Fri Apr 20 201219:38Stauffer to throw bullpen Saturday
Tim Stauffer (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Saturday.
If all goes well, the next step would be a 40-50 pitch simulated game on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks in either of those appearances, and he could be headed for a rehab assignment by the end of the week.

Tue Apr 17 201219:27Tim Stauffer throws bullpen session
Tim Stauffer (elbow) threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled to throw another one this weekend.
It was the first time since his elbow injury that he was able to throw off a mound. Stauffer is coming along, but he's still at least a couple of weeks away from activation. Anthony Bass or Joe Wieland will be booted from the rotation once Stauffer is ready.

According to MLB.com's Corey Brock, an MRI on Tim Stauffer's right elbow revealed no structural damage.
Manager Bud Black said it will be ''a few days'' before Stauffer is allowed to pick up a ball, as the Padres won't risk him taking the mound at less than 100 percent. The 29-year-old right-hander should be cleared to make his 2012 debut by mid-April.

Sun Apr 1 201212:41Tim Stauffer nursing mild triceps injury
Tim Stauffer is currently dealing with a mild triceps injury.
It's good that it's a mild case, but any injury this late in spring training puts Opening Day in danger, especially when it involves a pitching arm. The Padres have already named Edinson Volquez their Opening Day starter and could conceivably push Stauffer back until they need a fifth starter. He's struggled this spring, posting a 5.60 ERA.

Mon Mar 26 201219:49Stauffer has average day vs. Cubs
Tim Stauffer allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk in five innings of Monday's loss to the Cubs.
Stauffer is now the owner of a 5.60 ERA through 17 2/3 spring innings, but that number is obscured by a five-run, 2 2/3 inning outing he had on March 16 against the Angels. Otherwise, he's allowed just six runs in 15 frames. He's ready for the regular season.

Wed Mar 21 201218:31Tim Stauffer rebounds Wednesday
Tim Stauffer rebounded Wednesday from a disastrous outing his last time out, twirling six scoreless innings on just three hits against the Dodgers.
He struck out a pair. Stauffer was beaten like a drum his last time out, allowing five runs on 11 hits and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings, so he probably could have used this performance to help his confidence. His spring ERA still sits at an unsightly 6.39, but we're not worried.

Fri Mar 16 201220:09Stauffer destroyed by Halos in rough outing
Tim Stauffer got beaten back to the stone age in Friday's 8-7 win over the Angels, allowing five runs on 11 hits and two walks in just 2 2/3 innings.
He fanned just one, and served up a solo home run to prospect Jean Segura. The nightmare day ballooned Stauffer's spring ERA from an already ugly 9.00 to 12.15. It's hardly ideal, but of little concern coming off Stauffer's strong 2011. That being said, he's unlikely to equal the 3.73 ERA he posted across 185 2/3 innings last season.

Tue Jan 17 201212:47Padres, Stauffer avoid arbitration
The Padres and RHP Tim Stauffer avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.2 million contract.
He was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. Stauffer, 29, had a solid 3.73 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 185 2/3 innings last season for the Padres while earning $1.075 million.

Sat Sep 24 201108:27Tim Stauffer could pitch Tuesday
Tim Stauffer (forearm) will throw a bullpen session Saturday.
If the session goes well, he could be cleared to start on Tuesday. Stauffer's last outing was skipped due to tightness in his right forearm, but the ailment is considered minor. He'd be shooting for win No. 10 if he does get the nod.

Sun Sep 18 201114:29Tim Stauffer (arm) will not make next start
Tim Stauffer (forearm) will not make his scheduled start Wednesday after all.
Stauffer left Friday's outing with tightness in his right forearm but was expected to be good to go for his next outing. Apparently the Padres have decided to play it safe, though, and will start Anthony Bass instead. Stauffer is expected to pitch again this season.

Sat Sep 17 201111:00Tim Stauffer expected to make next start
Tim Stauffer (forearm) is expected to make his next start.
Stauffer left Friday's outing with tightness in his right forearm, but it's evidently something he's dealt with a few times this season and the Padres don't seem to be worried. The right-hander has been hit-or-miss over the last month but spun 6 2/3 scoreless innings before being removed Friday. He has to pitch in Colorado next Wednesday but will then close the year with a favorable matchup at home against the Cubs.

Sat Sep 17 201100:25Stauffer diagnosed with right arm stiffness
Tim Stauffer was diagnosed with right arm stiffness.
This is a pretty vague diagnosis, so hopefully we'll hear about his status following the game. Stauffer tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings before leaving Friday's game.

Wed Aug 31 201101:29Stauffer rocked for 7 runs over 1 2/3 innings
Tim Stauffer was rocked for seven runs over 1 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Dodgers.
And the topper? Stauffer managed to allow seven runs while giving up one hit. Instead, he walked seven batters, six of which came in a nightmare second inning, the topper of which was walking Hiroki Kuroda with the bases loaded. Anthony Bass relieved Stauffer and promptly gave up a grand slam, adding three runs to the starter's ledger. His ERA jumped all the way from 3.42 to 3.76 in this one. The Padres said before this start that they weren't concerned with Stauffer's workload (he entered at 166 innings, which put him on pace to double his workload from the majors and minors in 2010), but perhaps they'll change their tune after this one.

Thu Aug 25 201101:09Stauffer takes hard-luck loss
Tim Stauffer held the Giants to just two runs on six hits on Wednesday evening, but got stuck with a hard-luck loss in San Diego's 2-1 setback in San Francisco.
He struck out one and walked none. Stauffer's only real mistake came in the fourth, where he served up a solo home run to Carlos Beltran. Now the owner of a 3.42 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 114/43 K/BB ratio through 166 innings, Stauffer will get the Dodgers in Los Angeles his next time out.

Fri Aug 19 201101:49Tim Stauffer earns win over Marlins
Tim Stauffer pitched the Padres to a win by allowing one run over seven innings against the Marlins on Thursday night.
A John Buck homer in the seventh accounted for the only damage. It was a nice turnaround for Stauffer, who gave up a remarkable eight homers in his previous two starts. He's 8-9 with a 3.43 ERA this year.
