However, there's clearly some smoke with the fire. Crain has a 0.74 ERA in 36 2/3 innings this season, but is currently on the DL with a shoulder strain.

ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine reported Monday morning that a three-team swap featuring Crain was "close" to being finalized, but Passan says that the parties involved are still talking. Crain, 32, is currently on the disabled list with a shoulder injury that isn't showing much improvement. So that obviously complicates things.

According to ESPN Chicago's Bruce Levine, the White Sox are close to trading veteran setup man Jesse Crain as part of a three-team deal involving the Rays.
Levine calls the impending deal "complicated" because more than two teams are involved and Crain is currently on the disabled list with a lingering shoulder injury. The right-hander last pitched in the majors on June 29 and experienced a setback last week while trying to throw a bullpen session. There should be more details soon.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura confirmed that Jesse Crain (groin) will be ready for Opening Day.
Crain returned from a groin injury earlier this week and didn't report any setbacks after throwing a scoreless inning of relief Friday against the Brewers. With Crain healthy, the White Sox 25-man roster is now set.
