Collin Cowgill smacked a walk-off solo homer over the left field fence to give the Angels a 2-1, 14-inning victory against the A's on Tuesday.
With two strikes, reliever Jeff Francis tossed an arrow-straight lazy fastball on the inner half of the plate which turned Cowgill's eyes into saucers. Cowgill got the bat head under it and blasted the ball over Yoenis Cespedes' head to end a game that lasted nearly five hours. The Angels close to within 2.5 games of the first-place A's. Riding a five-game winning streak, Los Angeles is closing the gap quickly.
