Sun May 23 201016:50Chavez says his career might be over
Eric Chavez (neck) acknowledged on Saturday that his career might be over.
"It might be," Chavez said. "I don't know what the future's going to hold." He was placed on the disabled list on Saturday with two bulging disks in his neck. Chavez, 32, was in line for decreased at-bats, anyway, with Jack Cust back up. In addition, Chavez was batting just .234/.276/.333 with one home run and 10 RBI in 33 games. Stay tuned for his decision.

Sat May 22 201013:07Chavez placed on 15-day disabled list
Athletics placed DH Eric Chavez on the 15-day disabled list with neck spasms.
Chavez just hasn't been good for the A's this year and now he's hurt again. Most of his at-bats were heading to Jack Cust anyway, since Chavez wasn't breaking out of his early season malaise at the plate. He was hitting just .234/.276/.333 with one home run and 10 RBI in 33 games.
Wed May 12 201000:21Athletics' Chavez hits first homer
Eric Chavez went 2-for-4 and finally hit his first homer Tuesday versus the Rangers.
Chavez has collected five hits in his last three games to raise his average to .250. Still, he's been a putrid DH for the A's thus far, and the team would clearly be better served by employing Jack Cust in the spot.
Tue May 11 201009:27Chavez not feeling so hot physically
Eric Chavez (neck, back) told the San Jose Mercury News on Monday that he hasn't felt strong physically this year.
"It's been so up and down for me. I'm just not feeling the best that I know I can feel," Chavez said. "And the only reason I say that is because there are days when I do feel good. So I know what the opposite side of that is." He's hitting just .239 in 88 at-bats as the A's semi-regular DH. If the struggles continue, look for the club to call up Jack Cust from Triple-A.

Thu Apr 15 201009:00Chavez OK platooning with Fox at DH
Eric Chavez said he's OK with platooning with Jake Fox as the A's designated hitter.
"We need to get Foxy some at-bats," said Chavez. "Bob told me in advance what I'm going to be doing, what I'm not going to be doing. My goal is to be (healthy) at the end of the year. And the pace I've been going at really gives me a good chance to do that." Chavez is 5-for-25 (.200) with one RBI to begin the season while Fox is 1-for-15 (.067) with one home run and two RBI. Both are worthy of consideration in AL-only leagues, though Fox has more upside.

Mon Apr 5 201023:30Chavez unsure of role on Athletics
Eric Chavez, who was in the starting lineup as the designated hitter on Monday, is unsure what his role will be this season.
"Nobody's told me one thing," said Chavez, "but having to DH, I could play more games. Not throwing a baseball gives me the best opportunity to do that. They're obviously giving me the opportunity to do that, so I'm going to take advantage of it." Chavez played 13 games at first base during spring training, but plans changed over the weekend after the club designated DH Jack Cust for assignment. Health is always a concern here, but with regular at-bats, he's worth real consideration in AL-only leagues.
