.

Wed May 1 201302:15Jarrod Parker earns first win of 2013
Jarrod Parker notched his first victory on Tuesday after allowing four runs -- three earned -- in six innings against the Angels.
Parker walked three, threw two wild pitches and hit a batter, so this was hardly a sterling effort. Still, it was good enough on a night in which the A's offense came up with 10 runs. For Parker, it was just his second quality start in six tries. Still, he has made some progress; his ERA has dropped from 10.80 to 7.36 over his last three starts.

Fri Apr 26 201302:22Parker gives up six runs, suffers fourth loss
Jarrod Parker dropped to 0-4 on Thursday by giving up six runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Orioles.
Not what fantasy owners wanted to see after Parker tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball last time out. While he matched a season-high with five strikeouts, he was touched up for eight hits (including a home run) and walked three batters. Some thought Parker overachieved last season, but an 8.10 ERA wasn't the sort of regression we had in mind. He's scheduled to face the Angels next Tuesday in Oakland, but those in mixed leagues should consider leaving him inactive until he shows some consistency.

Jarrod Parker tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball Saturday in the A's loss to the Rays.
Finally some positive results from the young right-hander. Parker struck out five batters and scattered six hits, lowering his ERA from 10.80 to 7.50 and his WHIP from 2.66 to 2.17. He was solid throughout the 2012 season and will try to stay in a groove next week when he faces the Orioles.

Sun Apr 14 201320:26Parker's early season struggles continue
Jarrod Parker struggled mightily in Sunday's loss to the Tigers, allowing eight runs over 3 1/3 innings before being removed.
It was nearly identical to Parker's last start, except this time he wasn't able to escape with just two runs. While the Athletics remain committed to Parker in their rotation for now, his bad spring has carried over into the regular season. He needs to get back on track in a hurry with Dan Straily waiting in the minors.

Wed Apr 10 201302:20Jarrod Parker gets removed in fourth
Jarrod Parker was removed after allowing two runs in 3 1/3 innings Tuesday against the Angels.
On the one hand, Parker should have given up way more than two runs, considering that he allowed nine hits and walked three batters. On the other, the Oakland defense was simply abysmal in this one and could have done quite a bit more to help him. There's still more bad than good to take away from the outing, and Parker really hasn't displayed 2012 form at any point since the beginning of the spring. His owners should be sweating things a bit.

Wed Apr 3 201301:43Jarrod Parker gives up four runs to Mariners
Jarrod Parker gave up four runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Mariners.
Parker appeared to be dealing with a blister in the game, which would explain the off night. He struck out just one and walked three. Parker did post a 7.45 ERA this spring, but since those were Arizona stats with the ball flying out of parks and he walked just five batters in 19 1/3 innings, we weren't very concerned.

Sat Mar 23 201301:12Jarrod Parker strong against White Sox
Jarrod Parker delivered a strong effort against the White Sox on Friday, surrendering two runs on three hits over his six frames.
Parker whiffed five and walked two on the evening. It was nice to see him get back on track, as even with the solid outing he's still the owner of a 7.20 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 15 innings on the spring. He'll open the season as the number two starter for Oakland behind Brett Anderson, and will be looking to build upon a very impressive rookie campaign.

Mon Mar 11 201319:10Parker hammered in A's loss to Padres
Jarrod Parker was shelled for five earned runs over four innings Monday in the A's loss to the Padres.
Parker walked none and struck out two, but he yielded two home runs and is now sporting a 7.50 ERA in the Cactus League. Let's hope he's simply working on some things. Parker, 24, posted a superb 3.47 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 140/63 K/BB ratio in 181 1/3 innings last season.

Fri Mar 1 201319:54Jarrod Parker dazzles in Cactus League debut
Jarrod Parker looked incredibly sharp in his Cactus League debut on Friday, allowing just one hit in two scoreless innings against the Giants.
Parker punched out two in the strong outing. The 24-year-old right-hander will slot as the A's number two starter behind Brett Anderson and is looking to improve upon a fantastic rookie season in which he went 13-8 with a 3.47 ERA. He looks like a strong option as a third or fourth starter in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts.

Fri Oct 12 201200:48Jarrod Parker solid but not good enough
Jarrod Parker was charged with four runs over 6 1/3 frames in Thursday's loss to the Tigers.
He allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out six. Parker exited having given up just two runs, but he left two runners on and both of them came around to score. All told, it was a nice performance from the rookie right-hander, but he just couldn't match up with Justin Verlander.
