Ellis injured his left leg when he was upended by Cardinals' infielder Tyler Greene last Friday. Sun May 20 201217:05Ellis' leg 5 hours from possible amputatation
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Sunday that a doctor told him that Mark Ellis' left leg might have needed amputatation if they had waited four or five more hours to make a cut to relieve pressure.
Scary stuff. Ellis underwent a fasciotomy for a serious condition that was discovered earlier Saturday. He will miss at least six weeks of game action, which is small potatoes compared to what Mattingly was informed. Justin Sellers and Elian Herrera will likely split time at second base for now.

Sat May 19 201208:56X-Rays to Ellis' leg come back negative
X-rays to Mark Ellis' left leg came back negative, but his availability for Saturday's game won't be determined until he's re-examined.
Ellis was injured on a takeout slide by Tyler Greene on Friday and later removed in a double-switch. "It's not broken," he said. "It hurts a lot. We have to get the swelling out of there. The ankle, shin, the whole lower leg hurts." It sounds like Ellis will avoid the disabled list. If he were to miss time, Justin Sellers would see regular at-bats at second base.

Mon Nov 14 201117:57Ellis' deal includes club option for 2013
According to ESPNLosAngeles.com, Mark Ellis' new two-year contract with the Dodgers includes a club option for 2014.
Ellis and the Dodgers agreed to a two-year, $8.75 million contract on Monday. Exact terms of the option year aren't yet known, but this is a bit of a stretch for someone who turns 35 next season and batted just .248/.288/.346 with seven homers and 41 RBI in 519 plate appearances in 2011.

Mon Nov 14 201115:43Dodgers ink 2B Ellis to two-year, $8.75M pact
Dodgers signed 2B Mark Ellis to a two-year, $8.75 million contract.
The deal was first reported by Buster Olney of ESPN.com, then confirmed as finalized by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Ellis is no longer a reliable producer offensively, but he's a steady defensive infielder and should provide some stability for the Dodgers at second base. Still, the salary is a bit high for our liking and the 34-year-old is no longer fantasy-relevant.

Mon Nov 14 201115:15Ellis on verge of two-year deal with Dodgers
Free agent infielder Mark Ellis is "on the verge of" signing a two-year, $9 million contract with the Dodgers, according to ESPN.com's Buster Olney.
Ellis, 34, batted just .248/.288/.346 with seven homers and 41 RBI in 519 plate appearances this year, but he's an above-average defender and is likely to start at second base for Los Angeles. The nine-year major league veteran was rumored to have interest in re-signing with the Rockies, but talks apparently didn't get far. He's not much of a fantasy option.

Sun Oct 16 201118:03Report: Ellis "figures to return" to Rockies
Impending free agent second baseman Mark Ellis "figures to return" to the Rockies in 2012, writes Jim Armstron of the Denver Post.
Colorado has been searching for a long-term option at second base for years and always ends up with stop-gaps or hopeful reclamation projects (like Jose Lopez, who began the season as Colorado's second baseman). "I grew up with the New York Yankees and they never were able to find a third baseman until Graig Nettles came along," general manager Dan O'Dowd said. "They went though years where they couldn't find anybody. That's second base here. It's unbelievable we haven't stumbled on one guy. Really, it's been mind-boggling." Ellis would represent another band-aid, but he's at least a serviceable player. The 34-year-old hit .274/.317/.392 in 286 plate appearances for the Rockies this season after being acquired from the A's in June.

The Oakland A's received 22-year-old outfielder Eliezer Mesa from Colorado to complete the trade that sent Mark Ellis to the Rockies on June 30.
A speedy centerfielder, Mesa posted .256/.320/.311 in 187 plate appearances for High-A Modesto while missing most of April and May with a wrist injury. Mesa had an All-Star season in the Sally League in 2010, batting .302 with a .777 OPS and hit .316 in the Pioneer League in 2009. Mesa will be 23 at the start of next season.
