Thu Sep 30 201022:48Narveson limits Mets to one run
Chris Narveson limited the Mets to one run over 6 2/3 innings in Thursday's 9-2 win.
The left-hander gave up four hits, walked three and struck out a season-high tying nine. After spending most of April in the bullpen, Narveson started the rest of the way and had some peaks and valleys, but he's had a pretty nice second half, posting a 3.89 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 66/24 K/BB ratio over 81 innings. He should be locked into a rotation spot for 2011.
Mon Sep 13 201023:21Narveson fans seven, Brewers lose to 'Stros
Chris Narveson struck out seven batters over six innings of one-run ball Monday against the Astros but was left with a no-decision.
Narveson pitched brilliantly for a fourth straight start and is beginning to look like a quality streamer for the stretch run. The lefty allowed only one extra-base hit and did not issue a walk, improving his ERA to 5.05 and his WHIP to 1.40. His strikeout rate, at least for the last few weeks, has been great. We'll see if he can keep it rolling next week against the Giants.
Wed Sep 8 201000:43Narveson strikes out nine, wins eleventh
Brewer rookie Chris Narveson struck out nine and only allowed two earned runs and three walks in seven innings in a 4-2 win over the Cardinals Tuesday.
Narveson doesn't really have the strikeout punch or the groundball rate to sustain his recent success (he's had seven straight starts with fewer than three earned runs), but he's limiting the walks right now and is showing just enough to be a decent spot start option.
Wed Sep 1 201022:49Narveson does it yet again
Chris Narveson was impressive again on Wednesday night, this time limiting the Reds to one earned run over 6 1/3 innings as part of a no-decision.
Narveson held the Pirates to two earned runs over seven innings in his last start. The southpaw is prone to some ugly outings, but he now has 106 strikeouts in 136 2/3 innings. It's hard to trust Narveson against the Cardinals next time out, but he's on the NL-only radar.
Fri Aug 27 201023:22Narveson impessive in win
Chris Narveson impressively limited the Pirates to two earned runs over seven innings to earn his 10th win Friday night.
Narveson had really been struggling to go deep into games lately, so this is a boost of confidence. He struck out eight and walked just one, but let's remember that this came against the Pirates. Don't trust Narveson with the Reds on deck.
Mon Aug 9 201023:53Bullpen blows Narveson's win
Chris Narveson allowed three runs over six innings in Monday's loss to Arizona.
The southpaw gave up six hits, walked one and struck out three. He was in line for the win before John Axford blew his second save of the season. The left-hander has been pretty good in four of his last five starts, but he's been prone to blowups and his 5.62 ERA on the year is nothing to write home about. He has a rough matchup in Colorado later this week.
Thu Jul 8 201000:00Narveson gets blasted Wednesday
Chris Narveson lasted just 3 1/3 innings Wednesday, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) to the Giants.
If not for Yovani Gallardo's injury, this almost surely would have been the left-hander's last start. Either way, he is the clear choice to be sent to the bullpen or demoted once Gallardo returns. Narveson's ERA on the season now sits at 6.02.
Tue Jun 22 201023:41Narveson overcomes rough start to beat Twins
Chris Narveson improved to 6-4 by holding the Twins to three runs over five innings on Tuesday night in a 7-5 Brewers victory.
Narveson ran into serious trouble in the first inning, when he allowed three runs to score without recording an out, but he escaped a bases-loaded jam without further damage and managed to cruise through the next four innings without incident. He remains a fantasy non-factor.
Fri Jun 11 201023:25Narveson has a career outing
Chris Narveson gave up just two earned runs over a career-high seven innings in a win over the Rangers on Friday night.
An impressive outing for Narveson, who baffled the Rangers with his big breaking ball. Still, he struck out just four while walking two and is still sporting a 5.46 ERA. We don't see much upside here.
Sat Jun 5 201019:55Narveson takes no-decision on Saturday
Chris Narveson yielded four runs over six innings as part of a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.
Narveson threw 33 pitches and gave up all four runs in the first, but was able to hold the Cardinals off the board from there. The southpaw walked five and struck out four in the no-decision. Narveson has 42 strikeouts over 44 innings as a starter this season, but he also has a 5.52 ERA. He's not to be trusted in fantasy leagues.
Mon May 31 201016:03Brewers' Narveson loses in in sixth
Chris Narveson took a loss after giving up five runs in 5 2/3 innings Monday versus the Marlins.
Narveson had a shutout going until the sixth, when the Marlins came up with a seven-run inning against him and Carlos Villaneuva. The last two of the five runs Narveson surrendered came after he was removed. Villanueva could have bailed him out of the jam, but he allowed a walk, an RBI single and a two-run triple before finally getting the third out of the frame.
Wed May 26 201023:34Narveson lasts just four innings vs. Astros
Chris Narveson surrendered four earned runs in just four innings of work in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.
Narveson threw 90 pitches in those four innings and struck out just two while yielding eight hits. His hold on a rotation spot could be slipping.
Sat May 15 201019:55Narveson takes loss vs. Phillies
Chris Narveson yielded four runs over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies on Saturday afternoon.
Narveson reached a season-high with nine strikeouts, but gave up nine hits, including a two-run homer to Shane Victorino in the top of the sixth. He needed an obscene 130 pitches just to get through 5 1/3. He was actually pretty decent over his first three starts in the rotation, but it's no surprise to see him struggle against a potent lineup like the Phillies. We have no idea how much longer he'll last in the rotation, but he'll have a much safer matchup against the Pirates next week.
Sun May 9 201019:30Brewers' Narveson strikes out eight in win
Chris Narveson held the Diamondbacks to one run in 5 2/3 innings on Sunday to record a victory.
Narveson walked two batters and gave up just three hits while striking out an impressive eight. Narveson will stay in the rotation at least until he cools off, but we simply don't believe he's capable of sustained success. Even those in NL-only leagues will want to bench him when he faces the Phillies next time out.
Wed Apr 28 201017:59Brewers' Narveson mediocre versus Pirates
Making his first start in place of Jeff Suppan, Chris Narveson allowed three runs in five innings Wednesday against the Pirates.
Andy LaRoche and Andrew McCutchen hit back-to-back homers off him in the first. Narveson allowed 17 hits and seven walks in 10 innings out of the pen, so we're not sure what the Brewers are expecting from him as a starter. Manny Parra was the far more intriguing option to replace Suppan.
