3B David Wright has terminated his rehabilitation assignment and will be examined in New York later this week to determine next steps. "After playing in a few games, I continued to have shoulder pain," Wright said Monday. "So, I decided to go to the doctor and get it checked out. Will make any decisions going forward after my appointment." Wright was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on April 20 with what's described as cervical disc herniation. The seven-time All-Star is the longest tenured player with one team. "It's tough for him," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "Everybody knows he put every bit of effort into it to make it work. I talked to him before yesterday and he decided he couldn't play yesterday. You just salute the fact that he gave it his best shot. We'll see what the doctor has to say now and I'm sure David will make the decision that's in his best interest along with the ballclub's."

3B David Wright (neck surgery) halted his rehabilitation assignment, at least temporarily. "After playing in a few games, I continued to have shoulder pain," Wright said in a statement released by the Mets. "So I decided to go to the doctor and get it checked out. Will make any decisions going forward after my appointment."Wright played designated hitter for Class A St. Lucie on Aug. 22, then played consecutive games at third base on Friday and Saturday, but he did not play the next two days. He is a combined 1-for-10 through three games. Wright, 34, has not played for the Mets since May 2016. He will be re-examined in New York later this week.

3B David Wright (shoulder, back) was 0-for-3 and played five innings on Saturday for Port St. Lucie in the Class A Florida State League. Wright was 1-for-10 in his first three rehab games. The Mets are hopeful he could play for them at some point this season.

3B David Wright (neck, back, shoulder) was scheduled to participate in baseball activities Thursday at the Mets' spring training complex in Florida. Wright played in his first game in almost 15 months Tuesday, when he went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter for Class A St. Lucie. He was scheduled to again serve as the designated hitter for St. Lucie on Wednesday night, but the game was rained out. Wright is expected to begin working in the field soon, though it is unclear if he will be able to play the field this season. Mets manager Terry Collins said this week the team would be happy if Wright can return as a pinch-hitter in September. Wright has not played in the majors since May 27, 2016. He underwent neck surgery on June 16, 2016 and was sidelined this spring by a shoulder impingement and lower back soreness. Wright, who is also battling spinal stenosis, has three years remaining on his contract after this season. He batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games last season.

3B David Wright (back, neck) began a long-awaited rehab assignment Tuesday night, when he went 0-for-4 while playing the entire game at designated hitter for Single-A St. Lucie. The game action was the first of any kind for Wright since his most recent major league game on May 27, 2016. Wright, who missed 115 games in 2015 after being diagnosed with spinal stenosis, underwent neck surgery on June 16, 2016. He reported to spring training with hopes of playing early this season but was sidelined by a shoulder impingement as well as lower back soreness. Mets manager Terry Collins said Tuesday afternoon he hopes Wright will be able to serve as a bench bat for the Mets in September, though he cautioned it was too soon to know if that was a realistic option. Wright, who has three years remaining on his contract after this season, batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games last season.

3B David Wright took a step forward from neck, shoulder and back injuries by beginning what assistant GM John Ricco called "low-level baseball activity" at the team's Port St. Lucie, Fla., complex. Wright arrived there Tuesday and played catch, took ground balls and hit off a tee that day and repeated the drills Wednesday without issue. Wright last played a major league game on May 27, 2016. He has made at least two attempts to get back that have been stopped by shoulder issues related to his previous neck surgery. Ricco said, "Given how long it's been (since he played for the Mets), I think we're just going to take it a day at a time. I don't think we're looking too far ahead. We're just going to see how it goes over these next few days, few weeks."

3B David Wright (neck, back, shoulder) may be running out of time to play this season. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Friday that Wright, who hasn't appeared in a big league game since May 27, 2016, is currently undergoing physical therapy in California and is still 3-5 weeks away from resuming baseball activities. Alderson hinted any delay in that timetable would make it difficult for Wright to return in 2017. Wright underwent neck surgery on June 16, 2016, and battled a shoulder impingement during spring training as well as lower back soreness in April. The latter ailment is particularly concerning for Wright, who was diagnosed with spinal stenosis in 2015. Wright batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games last season.

3B David Wright (back, shoulder, neck) was transferred from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. Wright's recovery from neck surgery last June 16 was slowed by a shoulder impingement he suffered in early March as well as a recent bout with the flu and lower back soreness. The latter ailment may be of particular concern to Wright, who was diagnosed with spinal stenosis in 2015. General manager Sandy Alderson is hopeful Wright will play for the Mets this season, though he did not want to estimate when he might debut. Wright hit .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games last season.

3B David Wright (shoulder, neck) is expected to begin baseball activities this week. General manager Sandy Alderson said Wright's timetable was pushed back due to a recent bout with the flu as well as some lower back soreness. The latter ailment is particularly concerning, since Wright was diagnosed with spinal stenosis in 2015. Alderson said he is confident Wright will play in the majors this season but that he can't provide a timetable for when he might return to the Mets. Wright has not played at any level since last May 27. He underwent season-ending neck surgery on June 16 and suffered a shoulder impingement shortly after he started a throwing program in March. Wright batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games last season.

3B David Wright, who is rehabbing an offseason shoulder injury, resumed throwing last Friday, but there is still no timetable for the veteran's return. Wright has constantly battled injuries the past couple of years, playing in fewer than 40 games in each of the last two seasons. In 2016, Wright hit .226 -- a career low -- in 37 games and 137 at-bats with seven homers and 14 RBIs. Jose Reyes, who has played primarily shortstop in his career, has been the Mets' everyday third baseman through seven games this season.

3B David Wright (neck, shoulder) was placed on the 10-day disabled list Sunday, retroactive to March 30. Wright, whose 2016 season ended when he underwent cervical discectomy and fusion surgery on his neck June 16, developed a shoulder impingement shortly after he began throwing in March. He has yet to resume throwing, though he did take batting practice prior to Monday's season opener. Wright, who was diagnosed with spinal stenosis in 2015, batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games last season.

3B David Wright (shoulder, neck) collected just four at-bats (all as DH) in spring training games before being sidelined by a shoulder impingement. Wright, who underwent neck surgery last June, is basically re-teaching himself to throw and is unlikely to appear in the major leagues until at least May.
Fri Oct 7 201602:363B David Wright expected to begin rehab program in early October
3B David Wright is expected to begin a rehab program in early October. Wright, who played in just 37 games this season before undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disk in his neck on June 16, spent the last several weeks of the regular season working with a back specialist in Los Angeles. He is expected to undergo his next checkup in December, after which Wright could begin baseball activity. Wright, who still looked gaunt when he was introduced prior to the Mets' loss to the Giants in the NL wild-card game, acknowledged following the defeat that he doesn't know if he can remain healthy after playing in just 75 games the last two years due to the neck injury and spinal stenosis. He said a position change to first base is not likely because that would be as demanding on him as third base. Wright, who is signed through 2020, batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs this season.

3B David Wright (neck) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday. The move made room for INF Jose Reyes -- who is expected to be Wright's replacement at third base -- on the active roster. Wright went on the disabled list June 3, retroactive to May 30, with a herniated disk in his neck and underwent a surgery described as a "cervical discetomy and fusion" on June 16. He said last week he has to rest for three months, which rules out a return to the Mets this season. Wright batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games. He played in just 38 regular-season games in 2015 due to spinal stenosis.

3B David Wright, who underwent neck surgery June 16, spoke before the game and acknowledged he is likely out for the year. Wright, looking several pounds lighter and sporting a beard because he cannot shave until the surgical bandage is taken off the front of his neck, said he is still experiencing limited mobility and can't watch the game in the dugout because he can't make or absorb any sudden movements.
Sat Jul 2 201601:59Mets' Wright discloses gory details of surgery
NEW YORK -- David Wright looked almost unrecognizable Friday afternoon, when the New York Mets' third baseman and captain discussed a topic that has become increasingly familiar over the years: An injury that threatens his season, if not his status as an everyday major-leaguer.Wright spoke to reporters for 20 candid and often graphic minutes Friday about the neck surgery he underwent June 16. The Mets officially described it as a "cervical discetomy and fusion," which in layman's terms is ..."They went in, removed the disk, removed the fragments and whatever the substance inside the disc was, off my spine," said Wright, who batted .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games before undergoing surgery."They put in a little metal cage they fit into the space the disc was in, stuck a halibut drill into my hip, put bone marrow from the hip into the metal cage to help with the fusion. They put screws and a metal plate to help like it's a broken arm."Then you're as good as new."Wright's sense... [More]

3B David Wright (herniated disk in his neck) underwent surgery Thursday. In a press release issued just before the first pitch Thursday night, the Mets described the procedure as a "cervical discectomy and fusion." The team has not issued a timetable yet for his return, but manager Terry Collins said Thursday afternoon it was reasonable to expect Wright to be out until at least September. The neck injury is just the latest setback for Wright, who hasn't played since May 27. He suffered a stress fracture in his lower back in 2011, a right hamstring injury in 2013 and a left shoulder injury in 2014 before being diagnosed with spinal stenosis last season. Wright is batting .226 with seven homers and 14 RBIs in 37 games.

Wright, 33, attempted rest and anti-inflammatory injections before agreeing with Watkins that surgery was necessary. Wright was batting .226 with seven homers in 37 games before being shut down.
