Sat Aug 13 201122:46Stauffer allows nine runs in loss to Reds
Tim Stauffer yielded allowed nine earned runs over three innings Saturday in a loss to the Reds.
Yikes. Stauffer was also shaky in his last outing and may be showing signs of fatigue here in mid-August. It's probably time to try selling high on the 29-year-old right-hander, who has a rising 3.53 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.

Tim Stauffer allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks in six innings of San Diego's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday.
He struck out one. Although today was technically Stauffer's seventh straight quality start, it's hard to get a win when you issue five free passes. Now 5-6, he'll enter the All-Star break with a 2.97 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 90/31 K/BB ratio through 118 innings of work.

While it's the Padres relievers that teams figure to target for the most part, a few clubs are sure to check in on whether Stauffer might be available. He's taking advantage of Petco, for sure, but he also has a fine 3.25 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in seven road starts.

Tim Stauffer pitched seven innings of two-run ball and struck out nine in a win over the Braves on Friday.
Stauffer, who was on the wrong side of 2-0 and 1-0 games his last two times out, finally got some run support tonight in the Padres' 11-2 victory. It was just his third win in 16 starts this season. Of course, with his 3.09 ERA, he deserves quite a bit better.

Sat Jun 18 201122:16Stauffer throws seven strong, takes loss
Tim Stauffer threw seven innings of one-run ball Saturday against the Twins but got stuck with the loss.
Stauffer didn't issue a single walk while fanning five batters, but he allowed a solo shot to Twins infielder Danny Valencia in the second inning and the San Diego lineup provided no run support. The right-hander has enjoyed a silky smooth past few weeks and is a perfectly useful fantasy starter.

Sun Jun 12 201119:54Stauffer's gem wasted by Padres
Tim Stauffer tossed seven innings of shutout ball against the Nationals Sunday but was stuck with a no-decision.
Stauffer struck out five, walked three and gave up five hits. After shutting out the Rockies last time out, the former No. 4 overall pick is riding a 15-inning scoreless streak. It's lowered his ERA to 3.28, but he'll have to leave the friendly confines of Petco Park for a date in Minnesota next week. Still, Stauffer is worth a roster spot in most mixed formats.

The stellar outing came out of left field, as Stauffer had surrendered 19 earned runs in 28 2/3 innings over his last five starts. Stauffer has a favorable start this weekend against the Nationals at home, so he's well worth using in mixed leagues.

Tim Stauffer tossed seven innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 win over the Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
As usual, Stauffer didn't get much help from his offense, but he finally has that elusive first win. He gave up just four hits while walking a season-high four and striking out four. The only run scored on a solo homer by Laynce Nix in the bottom of the seventh inning. Stauffer has yet another favorable start next week against the Astros at home, so he's well worth using in mixed leagues.

Sun May 22 201119:40Stauffer falls to 0-3
Tim Stauffer yielded three earned runs over six innings in a loss to the Mariners Sunday.
Stauffer gave up a season-high 10 hits in Petco to the light-hitting Mariners while striking out three and walking one. He's now allowed 13 earned runs over his last three starts, but the lack of run support is the biggest drawback to Stauffer's fantasy viability. We still like him as an under-the-radar starter, especially with the Nationals on deck.

Mon Apr 18 201122:50Stauffer stiles Cubs, but takes no-decision
Tim Stauffer scattered just four hits in seven scoreless innings of work against the Cubs on Monday evening, but had to settle for a no-decision as the Padres lost 1-0 in 10 innings.
Stauffer had yet to record an out beyond the sixth inning in three starts this season, so tonight was a very encouraging outing, particularly since it came on the road. He's not likely to turn in too many quality starts away from Petco Park, but combined with his solid end to the 2010 season, looks to be making a successful transition from relieving to starting.

Fri Mar 25 201120:57Tim Stauffer named Opening Day starter
Tim Stauffer has been named the Padres' Opening Day starter.
He's getting the call because Mat Latos is hurt, but it's quite an accomplishment for a guy that made just seven starts last season with the Pads. He earned the nod after posting a 3.66 ERA and 14/3 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 spring innings. Stauffer is a terrific sleeper candidate in mixed leagues this season.

Wed Mar 23 201118:59Tim Stauffer pitches well in return to mound
Tim Stauffer (hip flexor) pitched well in his return to the mound Wednesday, limiting the Reds to two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings.
He also struck out four, with a Juan Francisco two-run homer providing the only damage. It appears the hip flexor ailment is behind the right-hander, and he's put together a solid spring, holding a 3.66 ERA and 14/3 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings. Stauffer is an intriguing late-round option in deeper mixed formats.

It appears as if he will be fine for Opening Day. Set to serve as the Padres' fifth starter this season, Stauffer has posted a 3.95 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 13 2/3 Cactus League innings, and is an intriguing fantasy option in NL-only leagues after spending most of 2010 in the bullpen.

Tim Stauffer has been scratched from his scheduled Friday start due to a sore hip flexor.
It's not the type of injury that should limit him for very long or affect his status for the start of the regular season. Stauffer has posted a 3.95 ERA and 10/2 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 Cactus League innings this spring.
