Fri Mar 4 201117:31Stauffer bounces back Friday
Tim Stauffer held the Diamondbacks to one hit and no runs over three innings Friday.
He struck out a pair of D-backs hitters and got six groundouts to just one flyout. It's a nice bounce-back effort from his showing against the Mariners Sunday where he yielded five runs over 1 2/3 innings. Stauffer is a legit sleeper candidate this season after posting a 1.85 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 82 2/3 innings last year.

Tim Stauffer was pounded for five runs in 1 2/3 innings by the Mariners in a charity game Sunday.
Stauffer's official spring ERA still stands at 0.00, and he'll hope this one is forgotten quickly. The former swingman is slated to be a full-time starter for the Padres this season.

Tim Stauffer limited the Giants to one earned run over 6 1/3 innings Saturday as the Padres grabbed a 4-2 victory.
Stauffer allowed only three hits and struck out four to keep the Padres' playoff hopes alive. They can tie the Giants atop the National League West with a win in Sunday's regular season finale. The right-handed Stauffer has a 1.85 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP over 82 2/3 innings this year.
Tue Sep 28 201001:34Padres' Stauffer takes 1-0 loss
Tim Stauffer took a tough loss Monday after holding the Cubs to one run in seven innings.
Stauffer turned in another gem, but Carlos Zambrano was even better. With one start remaining, Stauffer has a 1.89 ERA. He's allowed 17 runs, 16 of them earned, in 76 1/3 innings. Contrast that to 2007, when Stauffer gave up 18 runs in 7 2/3 innings for the Padres, giving him a 21.13 ERA.
Thu Sep 23 201000:54Padres' Stauffer defeats Dodgers
Tim Stauffer pitched six innings of one-run ball to beat the Dodgers on Wednesday night.
Despite moving into the rotation, Stauffer has managed to maintain his sub-2.00 ERA. He's 5-4 with a 1.95 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP in five starts and 25 relief appearances this season. He looks like a strong final-week play with a home start against the Cubs and likely a weekend start in San Francisco.
Thu Sep 16 201023:04Stauffer labors through five innings
Tim Stauffer lasted only five innings Thursday, giving up four runs in the loss to the Cardinals.
He gave up six hits, walked two (one intentionally) and struck out two. The right-hander was terrific in his previous two outings, but it remains to be seen if he'll get another one after a little hiccup tonight. If he does, Stauffer will likely face the Dodgers next week.

Tim Stauffer will start for the Padres on Thursday against the Cardinals.
Stauffer fired six scoreless innings on Saturday against the Giants and should remain in the Padres' rotation until he shows a sign of let-up. He has a 1.54 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in 58 1/3 total frames this year.

Sat Sep 11 201018:29Padres reclaim first-place with shutout win
Tim Stauffer spun six scoreless frames in a 1-0 win over the Giants on Saturday, as the Padres reclaimed first place in the NL West.
After being equal to the take in consecutive starts, it's probably safe to assume that Stauffer will have a permanent place in the starting rotation moving forward. Stauffer limited the Giants to just three hits while fanning five and walking a pair. He was pulled after throwing 55 out of 85 pitches for strikes. The former 2003 first-round pick is worth picking up in NL-only leagues with a matchup against the Cardinals next week. As for the Padres, they are now in great position to leave PETCO Park with two-game advantage, as their ace Mat Latos will take the hill on Sunday.
Wed Sep 8 201011:20Stauffer could start for Padres on Saturday
Padres manager Bud Black didn't discount the possibility that Tim Stauffer could start against the Giants on Saturday.
"He's been valuable [in long relief], but now we have a situation where we have to decide moving forward what's going to happen with a couple of our guys in our rotation," said Black. Stauffer allowed one run over four innings as a last-minute replacement for Mat Latos on Monday night. Kevin Correia and Wade LeBlanc have struggled lately, so Black could roll the dice for this weekend's critical series.

Tue Sep 7 201001:10Stauffer fills in admirably for Latos
Tim Stauffer, who was a last-minute replacement for Mat Latos, gave up one run over four innings against the Dodgers on Monday night.
He did his job. Stauffer allowed four hits while striking out one and walking one. He was pulled for a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the fourth inning with runners on first and second base and two outs, but he had reached his expected pitch-count already. Edward Mujica, Joe Thatcher, Ryan Webb, Mike Adams and Heath Bell did the rest, combining for five innings of one-run ball to secure the win. If he feels up to it, Latos is expected to pitch against Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday night.

Tim Stauffer (appendicitis) will have one more outing with Triple-A Portland before the clock on his minor league rehab assignment expires.

He can't remain with Triple-A Portland past Saturday, so the Padres should make a roster move in the next few days. Stauffer posted a 0.39 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP in nine relief appearances and one start with the Padres before undergoing an emergency appendectomy last month.

Tim Stauffer (appendicitis) allowed two unearned runs over five innings in his second minor league rehab start with Triple-A Portland on Friday.
A huge improvement after he was rocked for six runs -- four earned -- over 1 1/3 innings on Sunday. The Padres had hoped to get him stretched out to 75-80 pitches on Friday and he came pretty close, throwing 68. He should be activated from the disabled list in the very near future.

Tim Stauffer (appendicitis) will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
Stauffer is currently working his way back from an emergency appendectomy earlier this month. He's already come a very long way in a relatively short period of time, but everyone responds differently to this type of procedure. That being said, there won't be any sort of timetable for his return until he begins to push himself a little harder.

Tim Stauffer (appendicitis) could begin playing catch by as soon as this weekend.
Pretty remarkable considering he is just a week removed from an emergency appendectomy. The Padres gave a rough timeline of four weeks following the procedure, but he is progressing much faster than previously expected. Stauffer has an 0.39 ERA over his first 10 appearances (one start) this season.
