Brandon Inge (groin) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Toledo.

Tue Apr 3 201211:58Inge (groin) to start at 2B vs. southpaws
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Tuesday that Brandon Inge (groin) will start at second base against left-handed pitching.
Inge was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with a left groin strain, but he's eligible to return on April 14. Ryan Raburn should still get the majority of the playing time at second base while Ramon Santiago will serve as a backup at both middle infield positions.

Tue Apr 3 201208:38Inge placed on DL with left groin strain
Tigers placed INF Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 30, with a left groin strain.
Inge believed he could be ready by Opening Day, but the Tigers didn't want to take the chance. He is eligible to return on April 14 and fully expects to be ready by then. Infielder Danny Worth and outfielders Andy Dirks and Clete Thomas have officially made the team while Drew Smyly will head down to Triple-A Toledo until he is needed on April 12.

Sun Apr 1 201221:10Inge (groin) could begin season on DL
Brandon Inge (groin) may begin the season on the disabled list.
Inge hasn't played since Thursday and skipper Jim Leyland wants to see him make it through a game before committing an Opening Day roster spot to him. Of course, playing in a major league spring training game would rob Detroit of the ability to backdate Inge's disabled list starting date. Because fifth-starter Drew Smyly will make a start at Triple-A Toledo before he's needed to make a start for the Tigers, Inge heading to the DL could mean that Andy Dirks, Clete Thomas and Danny Worth all make the roster. Stay tuned.

Fri Mar 30 201217:16Inge sidelined with groin injury
Brandon Inge was a late scratch from Friday's lineup due to a minor groin injury.
Inge suffered the injury while running out the batter's box when he grounded into a game-ending double play on Thursday. He received treatment Friday and is currently considered day-to-day. The 34-year-old is batting just .180 with a home run and two RBIs in 50 at-bats this spring as he attempts to win playing time at second base.

Sat Mar 10 201217:38Brandon Inge homers versus Nationals
Brandon Inge homered off John Lannan and walked Saturday against the Nationals.
The Tigers have gone well out of their way to talk up Inge's defense at second base this spring. No doubt they'd love to trade him, though that would involve picking up a significant portion of the $6 million he's still owed. If he stays around, he'll probably be part of the mix at second and he'll play third whenever Miguel Cabrera is put at DH.

Sat Mar 10 201209:56Leyland offers praise of Inge at second base
Tigers manager Jim Leyland agreed with recent comments by general manager Dave Dombrowski to MLB radio that Brandon Inge has been "phenomenal" at second base.

Sun Mar 4 201212:10Brandon Inge impresses at 2B
Brandon Inge impressed in Saturday's Grapefruit League opener at second base, making according to Tigers manager Jim Leyland "two real good plays."
In his first professional game at the position, Inge dove to snag a liner in the second inning and ranged far to his right in the fourth inning to turn a potential single into a fielder's choice. Leyland is on record as saying Inge "is going to be fine at second base" and the only question with him is whether he'll hit. If he does have a nice spring at the plate, he's a real option to start at second on Opening Day.

Fri Mar 2 201210:13Brandon Inge starts at 2B in spring opener
Brandon Inge will start at second base during the Tigers' Grapefruit League opener Saturday.
Just in case you didn't think Inge was a real option at the position. Ryan Raburn will start at second Sunday and might still be the favorite to be there on Opening Day, but the Tigers are giving Inge a real shot. John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press says Inge has "looked smooth and confident" at second base so far in camp.

Thu Feb 16 201216:59Inge to compete for Tigers' second base job
Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said Thursday that Brandon Inge will get a chance to compete for the starting second base job during spring training.
Leyland apparently wants to clinch having the worst infield defense of all-time. While Inge is known as a strong defender at the hot corner, he has never played an inning at second base during his entire professional career. The odds are against the 34-year-old making a smooth transition, but he'll apparently be thrown into the mix with Ryan Raburn, Ramon Santiago and Danny Worth.

Fri Jan 20 201209:41Brandon Inge wants to win 3B job outright
Brandon Inge wants to win the third base job outright rather than being in a platoon with Don Kelly.
"I love Kelly, I really do, but I'm not looking to platoon," Inge said. "I want to play every day." That's all well and good, but after batting just .197/.265/.283 this past season and being designated for assignment at one point, Inge can't expect to be given the everyday job. "I hope he can play every day at third," said manager Jim Leyland, "because if he is, it means he's producing. But he has to produce."

Fri Oct 14 201113:40Inge and Raburn to start Game 6
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn will both start Game 6 of the ALCS.
It's no surprise, as Raburn has started every game during the series and Inge has started every game but one. Delmon Young (oblique) is also expected to be fine to start, so Raburn should be in right field.

Wed Oct 12 201122:37Brandon Inge singles, homers
Brandon Inge singled and belted a game-tying solo homer in the seventh inning of the ALCS Game 4 loss to the Rangers.
Inge, the team's ninth-place hitter, was the lone Tiger to post a multi-hit game in the extra innings loss. It's his second multi-hit effort in three postseason starts, though he's still batting just .250 in eight playoff contests.

Sat Sep 10 201119:10Inge belts walkoff, Tigers win 8th straight
Brandon Inge belted a walkoff home run Saturday in the Tigers' 3-2 defeat of the Twins.
The Tigers have now won eight games in a row and suddenly boast a commanding 10-game lead in the American League Central standings. Inge still has a weak .194/.254/.278 batting line in 89 games this season, but he played the hero on Saturday evening in front of an ecstatic home crowd.

Sat Aug 20 201122:00Tigers' Inge homers in return to big leagues
Brandon Inge went 2-for-4 with a home run in his return to the major leagues Saturday against the Indians.
Inge was demoted to the minor leagues near the end of July after the Tigers grew tired with his lack of offensive production. He enjoyed some success in a three-week stay at Triple-A Toledo, and then carried that momentum back to big leagues on Saturday night. The 34-year-old veteran is expected to see semi-regular action at third base down the stretch.

Sat Aug 20 201119:24Inge starting for Tigers in first game back
Brandon Inge is starting at third base in his return to the Tigers on Saturday.
He's healthy after battling a lingering bout with mononucleosis and his time in the minors served him well, as he batted 287/.389/.519 with seven homers in 108 at-bats for Toledo. He's expected to draw plenty of playing time at third base against left-handed pitching and could get some starts against righties, as well. On Saturday, he'll face off against lefty David Huff. Inge posted a .177/.242/.242 slash line before being designated for assignment, so watch his progress carefully.

Sat Aug 20 201112:03Brandon Inge recalled
Tigers recalled 3B Brandon Inge from Triple-A Toledo.
Inge's time in the minors served him well, as he batted 287/.389/.519 with seven homers in 108 at-bats for Toledo. He's expected to draw plenty of playing time at third base against left-handed pitching and could get some starts against righties, as well, if his bat stays hot. However, given his .177/.242/.242 slash line before being designated for assignment, we're not betting on it.

Fri Aug 19 201122:03Tigers to call up Inge on Saturday
The Tigers announced after Friday's game that Brandon Inge would be recalled Saturday.
Inge returns after hitting .287/.389/.519 with seven homers in 108 at-bats for Triple-A Toledo. He should immediately take over as the Tigers' third baseman against lefties, and if he hits, he could cut into Wilson Betemit's playing time versus righties. Don Kelly will lose at-bats.

Thu Aug 18 201109:46Inge on track to rejoin Tigers in September
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Wednesday that Brandon Inge could get at-bats against left-handed pitching when rosters expand in September.
"Hopefully, he'll be able to help us against left-handed pitching, for sure," Leyland said, "and then also be a defensive replacement late in the game, no matter who you play." Inge has turned things around since being designated for assignment last month, batting .298/.402/.538 with seven homers, 19 RBI and a .940 OPS over 28 games with Triple-A Toledo. We're not expecting much from a fantasy perspective, but the 34-year-old at least owns a respectable .793 OPS against southpaws during his major league career. He could be a useful platoon mate for Wilson Betemit down the stretch.

Tue Jul 26 201113:32Tigers outright Inge to AAA
Tigers sent 3B Brandon Inge outright to Triple-A Toledo.
Inge drew a bit of interest on waivers from the Marlins, but no club ever pulled the trigger. He was DFA'd after opening the season with a .177/.242/.242 slash line.
