Tigers optioned 2B Will Rhymes to Triple-A Toldeo.
The writing was on the wall when Ramon Santiago got the start at second base Monday night. Rhymes entered the year as the starting second baseman, but batted just .221/.321/.235 with one double and two RBI over 81 plate appearances. Carlos Guillen isn't anywhere close to returning, so the Tigers are much better off seing what Scott Sizemore can do.

Will Rhymes will start at second base on Opening Day for the Tigers.
Carlos Guillen is expected to miss at least the first three weeks of the regular season due to a knee issue and Scott Sizemore was cut from camp Tuesday. That leaves Rhymes, a 27-year-old with limited major league experience, as the main man. He can be avoided in mixed fantasy leagues but may hold value in AL-only formats.

Will Rhymes went 4-for-5 with three runs scored against the Indians on Sunday.
Rhymes doubled once and singled three times while also driving in a run. Rhymes now has three multi-hit games in four outing since returning from the minors and will continue to fill-in for Carlos Guillen at second base. There's no power to speak of here, but it wouldn't be completely surprising if Rhymes could maintain a solid average and steal a few bases from here on out. Those in deep AL-only leagues could do worse up the middle.

Rhymes batted .259/.310/.352 with four extra-base hits and four RBI in 54 at-bats during his previous stint with the big club this season. The 27-year-old doesn't have much power to speak of, but his speed is worth a grab in AL-only formats.

Rhymes had the first three-hit game of his career on Sunday, but will be shipped out to make room for the return of starting second baseman Carlos Guillen. The 27-year-old Rhymes could return in September.

The Tigers will option 2B Will Rhymes to Triple-A Toledo on Monday to make room for Carlos Guillen's return from the disabled list.
Rhymes hit .259 with four RBI in 15 games for the Tigers. Guillen has been out since July 25 with a calf injury. He's expected to rejoin the lineup Monday against the Rays.

Rhymes doubled, walked, and singled twice. The tiny second basemen has been filling in for Carlos Guillen, but he's mostly struggled en route to a .259 average with no homers or steals. Guillen could be back as early as Monday, but Rhymes doesn't figure to have value in AL-only leagues regardless.

Rhymes was batting .304 with 20 steals at Toledo. The diminutive second baseman will provide depth with the injury to Carlos Guillen.
