Hardy (groin) will receive a platelet-rich plasma injection Thursday, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
The Orioles are optimistic that Hardy will be able to come off the disabled list after the minimum 15 days, but the PRP injection may prevent him from traveling with the team on its current road trip.

Hardy's (groin) MRI came back negative Monday and manager Buck Showalter hopes he'll be ready to return Sept. 8, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Those that have a vested interested in Hardy can collectively breathe a sigh of relief, although the shortstop still needs to successfully make it through his stint on the 15-day disabled list before he returns to the field. In the meantime, Ryan Flaherty is expected to take over for Hardy.
Sun Aug 23 201521:40Hardy (groin) placed on 15-day disabled list Sunday
Hardy (groin) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, the Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly reports.
Based on his comments after the decision was made, Hardy expects to be healthy in fewer than 15 days but understands that the decision may be somewhat related to his poor performance at the plate. In addition to an ugly .220/.251/.313 slash line, he owns the worst strikeout and walk rates of his career, along with the highest ground ball rate. Hardy's excellent defense should be enough for him to regain a regular spot in the lineup in a few weeks, but Ryan Flaherty figures to get most of the playing time at shortstop for now.
Sun Aug 23 201511:09J.J. Hardy: (Groin) Out Of The Lineup Sunday
Hardy is out of the lineup Sunday against the Twins. Per Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, the shortstop is dealing with groin discomfort.
Hardy apparently began feeling some soreness Friday evening, but played Saturday anyway, going 0-for-2 with a walk. There apparently isn't a specific incident that caused the ailment, as this just appears to be regular wear and tear after starting all but one game since June 5. According to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports, Hardy will receive treatment Sunday, and expects to return to action for Monday's series opener in Kansas City.

Hardy connected on home run No. 7 of the season in Wednesday's shutout victory over the Braves.
Hardy's blast traveled just 367 feet, but it was enough to get out of the yard and give starting pitcher Chris Tillman all the cushion he needed in what marked one of his more dominant outings of the season. With a .240/.271/.354 batting line on the campaign, the 32-year-old Hardy no longer looks like one of the top fantasy options at shortstop, but he's at least begun to show some signs of life since the All-Star break. Over 42 at-bats in the second half, he's hitting .310 with two long balls and seven RBI.
Thu Jul 2 201506:49Hardy hit fourth homer of year Wednesday against Texas
Hardy hit his fourth homer of the year Wednesday against Texas. The two-run shot represented his only hit in four at-bats.
Between injury and ineffectiveness, this season has been a struggle for Hardy -- his worst campaign in the majors, even worse than his disastrous season with Minnesota in 2010. Never a high-OBP hitter, he's seen that stat crater at .280, while his power has been flaky at best. He does have a pair of homers over the last six games, but with the way Hardy's scuffled, it's much too early to call this a power surge.
Fri Jun 5 201517:33J.J. Hardy: (Oblique) In Friday's Lineup
Hardy (oblique) is back in the lineup hitting eighth Friday against the Indians.
This was anticipated Thursday when he was available off the bench but not in the lineup. The Orioles seem to have dodged a scare here with Hardy, as he will not end up missing much time with the oblique injury. The O's may still opt to give him a day off here and there in the short term, but Hardy's owners can expect to see him in the lineup more often than not going forward.

Hardy (oblique) is not in Thursday's lineup but he might be available off the bench and could get the start Friday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
It sounds like there is a good chance Hardy returns to the lineup Friday, so the Orioles appear to have dodged a bullet where he is concerned. Everth Cabrera will get the start at shortstop Thursday.

Baltimore Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy is out of the lineup again Thursday due to an oblique injury, but could play Friday against the Cleveland Indians, according to MASN.
Baltimore Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy is out of the lineup again Thursday due to an oblique injury, but could play Friday against the Cleveland Indians, according to MASN. Hardy could be available off the bench Thursday despite being out of the lineup for the fourth consecutive game. Hardy said he feared that the injury could be similar to the one he suffered in 2011, which forced him to miss 25 games. “I’m just nervous that it’s more than a day or two type thing,” Hardy told the Baltimore Sun. “I’m just nervous that it might turn into something worse and I don’t want it to, so I think resting it is probably the right thing. It’s frustrating, though. It’s the shoulder in the spring, then the back starts acting up. Now it’s this and it’s just frustrating.” Hardy missed the first month of the season due to shoulder and back issues.
Wed Jun 3 201517:04Hardy (oblique) remains out of lineup Wednesday
Hardy (oblique) remains out of the lineup Wednesday.
An MRI taken on Hardy's injured oblique came back negative, but he is still not feeling good enough to get back in the lineup. Ryan Flaherty will get the start at shortstop Wednesday in Hardy's place.

Hardy's MRI on his oblique came back clean Tuesday and he is considered day-to-day, the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo Encina reports.
Even with the clean MRI, it was reported that Hardy was unlikely to play in Wednesday's game, which makes sense given the nature of the injury. The Orioles will want to make sure he's close to 100 percent before they bring him back. Ryan Flaherty and Everth Cabrera would be the likely replacement options at shortstop if Hardy misses further time.
Tue Jun 2 201520:14J.J. Hardy:
Hardy (oblique) will likely be held out of Wednesday's game, MLB.com's Britt Ghiroli reports.
Hardy was scheduled to have an MRI Tuesday evening, but those results are not yet known. It is possible that he is in line to miss an extended period of time with the oblique injury. Ryan Flaherty got the start at shortstop Tuesday.
Tue Jun 2 201516:34J.J. Hardy: (Oblique) Undergoes MRI
Hardy (oblique) had an MRI on Tuesday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
According to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun, Hardy said the soreness in his left side feels similar to an oblique strain that caused him to miss 25 games in 2011. While there's no need to jump to any conclusions regarding an extended absence, Hardy won't be in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros, and he's a candidate to land on the disabled list.

Hardy was held out of Monday's lineup against the Astros due to irritation he's been experiencing on his left side, Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Hardy didn't take batting practice Monday as a result of the injury, though he was spotted fielding grounders. It doesn't sound like the Orioles are calling Hardy more than day-to-day at this time, but the shortstop expressed concern that he could be out for more than game or two due to his previous issues with his left oblique in 2011. Everth Cabrera will take Hardy's spot in the lineup while the Orioles look to determine the full extent of the injury.
Mon Jun 1 201517:50Hardy out of lineup Monday against Astros
Hardy is out of the lineup Monday against the Astros, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.
Hardy is hitting just .190 this season and is getting Monday off after eight straight starts. This appears to be unrelated to the back injury that forced him out of a game last week. Everth Cabrera gets the start at shortstop instead.
Tue May 26 201516:48Hardy feels he managing back issues much better than he did last...
Hardy, who left Monday's game with a back injury but will play Tuesday, feels he is managing his back issues much better than he did last season, Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Back injuries cost Hardy roughly a week's worth of action two separate times last season, but the back issue that knocked him out of Monday's game did not require him sitting out even a full game, which is proof enough that he is keeping his back in better shape than he did a year ago. The back soreness could pop up again at some point this season, but -- depending on the severity, of course -- it should not require a lengthy absence like it did in 2014.
Tue May 26 201515:05Hardy (back) back in lineup Tuesday against Astros
Hardy (back) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the Astros.
Hardy left Monday's game with tightness in his back, but it doesn't look to be anything serious, as he's back in the lineup hitting seventh and manning his usual shortstop spot against Astros starter Scott Feldman.
