Thu Jul 3 201400:32Travis Wood gets pulled in fourth
Travis Wood yielded three runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Red Sox.
An uncharacteristically wild Wood walked four and hit a batter in the contest. He also gave up seven hits, so he was lucky to escape with only minimal damage to his ERA. Wood simply hasn't been of much use in mixed leagues this year.

Thu Jun 26 201423:00Wood takes no-decision with 3 ER in 6 2/3 IP
Travis Wood got a no-decision, allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings in Thursday's win over the Nationals.
Wood blanked the Nats over five, but allowed a run on an Anthony Rendon single in the sixth, and two more on a Denard Span double in the seventh before being lifted. Overall, Wood allowed seven hits, walked five, and struck out four. The lefty has been frustrating for fantasy owners due to his inconsistency. He'll take a 4.52 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP, and a 77/39 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Red Sox on the road.

Sun Jun 15 201416:38Wood goes eight scoreless, Cubs down Phillies
Travis Wood pitched eight scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, and the Cubs beat the Phillies 3-0 on Sunday.
Wood allowed just three singles on the afternoon while walking three. The southpaw also struck out six. The win was Wood's fifth in his last seven starts, moving him to 7-5 with a 4.48 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 14 starts. He'll look to keep it going Saturday against the Pirates.

Tue Jun 10 201422:53Wood gets 6th win with solid outing vs. PIT
Travis Wood improved to 6-5, allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings as the Cubs defeated the Pirates 7-3 on Tuesday.
Wood's season has been a very bumpy ride, but he looked in control for the most part on Tuesday. The lefty allowed nine hits -- including a two-run home run to Andrew McCutchen -- while walking two and striking out two. Wood lowered his ERA to 4.95 in the effort, which he'll look to deflate further in his next start against the Phillies on the road.

Thu Jun 5 201422:34SP Wood makes difference at the plate in win
Travis Wood got the no-decision, allowing two runs over five innings in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Mets.
Wood was mediocre on the mound, but made up for it at the dish with three runs batted in against Mets pitching. He blasted a two-run home run in the second inning -- his second of the season -- and knocked in a run with a ground out in the fourth. On the mound, he allowed four hits, walked five, and struck out three. His results haven't been nearly as good as they were last season, and he'll bring a 5.04 ERA into next week's road start against the Pirates.

Sat May 31 201400:20Wood rocked for seven runs in loss to Brewers
Travis Wood was knocked around for seven runs on 10 hits and one walk over just 2 2/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Brewers.
It was his shortest outing of the season. Wood dug an early hole by himself by giving up five runs in the first inning and simply failed to recover. The southpaw showed some signs of progress in his most recent two starts, but he took a big step back with this one, seeing his ERA go up to 5.15 for year. He'll attempt to rebound next week against the Mets at home.

Sun May 25 201400:58Travis Wood earns win over Padres
Travis Wood held the Padres to two runs and three hits over 7 1/3 innings to win Saturday.
As he so often does, Wood helped his own cause with an RBI single. While it's far from the only reason, it should be factored in that one of the reasons Wood is 5-4 with a 4.35 ERA while Jeff Samardzija is 0-4 with a 1.46 ERA is that the former is probably baseball's best hitting pitcher and the latter is down near the bottom. It made the difference in a 3-2 game tonight.

Sun May 18 201417:21Wood deals against the Brewers to pick up win
Travis Wood worked around some early control problems to pick up his fourth win of the season, allowing two runs in seven innings against the Brewers on Sunday.
Wood walked the bases loaded with two outs in the first inning, but escaped without allowing a run. Rickie Weeks put the Brewers on the board with a two-run home run in the fifth, but otherwise, Wood was sharp. The lefty allowed just two hits and the three walks while striking out seven. It was a nice change as Wood had been shaky in his previous two starts. Wood will have a very nice match-up in his next start, facing the Padres at Petco Park.

Tue May 13 201400:33Travis Wood picks up win in 17-5 game
Travis Wood was given an easy win after allowing five runs -- four earned -- in six innings Monday against the Cardinals.
The Cubs racked up nine runs in the first four innings, leaving Wood with several long waits before he could back to the mound. That might have had something to do with his shaky outing, but then, he wasn't very good in two of his previous three starts and he had no such excuses then.

Wed May 7 201423:49Travis Wood gives up eight runs to White Sox
Travis Wood had an off night on Wednesday, giving up eight runs in four innings against the White Sox.
Wood was probably frustrated about not being allowed to hit in the AL park. Besides giving up eight hits, he walked five on the night. He had walked a total of seven batters in six starts coming in. Chalk it up to a bad day. We're not big believers in Wood remaining useful in mixed leagues, but he's a fine NL-only starter.

Fri May 2 201417:57Travis Wood keeps Cardinals in check
Travis Wood limited the Cardinals to three runs -- two earned -- across seven innings in Friday's 6-5 win.
Wood out-dueled Adam Wainwright, allowing six hits while striking out six and not walking anyone. The left-hander moved to 2-3 on the season, but he's put up a nice 3.35 ERA and 1.25 WHIP to go along with a 37/7 K/BB ratio over 37 2/3 innings. He'll try to keep it going next week when the Cubs travel a few miles south to face the White Sox.

Sat Apr 26 201422:06Wood shelled for five runs in loss to Brewers
Travis Wood was shelled for five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Brewers.
Wood was shaky out of the gate, yielding one run in the first inning, and two runs in the second as the Brewers cruised to their 18th win in 24 games this season. Wood will try to bounce back next time out against the Cardinals. It's not a great fantasy matchup.

Tue Apr 22 201400:07Travis Wood pitches, hits Cubs past D'backs
Travis Wood allowed one run over seven innings and hit his first homer as part of a four-RBI night to lead the Cubs over the Diamondbacks 5-1 on Monday.
Wood showed that his three homers and .639 OPS from last season isn't a fluke; he had a three-run homer and an RBI double off Bronson Arroyo tonight. He also had one of his better outings on the mound for his first win in four starts. He has a 2.52 ERA, but run support has been an issue. It would have been tonight as well, had he not taken matters into his own hands.

Thu Apr 10 201418:01Travis Wood takes tough no-decision
Travis Wood took a no-decision after giving up one run in six-plus innings Thursday against the Pirates.
So foolish: manager Rick Renteria left Wood in to start the seventh, only to pull him immediately after a leadoff double. Not only is that a crummy way to run a pitching staff, but it gave the Pirates a much better pinch-hitting opportunity with Travis Snider hitting against a righty. Snider homered to account for the only run Wood allowed, and the Pirates ended up scoring five runs in the frame, costing Wood the victory in what had been a 4-0 game.

Thu Mar 27 201417:12Wood shuts out White Sox over three frames
Travis Wood tossed three shutout innings in Thursday's start against the White Sox.
Wood was sharp, allowing only two hits and walking one while striking out four. The Cubs hope Wood can defy the skeptics and continue pitching like he did last season, when he finished with a 3.11 ERA over 32 starts.

Sun Mar 16 201418:56Travis Wood fans eight in loss to Indians
Travis Wood delivered a strong performance in Sunday's loss to the Indians, racking up eight strikeouts over his five innings of work.
The veteran left-hander allowed a pair of runs on four hits in the contest and didn't walk a batter. He sports a 5.91 ERA on the Cactus League season, but Sunday's performance was much more indicative of how he pitched during his breakout 2013 campaign.

Tue Mar 11 201417:09Wood struggles against the Rockies
Travis Wood surrendered five runs in 2 2/3 innings in Tuesday's start against the Rockies.
Wood gave up nine hits and walked one without recording a strikeout. Despite pedestrian strikeout and walk rates last season, Wood finished with a 3.11 ERA. If today's outing is any indication, he'll have trouble reprising that performance this season.

Thu Mar 6 201417:22Wood fires three scoreless vs. Indians
Travis Wood tossed three scoreless innings in Thursday's start against the Indians.
Wood surrendered only one hit and struck out three. He's unlikely to replicate his 3.11 ERA from 2013 unless he gets lucky, but he be a valuable arm at the top of the Cubs' rotation anyway.

Fri Jan 24 201410:13Travis Wood, Cubs avoid arbitration at $3.9M
Cubs and LHP Travis Wood avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.9 million contract.
It's just above the midpoint of figures exchanged last week. Wood was arbitration-eligible for the first time after putting up a 3.11 ERA across 32 starts last season. He'll be a key part of the Cubs' rotation again in 2014.

Fri Jan 17 201419:07Wood, Cubs exchange arbitration figures
Travis Wood requested $4.25 million and was offered $3.5 million from the Cubs when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.
The 26-year-old southpaw is coming off an impressive 2013 season where he compiled a 3.11 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 144/66 K/BB ratio over 200 innings of work. He'll earn somewhere between the two figures, which represents a sizable raise over the $527,500 he took home in 2013.
