Torrealba was designated for assignment last week. The Rangers were unable to find a trade for him, so he will be given his outright release if he isn't claimed. The 34-year-old backstop is hitting just .236/.302/.342 with three homers and a .643 OPS in 49 games played this season.

According to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post, the Nationals and Rangers are expected to discuss Yorvit Torrealba on Tuesday.
Torrealba is expected to be designated for assignment by the Rangers on Tuesday following the acquisition of Geovany Soto from the Cubs. The 12-year veteran hit just .236/.302/.342 with three homers and 12 RBI in 49 games for the Rangers this season, but could bring solid defense and veteran leadership to the catcher-starved Nationals.

Torrealba left the team earlier this week to be with his wife, who gave birth to a baby girl on Tuesday. However, his flight will not land until close to gametime on Friday. The Rangers will have him on the restricted list for Friday's game, but he should be back Saturday.

Yorvit Torrealba will miss Texas' two-game set against the A's starting Tuesday to be with his wife, who is expecting a baby.
Torrealba will likely be placed on the paternity leave list to open a roster spot. Fortunately for the Rangers, Mike Napoli, who left Friday's game with a bruised quad and hasn't played since, is expected to return on Tuesday. "(Napoli) showed me (Saturday) that if I needed him in an emergency he could go," Rangers mananger Ron Washington said.

Yorvit Torrealba issued a statement Monday apologizing for attacking an umpire in the Venezuelan Winter League last week.
The statement read in full: "I wanted to express my sincere apologies to all parties for my actions during the Venezuelan Winter League game on Friday. I have extended an apology to the Rangers organization as well. I am embarrassed for my conduct, and personally relayed that feeling to the umpire after that night's game. On the field, I strive to be an example for children, especially those in my native Venezuela, and I regret my actions. I understand the reactions to the incident and will make every effort to set a positive example in the future." Torrealba was suspended for 66 games by the Venezuelan Winter League, but it's not clear if he'll be handed a punishment by the Rangers.

Torrelaba shoved home plate ump Dario Rivero Jr. in the face Friday after striking out. The full VWL schedule lasts 66 games, meaning the 33-year-old catcher is done for this season and won't be invited back next winter either. It's not yet known whether the Rangers plan to issue further discipline.

Yorvit Torrealba attacked home plate umpire Dario Rivero, Jr. during a game Friday afternoon in the Venezuelan Winter League.
Torrealba gave a shove to Rivero's face after striking out. The Rangers were made aware of the incident Friday evening and plan to investigate. "[We're] aware, but we haven't gotten much info yet," said Rangers general manager. "We will look into it." It's not clear what sort of punishment Torrealba could receive, either from the Venezuelan Winter League or the Rangers.

Yorvit Torrealba produced a rare offensive explosion Sunday, launching a solo shot and a grand slam in a win over the Mariners.
The backup catcher had the solo blast in the sixth and then followed it up with the grand slam just one inning later. He had two of four Rangers homers on the day, as Ian Kinsler and Adrian Beltre also went deep. Torrealba now has seven bombs of the year to go along with a .276 batting mark.
