Tue Jan 24 201213:58Betemit's contract with O's worth up to $6M
Wilson Betemit's new two-year deal with the Orioles is worth a total of $3 million.
It could jump to $6 million if Betemit reaches certain performance marks and is able to get his 2014 option to vest. The money is not bad, but the fit still seems odd. Betemit is going to start at designated hitter for Baltimore despite posting a pedestrian 285/.343/.452 batting line with eight home runs and 46 RBI in 359 plate appearances last season between the Royals and Tigers. He won't hold much in the way of fantasy value.

Tue Jan 24 201211:55O's finalize two-year deal with DH Betemit
Orioles signed INF Wilson Betemit to a two-year contract with a vesting option for 2014.
The terms of the agreement have not been revealed. Betemit, 30, batted .285/.343/.452 with eight home runs and 46 RBI in 359 plate appearances last season between the Royals and Tigers. That's not bad for a third baseman, but the Orioles are going to use him as their primary designated hitter. It's an odd move, to say the least.

Mon Jan 23 201221:56Report: O's, Betemit agree to one-year deal
Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have signed Wilson Betemit to a one-year contract, pending a physical.
Terms aren't yet available. The Orioles planned to go with Mark Reynolds at third base and Chris Davis at first base, but Betemit gives another option at the hot corner. Of course, he isn't known for his glove, so he could also slot in at designated hitter. The 30-year-old batted .285/.343/.452 with eight home runs, 46 RBI and a .795 OPS over 359 plate appearances last season between Kansas City and Detroit.

Mon Nov 28 201116:09Betemit not offered arbitration by Tigers
Wilson Betemit was not offered arbitration by the Tigers.
The Tigers also declined to offer arbitration to Magglio Ordonez, but Betemit was the tougher call given his modest $1 million salary in 2011. The 30-year-old batted .285/.343/.452 with eight home runs, 46 RBI and a .795 OPS over 359 plate appearances this season between Kansas City and Detroit, but it's clear that Tigers general manager Dave Dobrowski didn't want to risk the chance that the Type B free agent would accept.

Tue Sep 27 201109:48Betemit (knee) to play this week?
Wilson Betemit (knee) is expected to play in one of the Tigers' final two regular season games.
Betemit has been hobbled since sliding into home plate during a mid-September game with the A's, but the hope is that he'll be able to see some action before the Tigers head into their ALDS matchup. The infielder is batting .281/.336/.442 with seven home runs and 45 RBI.

Mon Sep 26 201117:36Wilson Betemit to have knee examined Monday
Wilson Betemit was scheduled to have his left knee examined by doctors on Monday.
Betemit hasn't played since tweaking his left knee on a slide into home plate on September 16. He won't be available Monday against the Indians and suddenly his status for the ALDS is looking iffy.

Mon Sep 26 201115:48Leyland: Betemit's knee is
Tigers manager Jim Leyland acknowledged Monday that Wilson Betemit (knee) is "not right."
Betemit injured his knee while sliding into home plate on September 16. The Tigers will likely take advantage of their secured postseason spot and rest him early this week. He's not in Monday's starting lineup.

Wed Aug 10 201121:46Betemit has two-hit, two-RBI night
Wilson Betemit went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Detroit's blowout loss to the Indians on Wednesday.
The two-RBI night was Betemit's first since arriving in Detroit on July 21. Now batting .310 in a Tigers uniform and .286 for the season, he should remain a steady contributor in AL-only leagues down the stretch.

Tue Jul 26 201123:35Betemit goes 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI
Wilson Betemit went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Tigers topped the White Sox 5-4 on Tuesday.
Betemit has at least one hit in all four of his starts since he was acquired from the Royals last week. The 29-year-old corner infielder has produced a cool .283/.342/.406 line this season. As Detroit's starting third baseman, he will have solid AL-only value from here on out.

Wed Jul 20 201117:46Tigers snag Wilson Betemit for two prospects
Tigers acquired 3B Wilson Betemit from the Royals for LHP Antonio Cruz and C Julio Rodriguez.
Betemit also drew interest from the Brewers and Angels, but the Tigers made the most aggressive play for the 29-year-old corner infielder and are expected to make him their regular starting third baseman. Betemit has registered a cool .281/.341/.409 batting line this year and will take on more fantasy value now that everyday playing time will be coming his way.

Wed Jul 20 201117:37Report: Wilson Betemit acquired by Tigers
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Tigers have acquired Wilson Betemit from the Royals in exchange for two prospects.
Morosi says the Royals will get a left-handed pitcher and a catcher from Detroit, though he doesn't have the specific names yet. Betemit has posted a .281/.341/.409 batting line with three homers this year for the Royals and put up an .889 OPS for them last year. He'll presumably take over as the everyday third baseman for Brandon Inge, who has a woeful .177/.242/.242 batting line this season.

Tue Jul 19 201120:52Report: Brewers still interested in Betemit
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Brewers and Royals are "still in contact" about Wilson Betemit, but, as of earlier Tuesday, no substantial progress towards a deal has been made.
Morosi adds that the Brewers want to upgrade at third base and would prefer the acquisition can also play in the outfield (Betemit has played there on a limited basis). Betemit has had a nice year for the Royals and was even better last year, but he doesn't seem like much of an upgrade at the hot corner even with Casey McGehee struggling mightily.

Mon Jul 18 201117:05Report: Angels interested in Wilson Betemit
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Angels have interest in Wilson Betemit.
FOXSports.com reported over the weekend that the Brewers are also looking at Betemit as a solution at third base. The Angels are reportedly interested in Aramis Ramirez, as well, though it's considered a longshot at this time.

Mon Jul 18 201114:19Report: Brewers looking for SS, 3B upgrades
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Brewers are monitoring the shortstop and third base market as the trade deadline approaches.
Heyman writes that they are eying Wilson Betemit and Jamey Carroll. Because Milwaukee has decimated its minor league system, they'll have to be bargain shoppers. Both Yuniesky Betancourt and Casey McGehee have provided little production on the left side of the infield.

Wed Jul 13 201119:10Brewers targeting upgrades at SS, 3B
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Brewers want to upgrade at shortstop and third base at the trade deadline.
The Brew Crew added Francisco Rodriguez Tuesday, but it appears they're not done yet. Both Yuniesky Betancourt and Casey McGehee have provided little production on the left side of the infield, and Rosenthal says Milwaukee wants "a clear upgrade, ideally a difference-maker." He mentions Jamey Carroll as a potential target at shortstop but says Carroll is not yet available. Wilson Betemit is another name he throws out there, though we're not sure he'd be an upgrade at the hot corner even with McGehee underperforming.

Thu Apr 14 201123:02Wilson Betemit homers Thursday
Wilson Betemit hit a solo homer and added a sacrifice fly in Thursday's win over the Mariners.
Betemit has taken advantage of Mike Aviles' early struggles and looks to be cementing himself as the primary third baseman with a .387 batting mark and seven RBI. He's hitting an impressive .306 with 14 homers over 307 at-bats the last two seasons with the Royals.

Wilson Betemit went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and a steal Sunday to lead the Royals to a 9-5 win over the Tigers.
Mike Aviles' early slump has given Betemit the opening he needed, and he's responded by going 8-for-19 with four RBI and five walks in his five starts for the Royals. Now it looks like he'll go back to playing regularly against right-handers.

Sat Apr 2 201110:52Wilson Betemit draws start at 3B
Wilson Betemit is starting at third base for the Royals Saturday.
Mike Aviles homered Thursday and tripled and stole a base Friday, but he'll be given a day off against right-hander Ervin Santana. Betemit figures to see a couple starts per week for the Royals.

Tue Mar 8 201110:03Betemit (elbow) to make spring debut Tues.
Wilson Betemit (elbow) will make his spring debut Tuesday at designated hitter.
The Royals have been taking it easy with Betemit since he reported to camp in mid-February with a sore throwing elbow. He has plenty of time to get his looks in before the start of Kansas City's regular season schedule.
