Sun Sep 6 201500:08Susac ruled out for season due to sprained wrist
Susac is ruled out for the season due to a sprained wrist, Andrew Baggarly of the Bay Area News Group reports.
The Giants were hoping Susac would be able to participate in winter ball, but it appears as if the 25-year-old will be on the shelf longer than initially anticipated. With Hector Sanchez suffering an injury Saturday, it's unclear who the Giants will call up to back-up Buster Posey.

Susac traveled back to San Francisco on Friday to have his sore right wrist examined, the Mercury News reports.
While the results of his exam have not been disclosed, Susac is expected to be unavailable "for awhile," according to Andrew Baggarly of the Bay Area News Group. The wrist issue has apparently lingered throughout most of the season, and there's a chance Susac could require surgery. The Giants will discuss adding another catcher from the minor league system.
Mon Aug 17 201516:33Susac (thumb) activated from 15-day disabled list Monday
Susac (thumb) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, and will catch and bat sixth for the Giants, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
Susac has seen spare time at catcher this season when Buster Posey plays first base, but Posey will get the full day off Monday in Susac's return to the lineup. The young backstop will continue serving as the secondary catcher, as the Giants optioned Hector Sanchez back to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

Susac (thumb) went 2-for-4 with a two-run bomb in Friday's rehab start with High-A San Jose.
This is great news for the young catcher, as the two-run blast is a good sign that his thumb has healed properly. Even more promising is that he caught fellow rehabbing teammate, Tim Hudson, behind the dish after acting as San Jose's DH for the past couple of days. Susac has proven to be a solid backup to Buster Posey this season, and will continue to serve that role. However, with both Nori Aoki (concussion) and Angel Pagan (knee) on the disabled list, there is a chance manager Bruce Bochy shuffles his defensive alignment to get Susac regular at-bats (Posey to first base, Brandon Belt to left field). We will see how that shakes up once he is called back up, but for now he will catch again for San Jose on Saturday and then the team will make a decision on his return after the game.

Susac (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A San Jose on Tuesday.
Susac was eligible to come off the DL on Monday, but he'll require some extra recovery time while battling a thumb injury. The catcher will only DH for San Jose on Tuesday, but he figures to log at least a game or two behind the plate before making his return to San Francisco.

Susac (thumb) isn't expected to be ready when first eligible to come off the disabled list Monday, but shouldn't require much time beyond it, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
Susac resumed throwing Saturday, but hasn't departed on a rehab assignment. It sounds as if it would be a short one if he goes at all, but the 25-year-old backstop should take over the backup duties behind the plate once activated.
Sat Aug 1 201512:33Susac (thumb) resumed throwing Friday
Susac (thumb) resumed throwing Friday, the Associated Press reports.
Susac will be eligible to return from the DL on Monday, but he may need a little extra time to head out on a rehab assignment before he's activated. Hector Sanchez will stick around as the Giants' backup catcher until the team feels comfortable bringing Susac back in the fold.
Sun Jul 19 201515:00An MRI on Susac's thumb revealed no ligament damage
An MRI on Susac's thumb revealed no ligament damage, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
The Giants went ahead and placed Susac on the disabled list Sunday, but he's only expected to require an additional 10 days to two weeks to recover from the thumb issue. Hector Sanchez was called up from Triple-A Sacramento to serve as Buster Posey's backup at catcher until Susac is deemed ready to play again.
Sun Jul 19 201514:25Susac (thumb) placed on 15-day DL Sunday
Susac (thumb) was placed on the 15-day DL Sunday.
Susac sprained his thumb while sliding in to third base Saturday, and as expected, it will result in a trip to the disabled list. Hector Sanchez was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move, and he'll serve as the primary backup to Buster Posey while Susac is on the shelf.
Sun Jul 19 201514:02Susac (hand) out of lineup Sunday against Diamondbacks
Susac (hand) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Susac is likely continuing to undergo tests on his injured thumb, as no announcement of a move to the disabled list has yet been made. It was highly speculated that a DL move would occur Sunday, but the Giants will continue to play the waiting game, even if it means they'll be a man short on the bench.
Sun Jul 19 201500:09Susac (thumb) likely headed to disabled list Sunday
Susac (thumb) is likely headed to the disabled list Sunday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Susac will undergo an MRI Sunday to rule out ligament damage to his right thumb from when he slid into third base. He will likely miss about 10 days. The Giants will likely make a corresponding roster move before the series finale Sunday.
Sat Jul 18 201522:37Susac diagnosed with a right thumb sprain
Susac was diagnosed with a a right thumb sprain.
Susac left Saturday's game after sliding and jamming his hand on third base. Buster Posey will remain the top catcher, but if Susac would miss any time, Aramis Garcia might see some innings behind the plate.

Susac left Saturday's game after appearing to jam his hand while sliding into third base, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Susac saw a trainer immediately after the injury and stayed in the game. The Giants should update his injury in the near future.
Mon Jul 13 201514:09Susac smashed three-run homer in Sunday's win over Phillies
Susac smashed a three-run homer in Sunday's win over the Phillies.
The homer was Susac's only hit in three plate appearances, but it proved to be the deciding blow in a 4-2 win. Susac has been seeing more at bats recently, but has failed to do much with the extra time, hitting just .104 (3-for-29) since June 30. He doesn't bring much to the fantasy table outside of deep two-catcher leagues, but he would definitely see his stock rise dramatically should anything happen to All-Star catcher, Buster Posey.
Sun Jun 28 201514:30Susac isn't in lineup Sunday against Rockies
Susac isn't in the lineup Sunday against the Rockies, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Susac's hot bat has allowed him to stick in the lineup in three of the last four games, but the Giants will stick with Buster Posey behind the plate and Brandon Belt at first base Sunday. Assuming the Giants are sufficiently satisfied with Belt's defense in the corner outfield -- where both Hunter Pence and Nori Aoki are out of the lineup with injuries -- Susac could find himself in the lineup more regularly if manager Bruce Bochy is looking to drum up more offense from his ranks.

Susac got the start behind the dish Friday, going 1-for-4 with his second homer of the season in the loss to the Rockies.
Manager Bruce Bochy indicated that he wanted to get Susac's bat into the lineup more regularly. He usually only gets the nod when a lefty is on the hill, but his last two starts have come against righties. We will likely see a couple extra starts a week for Susac while the Giants wait on the recovery of Nori Aoki (leg) and Hunter Pence (arm), with Brandon Belt sliding over to left field.

Susac started behind the dish Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two runs scored.
Susac got a rare start against a righty, as he usually sees spot starts when there is a southpaw on the mound. With both Nori Aoki (leg) and Hunter Pence (arm) set to miss some time, manager Bruce Bochy said that Susac's performance likely netted him more playing time. It would be tough to get him in the lineup as an everyday catcher, but we could see more frequent spot starts behind the dish with Posey moving to first base and Brandon Belt moving to left field.

Susac will likely be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, according to CSN's Andrew Baggarly.
Manager Bruce Bochy is planning to use Buster Posey as his designated hitter Wednesday, which will likely allow Susac to start behind the plate for the second time in three games. The Giants could go with Hector Sanchez instead of Susac, so be sure to check the team's starting lineup if you are planning to start a Giants catcher Wednesday.
Tue Apr 28 201520:10Susac not in lineup Tuesday against Dodgers
Susac is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.
Susac will head to the bench after starting back-to-back games for San Francisco, as Buster Posey moves back in from first base. Manager Bruce Bochy recently told CSN Bay Area that Brandon Belt will start getting more work in left field as a way to work Belt, Posey and Susac into the same lineup.
Sat Apr 18 201518:02Susac recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday
Susac was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.
With Jake Peavy (back) landing on the DL, the Giants went ahead and added a third catcher in Susac. Susac impressed down the stretch last season with the major league team and got off to a 7-for-20 start with Sacramento this year, but it's hard to imagine his stint with the big club will be a long one.
