LHP Brandon Finnegan set a career high with 12 strikeouts in six innings Friday but was not involved in the decision in Arizona's 4-3, 11-inning victory. Finnegan struck out the side in the first and fifth innings and struck out at least one in every inning. He gave up three hits and walked two. "Pitch quality," manager Bryan Price said about Finnegan's recent success. "He's a work in progress, in that he has to continue to learn how to control the strike zone. His last several starts, there are not the egregious misses, the empty pitches, pitches that are thrown that have no chance to get a swing or don't set up the next pitch."

LHP Brandon Finnegan's biggest struggles this season have been walks and homers. They came back to haunt him again Monday. He walked three, including the final batter he faced in the sixth inning, a runner that eventually scored to give Miami a 4-1 lead. His walk total is up to 68 in 134 2/3 innings. LHP Brandon Finnegan gets a second shot at the San Diego Padres in the opener of a three-game series Friday night. Only this time the left-hander won't have to deal with LHP Drew Pomeranz. Finnegan pitched well enough to win his June 25 home start against the Padres, allowing just three runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. But it wasn't enough to beat Pomeranz, who shut out the Reds in the 3-0 win. Pomeranz has since been traded to the Boston Red Sox.

LHP Brandon Finnegan allowed three homers on Sunday afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks, giving him 22 allowed on the season. He gave up six earned runs on Sunday and seven hits over five innings. He felt good about his pitches on all three homers, however. "I came in and looked at all three of the home runs (on video)," Finnegan said. "The pitch that (Paul) Goldschmidt hit was in on his hands it wasn't even on the plate. It just wasn't my day.
