Sun Sep 11 201113:42Mark Ellis sitting out Sunday
Mark Ellis is not in Sunday's lineup after being beaned in the helmet Saturday.
The Rockies are saying it's a precautionary move, so it doesn't appear he suffered a concussion. He's batting .268/.312/.400 in 55 games since arriving in Colorado.

Wed Aug 24 201118:46Mark Ellis collects four hits for Rockies
Mark Ellis had four hits, one of them a double, from the eighth spot in the Colorado lineup on Wednesday.
Ellis hit .235 through his first 51 at-bats in August, but he's gone 7-for-17 in his last four games. The power that he showed last month remains largely absent.

Sat Jul 30 201109:21Mark Ellis interested in re-signing
Mark Ellis is interested in re-signing with the Rockies.
"There's a reason that Helton, Tulo and CarGo all signed long-term contracts," Ellis said. Ellis has cooled off following a hot start with the Rockies but sports an adequate .274/.310/.421 batting line with Colorado. It's not known if the Rockies are also interested in working something out.

Sat Jul 2 201123:35Ellis: 4 doubles, 5 RBI in 2 games with Rox
Mark Ellis was at it again Saturday, netting three hits in the Rockies' 9-6 win over the Royals.
Ellis is 6-for-10 with four runs scoured, four doubles and five RBI since joining the Rockies in a Thursday afternoon trade. The high level of offensive production isn't likely to last, but he's going to keep finding time at second base in Colorado until the hotness wears off. Ellis has always been a strong defender.

Thu Jun 30 201114:53Rockies acquire Mark Ellis from Athletics
Rockies acquired 2B Mark Ellis and cash considerations from the Athletics for RHP Bruce Billings and a player to be named later.
We knew Ellis wouldn't last long in his newfound utility role. The 34-year-old actually lands in a pretty good spot here, as the Rockies have struggled to find a satisfactory option at second base all season long. We wouldn't recommend him outside of deep NL-only leagues, though.

Thu Jun 23 201110:49Ellis starting at first base Thursday
Mark Ellis will make his first major league start at first base Thursday against the Mets.
With Jemile Weeks playing well since his promotion from Triple-A Sacramento, Ellis is expected to serve in a utility role moving forward. It will be interesting to see how much playing time he actually gets at first base, especially after the club promoted Chris Carter on Thursday morning.

Wed Jun 22 201121:29Mark Ellis to be used in utility role
Mark Ellis will be used in a utility role with the A's going forward.
Jemile Weeks has earned the everyday job at second, so Ellis will play some third and first base while spotting Weeks on occasion at second. "He made it very easy on me," interim manager Bob Melvin said. "You would, to an extent, expect that, but to the extent and the level he went, for me, was off the charts. The first thing I said to him was, 'OK, the second-base situation,' and he said, 'That's an easy one, you gotta play him.'" Ellis has never played first base but has played the hot corner seven times during his career.

Wed Jun 22 201115:23Mark Ellis not in Wednesday's lineup
Mark Ellis is not in the A's lineup Wednesday.
Jemile Weeks remains in the lineup at second base and in the leadoff spot, which is a good sign that he's going to keep the job indefinitely. We would expect Ellis to still receive a couple starts per week, but he seems likely to be traded before the deadline.

Wed Jun 22 201112:02Mark Ellis activated
Athletics activated 2B Mark Ellis from the 15-day disabled list.
Ellis has been out since early June with a hamstring injury. It will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets, as Jemile Weeks appears entrenched as the team's starting second baseman. Ellis was batting just .211 with one homer before getting injured.

Tue Jun 21 201117:42Ellis (hammy) to return from DL Wednesday
Athletics manager Bob Geren confirmed that Mark Ellis (hamstring) will return from the disabled list Wednesday.
However, the club plans to talk with him about his role since Jemile Weeks has played so well since being promoted from the minor leagues. There's a good chance the veteran infielder gets traded before the deadline.

Tue Jun 21 201114:02Ellis to return from disbabled list Wednesday
Mark Ellis is expected to return from the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday's game.
Ellis missed two weeks with a hamstring strain and lost his starting second base job to prospect Jemile Weeks. The A's could shop him around on the trade market.

Tue Jun 21 201110:15Giants 'asked questions' about A's Mark Ellis
Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants "asked questions" about Oakland second baseman Mark Ellis this past weekend.
We'll have to assume that those "questions" were designed to get an idea of Ellis' availability. The 34-year-old is on the disabled list currently with a hamstring strain and has watched Jemile Weeks become a spark plug for the A's in his absence. It's seems likely that that the A's will be open to moving Ellis, who is going to be without a starting job in Oakland when he returns to full health.

Mon Jun 20 201123:03Ellis (hammy) has two hits in rehab game
Mark Ellis (hamstring) went 2-for-4 with an RBI double Monday in his third minor league rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento.
Ellis is 2-for-10 (.200) since beginning his rehab assignment Saturday. He is set to return from the disabled list Wednesday, which could lead to a demotion for Daric Barton. Jemile Weeks has played well since being called up from the minors, so Ellis will likely return as a reserve infielder.

Mon Jun 20 201109:21Ellis now 0-for-6 on rehab assignment
Mark Ellis (hamstring) went 0-for-3 Sunday in his second rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento.
Ellis is now 0-for-6 since beginning his minor league rehab assignment on Saturday, but the A's probably aren't too concerned about his numbers and remain likely to activate him Wednesday, when he first becomes eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list. With Jemile Weeks emerging as a spark plug offensively, Ellis could be relegated to utility infield duties.

Sat Jun 18 201109:11Mark Ellis to begin rehab assignment
Mark Ellis (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento Saturday.
He's expected to need just three games with Sacramento before being activated next Wednesday, the first he's eligible to come off the DL. What's not known at this time is what role Ellis will have when he returns, as Jemile Weeks has played well enough to possibly keep the second base job.

Thu Jun 16 201114:50Ellis (hamstring) set for rehab stint Friday
Mark Ellis (hamstring) is expected to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend with Triple-A Sacramento.
Ellis is eligible to return from the disabled list next Wednesday. The veteran could take a backseat to rookie Jemile Weeks upon his return.

Sun Jun 12 201109:34Mark Ellis thinks he'll be ready on June 22
Mark Ellis (hamstring) anticipates being activated from the disabled list on June 22, the first day he's eligible.
Ellis took some grounders and ran at about 75 percent effort level on Saturday. He seems likely to need a rehab assignment before being activated, but it's not clear when he might start one. The bigger issue for Ellis might be Jemile Weeks, who has batted .400 in four games since being recalled. It's possible Weeks might play well enough to keep the second base job even after Ellis returns.

Tue Jun 7 201109:39Ellis (hammy) expected to land on 15-day DL
Mark Ellis is expected to land on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a right hamstring strain.
Ellis suffered the injury in the sixth inning Monday against the Orioles. It's an unfortunate bit of news, but it may give the A's an excuse to call up top infield prospect Jemile Weeks from Triple-A Sacramento. Ellis should be back in 15 days.

Sun May 29 201101:09Mark Ellis finally hits first home run
Mark Ellis went 2-for-4 and hit his first homer of the season Saturday against the A's.
It took Ellis 179 at-bats to finally hit his first homer. He reached double figures in homers five years in a row before tumbling to five last year. It looks like he'll be lucky to reach even that total this season.
