Fri Jun 21 201321:45Deduno allows four earned runs in loss
Samuel Deduno allowed four runs on six hits over six innings in Friday's loss to the Indians.
He gave up two walks and had six strikeouts. His line would have looked a lot better had the Twins' bullpen not allowed two of his inherited runs to score. Deduno will look to improve on his 3.72 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in his next start Thursday against the Royals.

Sat Jun 15 201322:22Deduno moves to 3-1 as Twins beat Tigers
Samuel Deduno limited the Tigers to two runs in seven innings Saturday in the Twins' victory.
Deduno was solid, scattering five singles and two doubles while allowing just one walk and striking out two. He's 3-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 30 1/3 innings, but the peripherals aren't great and he's probably due for a blowup. We wouldn't trust him next week in Cleveland.

Wed Jun 5 201300:06Deduno blanks Royals in Twins' 3-0 victory
Samuel Deduno held the Royals scoreless over six innings to pick up the win in the Twins' 3-0 victory on Tuesday.
The start was Deduno's second impressive outing in a row, as he allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out five on the night. The outing lowered his ERA to 3.44 through three starts. His next start will come Sunday against the Nationals.

Thu May 30 201300:27Deduno goes seven strong, Twins beat Brewers
Samuel Deduno allowed just one run over seven innings as the Twins beat the Brewers 4-1 on Wednesday.
It was a nice effort from Deduno after being lit up in his first start of the season on May 24. Deduno limited the Brewers to four hits and two walks in the outing, and the win moved his record to 1-1. He flashed some upside in the World Baseball Classic, but we'll need to see more efforts like Wednesday's before advocating for the right-hander. He'll have the opportunity to show us more in his next start, Tuesday against the Royals.

Fri May 24 201321:46Deduno destroyed by Tigers in season debut
Samuel Deduno was hammered by the Tigers in his season debut on Friday, surrendering six runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings of work.
Deduno also walked three and struck out two on the evening. While the Twins are starved for quality options in their starting rotation, perhaps Deduno may not be the optimal choice. Assuming he sticks around to make another start, he'll do battle against the Brewers at home on Wednesday. He remains a non-factor in all fantasy leagues.

Fri May 24 201313:15Samuel Deduno called up from minors
Twins purchased the contract of RHP Samuel Deduno from Triple-A Rochester.
He'll get the start on Friday against the Tigers. Deduno was great during the World Baseball Classic before putting up a 2.70 ERA and 17/10 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings over three starts with Rochester. It's possible he could have some AL-only value.

Tue May 21 201312:35Twins calling up RHP Deduno to start Friday
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Tuesday that Samuel Deduno will be called up from Triple-A Rochester to start Friday's game against the Tigers.
In other words, Kyle Gibson's major league debut will have to wait. Deduno, who had a breakthrough performance during the World Baseball Classic, has a 2.70 ERA and 17/10 K/BB ratio in 16 2/3 innings over three starts with Triple-A Rochester since returning from a groin injury. He'll have a pretty tough first matchup, so fantasy owners should steer clear for now.

Twins reassigned RHPs Samuel Deduno and P.J. Walters to minor league camp.

Tue Mar 19 201323:50Deduno shines as Dominican wins 2013 WBC
Samuel Deduno was brilliant in the finale of the World Baseball Classic on Tuesday, scattering two hits and three walks over five shutout innings as the Dominican Republic topped Puerto Rico 3-0 to claim the title.
Octavio Dotel, Pedro Strop, Santiago Casilla and Fernando Rodney each worked a scoreless inning to complete the shutout. The bullpen for the Dominican Republic didn't allow a run in the final 25 2/3 innings of the tournament, and Team Dominica finished the 2013 WBC a perfect 8-0. Edwin Encarnacion provided the biggest blow in the final on Tuesday with a two-run double in the first inning. That came after Robinson Cano had been intentionally walked with a man at third and one out. The next World Baseball Classic is in 2017.

Thu Mar 14 201322:59Samuel Deduno terrific vs. USA
Samuel Deduno struck out seven while tossing four innings of one-run ball in Thursday's 3-1 win over the United States.
Deduno was shaky in the first, allowing three hits and walking in a run. He really settled in after that, though, and showed plenty of emotion on the mound. The game was tied heading into the ninth inning, when the Dominicans touched up closer Craig Zimbrel for a pair of runs. The Dominican Republic has advanced to the WBC's final round, while the USA will square off against Puerto Rico Friday in a do-or-die game.

Samuel Deduno got his left eye examined in the Twin Cities on Tuesday, and Twins general manager Terry Ryan said things "checked out fine."

Fri Sep 28 201219:51Deduno (eye) expected to be shut down
Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Friday that it's "more than likely" that Samuel Deduno (eye) is done for the season.
Deduno left Thursday's start with left eye irritation and apparently isn't getting much better. Assuming he's done, he'll finish the year with a 4.44 ERA and 57/53 K/BB ratio over 79 innings in 15 starts. Anthony Swarzak or Brian Duensing will replace him Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Sun Sep 23 201212:11Samuel Deduno to start on short rest
Samuel Deduno will start Wednesday against the Yankees on three days' rest.
Deduno threw just 53 pitches Saturday, when he was knocked around for seven runs over 2 1/3 innings. It was the second time in his last six outings that he's allowed at least seven runs. Deduno should be avoided in fantasy Wednesday.
