Thu Jan 20 2011 | 13:31 | Eric Chavez has workout with Dodgers |
Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports that Eric Chavez worked out for the Dodgers on Thursday. |
According to Gurnick, Chavez could share time at third base with Casey Blake. The Blue Jays and Mariners are also reportedly interested in the oft-injured Chavez. He'd almost certainly have to accept a minor league contract at this point. And frankly, we're not expecting much. |

He'll almost certainly have to accept a minor league contract in order to continue his career. The oft-injured Chavez has played a grand total of 154 games since the start of the 2007 season. Crasnick floats the Mariners as one possible destination. |

According to Mike Silverman of the Boston Herald, Eric Chavez is attempting yet another comeback. |
"Eric's looking for the right opportunity, at the right time but his hope and desire is to be playing next season," said Chavez's agent Scott Leventhal, who added that his client is holding "pretty strenuous workouts" five days a week at Athletes Performance in Arizona and "from our perspective, is completely healthy." Silverman reports that the Dodgers are expected to bring him in for a workout, but it's hard to see anyone giving the oft-injured Chavez anything more than a spring training invite. |

Wed Nov 3 2010 | 17:00 | Chavez considering a 'change of scenery' |
Eric Chavez said Wednesday that he is considering playing baseball again in 2011 but with a "change of scenery." |
The A's rightfully declined Chavez's $12.5 million option for 2011 on Wednesday afternoon. He's battled injuries often and is no longer a valuable major league commodity, but he could land a small contract and try to revitalize his career in another uniform. Chavez is only 32. |

The biggest no-brainer of them all. He'll receive a $3 million buyout from the club, instead. A wide range of injuries have limited Chavez to just 154 games since the start of the 2007 season. The six-time Gold Glove Award winner is currently considering retirement. |

Eric Chavez (neck) will meet with the A's next Thursday to determine the next course of action for him. |
Chavez has missed most of the season due to bulging disks in his neck. He recently played in a rehab game for the A's Rookie League club in Arizona, but it's the only game action he's seen since landing on the DL in mid-May. Chavez said earlier this month that for the first time he's begun to consider retirement. He would like to return to the A's in September, but only if it doesn't disrupt the team. |

Eric Chavez (neck) told Jane Lee of MLB.com that he is "days away" from swinging a bat, however he is not sure if he'll ever play again. |
"I don't know if I'll every play again, I really don't," said Chavez. "But I'm going to try. I'm not going to get on any type of official schedule. My goal is to be back in Oakland by September. It may be in uniform, it may be out of uniform. I'm not really sure yet. But I've been working out and, physically, I'm feeling really good. I'm just going to start trying to do some baseball activities and see what happens. But, I'm literally going to take it day by day and not put a stamp on a plan." This might be the last gasp for him. Retirement is starting him in the face should he run into another roadblock. |

Sat Jun 5 2010 | 09:30 | Chavez to return to Oakland to begin rehab |
Eric Chavez (neck) is targeting Monday for his return to Oakland to begin working out with the team. |
To borrow a phrase from the late Mark Twain, rumors of Chavez's pending retirement were greatly exaggerated. Chavez is still a ways away from returning to the A's lineup, but he'll at least be around the team as he works his way back from the two bulging discs in his neck. The A's are 8-5 since Chavez was placed on the DL on May 22. |

Mon May 24 2010 | 10:48 | A's Chavez rehabbing, not retiring |
Eric Chavez reiterated his desire to rehab through his neck injury and his belief that it is not a career threatening injury in a text message to Susan Slusser |
When he was placed on the disabled list, Chavez sounded a lot less sure of these facts, but he may have gotten some good news in the intervening period. There hasn't been any new information as to how long he could be out with the injury, but if he's determined to make it back to A's lineup, we'll keep an eye on his progress. He was hitting just .234/.276/.333 with one home run and 10 RBI in 33 games before this injury. |
