Tom Gorzelanny could lose his spot in the Nationals rotation when Chien-Ming Wang (shoulder) joins the big club.
Gorzelanny didn't do himself any favors by getting pummeled for five runs over just three innings Saturday. He has a 5.50 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in four starts this month. The Nationals, at least publicly, aren't saying if Gorzelanny is, in fact, in trouble. "I'm not really thinking about that right now," manager Davey Johnson said. Wang will make one more rehab start Sunday before being activated.

Gorzy left his last start with a sprained ankle, but the Nationals deemed him ready to go after a bullpen session. He ended up having his shortest (healthy) outing of the season, and his ERA jumped to 4.46. His trade value might be pretty well shot now.

Sun Jul 17 201120:51Gorzelanny isn't sure he'll make next start
Tom Gorzelanny isn't ready to proclaim himself ready for his next start after spraining his ankle during Sunday's start.
Gorzelanny was injured in a collision at home plate with the Braves' Brian McCann when he barreled into the catcher to score the Nats' first run of the game. "I don't know. When something happens, you can't make a decision right then and there," Gorzelanny said. "You've got to wait a couple days, see how it feels, but hopefully I'm able to do it." The Nationals have an off day between series against the Astros and Dodgers, so maybe Gorzelanny will be ready for his next start.

Tom Gorzelanny tossed seven innings of one-run ball in a tough-luck loss to the White Sox on Saturday.
Gorzelanny allowed a sacrifice fly to Carlos Quentin in the bottom of the first, but held the White Sox scoreless the rest of the way. He obviously deserved a better fate, but at least he gave the bullpen a break. The southpaw matched a season-high with eight strikeouts in the loss. He'll hope for more run support against the Pirates next week.

Fri May 27 201123:10Nationals place Tom Gorzelanny (elbow) on DL
Nationals placed LHP Tom Gorzelanny on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 24, with left elbow inflammation.
This goes a long way towards explaining his recent struggles. No word yet on who will take his rotation spot and start Sunday. Ross Detwiler seems like an obvious choice, particularly since Brad Meyers just pitched for Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Mon May 2 201121:33Gorzelanny dominates slumping Giants
Tom Gorzelanny dazzled the slumping Giants on Monday evening, allowing just three hits in eight scoreless innings of work in a 2-0 Nationals victroy.
Gorzelanny struck out four and walked none, lowering his ERA to 2.93 and WHIP to 0.91. The win was his first of the season, while tonight was the first time in 2011 he pitched beyond the seventh inning. He obviously will not keep up at this rate, but is worth rostering in mixed leagues for the time being. He'll get the Marlins on the road this weekend.

Wed Apr 27 201123:00Gorzelanny takes hard-luck no-decision
Tom Gorzelanny held the Mets to five hits and one run in 6 1/3 innings of work on Wednesday evening, but got stuck with a no-decision as the Nats bullpen imploded in a 6-3 loss.
He struck out four and walked one. Gorzelanny has now allowed two or fewer runs in each of his past three starts, posting a 19/9 K/BB ratio in the process. He's not an exciting option for NL-only league owners, but he's certainly a quality one.

Fri Apr 15 201122:30Gorzelanny quality, but takes no-decision
Tom Gorzelanny turned in a quality outing the Nationals' 4-3, 10-inning win over the Brewers on Friday, allowing just five hits and two runs in six innings of work.
This is the kind of night the Nats would be happy with from their journeyman lefty every time he takes the mound. Although Gorzelanny posted a solid 7.9 K/9 over 136 2/3 innings for the Cubs last year, he's unlikely to have any real value in mixed leagues this season.
