Sat Aug 21 201013:01Padres could be interested in Hawpe
The Padres could be interested in Brad Hawpe, who was recently designated for assignment and who will be released in a matter of days.
Hawpe would like to land somewhere where he can play every day, but that probably wouldn't happen in San Diego. They could move Ryan Ludwick to left field and put Hawpe in right, but that seems unlikely. He'd likely get a couple starts per week while sharing time with Will Venable and Scott Hairston.

Fri Aug 20 201014:18Giants considering Hawpe
The Giants are reportedly considering at attempt to sign Brad Hawpe once he clears waivers.
San Francisco would seem to be an unlikely destination for Hawpe, given that he wants to play regularly and build his value headed into free agency. Also, for what it's worth, he's hit just .217/.356/.396 in 106 at-bats at AT&T Park. He's a career .274/.369/.471 hitter outside of Coors Field.

Thu Aug 19 201016:22Red Sox 'unlikely' to sign Brad Hawpe
Two baseball sources told Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald Thursday that the Red Sox are "unlikely" to sign Brad Hawpe.
So far, we've heard the Rangers mentioned the most in connection with Hawpe. And it makes a lot of sense, really. The Rays, White Sox, Twins and Phillies are also thought to be potential destinations. Hawpe was placed on release waivers today and will be eligible to sign with a new team early next week.

Thu Aug 19 201012:48Hawpe can't sign with a team until Mon or Tue
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, Brad Hawpe won't clear release waivers until Monday or Tuesday.
Once he does, he will be free to sign with any team. Rosenthal writes that the White Sox, Rangers and Rays are the "most logical" fits for Hawpe, but since he'll be paid the prorated major league minimum the rest of the way, he could make sense for any number of teams. Rosenthal even drops the Twins as a possibility, presumably as a backup plan for Justin Morneau.

Thu Aug 19 201009:17Rockies release OF Brad Hawpe
Rockies released OF Brad Hawpe.
Hawpe was already going to be a free agent after the season, but the Rockies decided to cut him loose six weeks early. The 31-year-old was batting just .255/.343/.432 with seven homers and 37 RBI this season. Looking ahead, he's likely to be more valuable in the American League, where his subpar defense can be hidden in the DH spot. The Rangers, Red Sox and White Sox are known to have some interest.
Wed Aug 18 201016:02Report: Brad Hawpe clears waivers
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that Brad Hawpe has cleared waivers.
Hawpe can now be traded to any team. The Rockies are expected to make a move rather quickly. He should drum up some interest, but it's worth noting that he's hitting just .175 with two homers, four RBI and a 642 OPS since the All-Star break. His contract includes a $10 million club option for next season or a $500,000 buyout. It's possible that the Rockies just cut bait with him if they don't find a deal to their liking.

Tue Aug 17 201020:31Rockies could soon be done with Hawpe
Troy Renck of the Denver Post speculates that the Rockies could soon make a move with Brad Hawpe.
We already know that Hawpe was placed on waivers this week, so assuming he passes through without a problem, the Rockies will be able to trade him to any team. The Rockies currently have only six pitchers in their bullpen, so Renck expects Hawpe to get moved to clear a spot for a reliever. Stay tuned.

Fri Jul 30 201013:59Tigers, White Sox looking at Hawpe
According to the Denver Post's Troy Renck, Brad Hawpe remains on the radar for the Tigers and White Sox.
If the Rockies are going to sell, Hawpe is a good place to start. The team should have better ways of spending the $10 million he's due next year if his option is picked up. A Seth Smith-Dexter Fowler-Carlos Gonzalez outfield would be a whole lot better defensively.

Wed Jul 28 201000:34Hawpe hits home run in return to lineup
Brad Hawpe returned to the Rockies lineup with two hits and a home run Tuesday night against the Pirates.
The return was noteworthy because manager Jim Tracy had been talking about holding Hawpe out until he had his mechanics in line. The home run was noteworthy because it was his first in five weeks, and it was off a lefty. He's traditionally struggled against lefties in his career. He's still a solid hitter and worthy of a mixed-league bench spot when he's going well, as bad as it may seem now.

Rockies manager Jim Tracy said that he wants Brad Hawpe to work on his swing mechanics before re-entering the lineup.
"Let's face it: we are trying to get Brad Hawpe right. He's not right," said Tracy. "I will be trying to do and find situations that make sense for him (in the game)." Hawpe is just 5-for-25 (.200) this month and hasn't homered since June 20. Seth Smith started in right field on Thursday.
