Thu Jun 23 201114:31Chavez (foot) begins running
Eric Chavez (foot) said he felt fine after running from home to first base approximately six times Thursday.
It doesn't sound like much, but this is a big step forward in his recovery from a fractured left foot. Chavez is already taking batting practice and fielding, so he just needs to feel comfortable running before being cleared for a minor legue rehab assignment.

Mon Jun 20 201122:49Chavez (foot) takes BP Monday
Eric Chavez (foot) took batting practice on the field Monday for the first time since going on the disabled list in early May.
Chavez also continued fielding grounders at the Yankees' spring training complex in Florida. While he is running regularly on a treadmill, he has yet to test his fractured left foot on flat ground. Thus, it's unlikely he'll rejoin the Yankees before the end of the month.

Sat Jun 18 201116:13Chavez taking grounders and hitting in cage
Eric Chavez (foot) was able to take groundballs as well as hit in the batting cage on Saturday.
Chavez could take batting practice on the field within the next few days. The oft-injured veteran was batting .303 with a .410 on-base percentage over his first 39 plate appearances prior to breaking a bone in his left foot in early May. His current timetable calls for a late-June return.

Thu May 12 201118:50Chavez gets walking boot removed from foot
Eric Chavez had the walking boot removed from his bruised left foot on Thursday afternoon.
Chavez was originally diagnosed with a broken bone in his left foot, but recent tests have revealed that he only suffered a bone bruise. That may speed up his recovery time a bit. "We're hoping for just a few weeks," Chavez said Thursday. "When I went and saw the doctor, it was about as good a diagnosis as I could get."

Thu May 5 201116:48Yanks place Chavez on DL with broken foot
Yankees placed 3B Eric Chavez on the 15-day disabled list with a broken bone in his left foot.
Chavez suffered a small fracture of his fifth metatarsal on Thursday and is going to be out for over a month while in recovery mode. The situation will likely mean more playing time at the hot corner for Alex Rodriguez, which is both a good and bad thing for fantasy owners. We worry that A-Rod may get hurt or simply worn down.

Thu May 5 201115:33Chavez diagnosed with small fracture in foot
Eric Chavez was diagnosed with a small fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his left foot.
Chavez suffered the injury while legging out a triple during Thursday's game against the Tigers. It's not yet clear how much time he'll need to miss, but we're honestly surprised it's taken him this long to avoid injury.

Mon Mar 28 201116:18Eric Chavez makes Yankees' roster
Yankees purchased the contract of INF Eric Chavez.
While Chavez entered camp as a major question mark, he has batted .405 with one home run, four doubles and four RBI over 42 at-bats this spring. He'll function as a lefty bat off the bench, backing up first base and third. As long as he can stay healthy, that is.

Fri Mar 25 201122:08Eric Chavez continues hot spring
Eric Chavez continued his hot spring Friday, going 3-for-3 with a double and a solo home run in a 6-4 win over the Astros.
Chavez is now hitting a scalding-hot .421 over 38 spring at-bats, virtually assuring himself an Opening Day roster spot. He could be a solid bench bat if he manages to stay healthy, but obviously that's a major "if."

Tue Mar 22 201110:28Eric Chavez hoping to return on Friday

Chavez began feeling muscle spasms in his calf on Monday and will be given most of this week off to rest. "Calf is fine," the veteran said Tuesday morning. "No issue." He is expected to land on the Yankees' Opening Day roster as a backup corner infielder.

Mon Mar 21 201123:13Chavez sidelined with calf spasms
Eric Chavez is currently dealing with calf spasms.
At least it doesn't have anything to do with his neck or back issues of the past. It's not believed to be serious, but he's expected to be sidelined until Friday. As of now, he's projected to make the Opening Day roster as a backup at first base and the hot corner.

Eric Chavez went 3-for-3 with an RBI on Monday, raising his spring average to .471.
Chavez is 8-for-17. He has just one extra-base hit, a double. Still, he appears to be in good position to claim a spot on the Yankee bench if he can finish the spring healthy.

Tue Mar 1 201115:39Yankees' Chavez goes 2-for-3
Eric Chavez collected his first two hits of the spring Tuesday, singling twice against the Pirates.
They were two of just four hits for the Yankees on the day. Chavez has already started at both third and first since spring games began. He appears to be in good shape as far as claiming a roster spot as long as he stays healthy.
Wed Feb 9 201114:20Chavez's contract includes out-clause
Eric Chavez's minor league contract with the Yankees includes an out-clause if he doesn't make the roster by March 26.
In other words, if he doesn't make the team, he'll still have a few days to latch on elsewhere. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Chavez would earn a base salary of $1.5 million if he makes the Yankees roster. He has the potential to make an additional $700,000 based on time spent on the roster and $3.4 million in performance-based incentives.

Fri Feb 4 201119:43Yanks sign Eric Chavez to minor league deal
Yankees signed 3B Eric Chavez to a minor league contract.
It's a curious destination for Chavez, as the Yankees have Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira and Jorge Posada penciled into the spots where he would hope to earn some at-bats. It had seemed likely earlier this offseason that Chavez would retire, but he looked good in workouts, piquing the interest of some teams. It would take a rash of injuries in New York for him to see significant playing time.
Sun Jan 30 201111:45Report: Marlins considering Eric Chavez
The Palm Beach Post's Joe Capozzi reports that the Marlins are considering signing Eric Chavez as insurance for Matt Dominguez at third base.
There's suddenly a market for Chavez after the 33-year-old put on a better-than-expected display during a recent workout. The Marlins have Emilio Bonifacio and Wes Helms as fallback options if Dominguez doesn't work out, but Chavez could potentially offer a bit more offensively. The Blue Jays and Dodgers also have some interest in the former A.

Thu Jan 20 201121:04Dodgers raving about how well Chavez swung
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle heard from scouts Thursday that Eric Chavez swung the bat well in his private workout with the Dodgers.
Slusser says that the Dodgers were "raving" about how Chavez looked when "put through the paces." If they want him, they can probably have him. He's done some workouts with other teams around the league, but a quick offer should be met with a quick signature. With his recent injury history, he's probably going to have to settle for a minor league contract and spring invite.
