Sun May 19 201317:29Wood allows three runs, Cubs lose to Brewers
Travis Wood allowed three earned runs over seven innings Sunday as the Cubs fell to the Brewers.
Wood was only decent, which was a disappointment considering how well he has pitched this season and how poor the Mets' lineup is. Wood gave up five hits and two walks, watching his ERA rise from 2.03 to 2.24 and his WHIP from 0.92 to 0.93. He'll try for better next time out against the Reds.

Mon May 13 201323:35Travis Wood shuts out Rockies for seven
Travis Wood allowed two hits over seven scoreless innings Monday as the Cubs crushed the Rockies 9-1.
We expect nothing less from baseball's best pitcher. Wood is now 8-for-8 turning in quality starts this season. He has a favorable assignment coming up with the Reds next on the schedule.

Tue May 7 201323:00Travis Wood cruises as Cubs beat Cardinals
Travis Wood held the Cardinals to one run over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday as the Cubs grabbed a 2-1 victory.
Yet another fine outing for the 26-year-old lefty, who now owns a 2.33 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 34 strikeouts in 46 1/3 innings this season. Wood fanned eight Cardinals batters, allowing only five hits and two walks. The only real damage came on a solo blast from Allen Craig in the top of the second inning. Wood will try to keep it rolling next week against the Rockies.

Sat Apr 27 201322:08Wood limits Marlins to two runs in win
Travis Wood limited the Marlins to two earned runs over six innings Saturday to earn his second victory.
Wood gave up two home runs -- including a first-inning bomb by Giancarlo Stanton -- but was otherwise solid. He yielded only three hits in all, striking out five batters against one walk. The 26-year-old left-hander has been a nice surprise in a disappointing start to the 2013 season for Chicago. He'll carry a 2-1 record, 2.25 ERA and 0.97 WHIP into his next scheduled outing against the Padres.

Tue Apr 16 201323:30Travis Wood turns in another strong outing
Travis Wood allowed two runs in 7 1/3 innings, but he took the loss against the Rangers on Tuesday.
Wood didn't deserve his fate on Tuesday, as his lineup was shut down by opposing starter Derek Holland. The lefty now has a 1.83 ERA and 1.07 WHIP through three starts and is garnering attention in mixed leagues. His next start, Sunday against a struggling Brewers lineup, could also offer a nice return.

Wed Apr 10 201300:04Wood strong in no-decision vs. Brewers
Travis Wood allowed three runs -- two earned -- in 6 1/3 innings in the Cubs' win over the Brewers on Tuesday.
That's two straight quality starts for the 26-year-old. His second start wasn't as good as his first, but he was still good enough to deserve a better fate. The lefty now has a 1.46 ERA and 1.05 WHIP on the season. His mediocre strikeout numbers and, most likely, modest win total still relegates him to an NL-only option at this point. His next start will come against the Giants on Sunday.

Thu Apr 4 201315:27Wood goes six scoreless, Cubs beat Pirates
Travis Wood tossed six scoreless innings Thursday in the Cubs' 3-2 victory over the Pirates.
Carlos Marmol nearly blew Wood's win in the ninth inning, but a game-ending double play prevented that. Wood allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out four. He will take on the Brewers next time out.

Mon Mar 25 201319:44Travis Wood wild vs. Giants
Travis Wood walked four and allowed four runs over four innings Monday against the Giants.
He also surrendered seven hits and struck out just one in the ugly outing. Wood had been pitching really well this spring before today's hiccup, so it's nothing to worry about. He'll open the year in the Cubs' rotation.

Wed Oct 3 201217:32Travis Wood solid in no-decision
Travis Wood allowed one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Astros.
Wood also had a two-run single. Given the lineup the Cubs used, Wood probably should have been batting sixth today. Unfortunately, while he left with a lead, that was blown by Shawn Camp in the eighth, leaving Wood 6-13 with a 4.27 ERA for the season. He should be the Cubs' fourth or fifth starter next year.

Sat Sep 29 201201:05Travis Wood lousy in Arizona
Travis Wood was lousy in Friday's loss in Arizona, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks in five innings.
Wood surrendered two home runs, including a two-run shot off the bat of Justin Upton. The non-quality outing was his third straight, and leaves him with a 6-13 through 25 starts. However, if Wood takes the ball for Wednesday's season finale, he'll do so the owner of a 4.39 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through 149 2/3 frames. Those numbers are probably better than the Cubs were hoping for.

Sat Sep 22 201216:48Wood fans seven in no-decision vs. Cardinals
Travis Wood pitched fairly well in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over his five frames.
Wood also racked up seven strikeouts on the afternoon while walking two. He walked a run in to get the Cardinals on the board in the first inning, and they tacked on a pair in the third inning, only one of which was earned. He's held his own in the Cubs' rotation this season, compiling a 7-12 record, 4.23 ERA and 113/43 K/BB ratio in 144 2/3 innings. He'll look to continue his strong month of September when he takes on the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Sunday.

Travis Wood turned in a decent performance in Sunday's no-decision against the Giants, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
He struck out two and walked one in the game. Three straight RBI singles got the Giants on the board in the third inning, then they added another in the sixth on an RBI triple from Brandon Belt. Wood has struggled through his time in the Cubs' rotation this season, posting a 4-11 record, 4.64 ERA and 86/39 K/BB ratio over 120 1/3 innings. He'll attempt to turn things around when he takes on the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday.

Fri Aug 17 201222:10Travis Wood annihilated in loss to Reds
Travis Wood was annihilated in Friday night's loss to the Reds, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on nine hits over his five frames, including three home runs.
Wood struck out three and didn't walk a batter in the game. Ryan Ludwick blasted a solo shot in the fourth inning, then Todd Frazier quickly followed with a two-run shot. Jay Bruce capped off the damage with a solo homer in the fifth. Wood has struggled with the long ball all season, now serving up a whopping 21 dingers in just 100 2/3 innings. He'll take a disappointing 4-9 record and 4.83 ERA into Milwaukee where he'll battle the Brewers on Wednesday.

Todd Frazier got the Reds on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning, then Wood shut them down for the next handful of frames. After taking a 2-1 lead into the eighth, he allowed a leadoff double to Drew Stubbs before being removed in favor of James Russell. Russell surrendered consecutive hits, including a two-run double by Ryan Ludwick that put the Reds on top 3-2. Wood will take a 4-8 record, 4.61 ERA and 71/37 K/BB ratio into his next start against these same Reds in Cincinnati.

With the wind blowing out to right at Wrigley, Wood gave up one homer in each inning he pitched today. He's lost three starts in a row, giving up nine homers and 22 earned runs in the process. The Cubs, though, will probably stick with him and hope that the wind if blowing in for his next start against the Pirates.

Travis Wood reeled off his fourth straight quality start in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Astros, allowing just three hits across 7 2/3 scoreless innings.
He struck out four and walked none. A pleasant surprise for the Cubs this season, Wood is now the owner of a 3.05 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 39/20 K/BB ratio through 56 frames. He's a solid streaming option in mixed leagues.

Mon Jun 25 201222:55Travis Wood blanks Mets in win
Travis Wood tossed seven shutout frames in Monday's 6-1 win over the Mets.
Wood limited the Mets to just five hits while fanning six and walking one. It was the first time this season that he walked less than two batters in a start. The southpaw has allowed three runs or less in each of his last five starts and now owns a 3.54 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through eight starts overall. We wouldn't trust him quite yet in standard mixed leagues and the Cubs won't provide him with much run support, but he's someone to monitor.

Thu Jun 14 201217:11Travis Wood gives up three runs in loss
Travis Wood turned in a quality start Thursday but lost anyway after allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings against the Tigers.
Wood has given up more than three runs just once in six starts for the Cubs, but he has an 0-3 record anyway. Ryan Dempster can sympathize with him better than anyone.
