Brian Schneider hit a walkoff homer in the bottom of the 12th inning Thursday to lift the Phillies over the Reds 4-3.
It was Schneider's only hit, but it sure was a meaningful one. He had been out of the Phillies' lineup since Friday due to a sprained right thumb, but should see a good chunk of time alongside Dane Sardinha now that he is once again feeling healthy. Schneider is hitting .250 with three home runs.

Sat Jul 3 201009:47Schneider expected to avoid DL
The Phillies don't expect to place Brian Schneider on the DL because of his sprained right thumb.
Schneider had the thumb wrapped in a splint before Friday's game, and manager Charlie Manuel said he would try to avoid using him this weekend against the Pirates, but it sounds like he'll avoid the DL. That's really good news for the Phillies since Carlos Ruiz is out with a concussion and his return date is unknown. Dane Sardinha will handle the catching duties while Schneider recovers.

Thu Jul 1 201020:21Schneider leaves with hand injury
Brian Schneider left Thursday's game due to a hand injury. He was replaced by Dane Sardinha.
Not good news for the Phils, as Carlos Ruiz is already on the disabled list with a concussion. If Schneider is sidelined for a while, Sardinha would see the lion's share of playing time behind the dish and Paul Hoover would be a candidate to be recalled.

Brian Schneider (Achilles) is expected to rejoin the Phillies on May 24, the first day that he is eligible to do so.
Schneider was placed on the 15-day disabled list just last week with a strained Achilles tendon. That's normally a fairly serious injury, but the veteran is already running and catching. His return to the 25-man roster should spell the end of Paul Hoover's stint in the big leagues.

Brian Schneider has been diagnosed with a left Achilles strain and will undergo an MRI Saturday night to confirm the diagnosis.
Schneider has managed just 18 at-bats this season as backup to Carlos Ruiz, so it wouldn't be a big hit to the Phillies if he were to hit the disabled list. He's batting .167/.286/.167 in those 18 tries.
