Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Memphis following Thursday's game.
Garcia performed moderately well in his second time up with the Cardinals, going 2-for-8 with two walks and serving mostly as a pinch hitter. He will still be a part of the Cardinals' infield depth going forward and should see a return to the major league squad during September call-ups.

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.
Mark Ellis' placement on the DL with an oblique strain has created an opening in the middle infield for St. Louis, one which Garcia will fill for the time being. The 25-year-old has hit .273/.358/.385 with eight homers in 103 games with Memphis this season, but like Kolten Wong, he's a lefty swinger, so he'll likely just provide depth in the short term.

Cardinals optioned INF Greg Garcia to Triple-A Memphis.
The Cards won Tuesday's game when Garcia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the 12th inning, but the young infielder finds himself back in the minors the next day. It's no surprise given his lack of playing time (10 at-bats in over three weeks). He'll go back to playing second base and shortstop at Memphis.

The 24-year-old had a solid spring, slashing .313/.450/.313 with three RBI in 16 at-bats, but it wasn't enough to secure a spot on the Cardinals bench. It's likely that he'll get an opportunity with the Cards at some point during the 2014 season.
