Sucre is not in the lineup Friday against the Angels.

Sucre started each of the last four games, but he'll take a seat Friday after going 0-for-10 in the last three contests. Steven Baron will get the start behind the plate and hit ninth.

The 27-year-old has failed to pick up his production since taking over the primary role from Mike Zunino, going 2-for-14 in his last four games. John Hicks wasn't great by any means at Triple-A Tacoma this season (.245/.282/.362), but the M's could opt to turn to him or back to Zunino more often down the stretch.

Sucre gets the start behind the plate on Monday, batting ninth against the Astros, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com.

Sucre has been seeing fairly regular playing time, despite hitting just .116 this season. He replaces John Hicks behind the plate.

Sucre went 1-for-4 Saturday with a solo shot, his first home run of the season.

More importantly for his possible future playing time though, he couldn't get on the same page with starter J.A. Happ, and the two required mound conferences seemingly after every pitch in a brutal second inning before Happ got the hook. If Sucre is butting heads with the Mariners' starters, the team may have to look elsewhere for a backup catcher.

Sucre was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

The Mariners designated Justin Ruggiano for assignment to make room for a backup catcher. Mike Zunino will start Thursday's game against the Rays, but Sucre should get into the lineup at some point this upcoming weekend.

Sucre will likely return to the Mariners to serve as the backup catcher, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.

Sucre saw steady time as the backup to Mike Zunino during April and early-May, but a .067 batting average left the team with much to be desired, and they eventually sought out Welington Castillo on the trade market. However, after Castillo was sent to Arizona in the deal to acquire 1B/OF/DH Mark Trumbo, the backup catcher position was once again vacant. Even if/when Sucre is called up, he holds little-to-no fantasy value.

This move was fully anticipated following the Mariners trading for Welington Castillo on Tuesday. Sucre will continue to provide organizational catching depth at the Triple-A level.

Sucre and Triunfel figure to ride the Tacoma-to-Seattle shuttle throughout the season as needed for extra catching and infield depth, respectively, while LaFromboise and Bawcom will get a shot in the MLB bullpen at some point in 2014 unless they implode on the farm. Choi is an intriguing bat who was added to the 40-man roster in November after slashing a robust .309/.411/.511 over 238 career minor league games. The Mariners now have 44 players in big league camp.
